Loungewear for long haul flights

Sosocold · 13/01/2025 18:08

Hi Everyone,
I'm going on a long haul flight in march and looking for comfortable but stylish trousers (or matching set) to wear. Don't want to look scruffy if you know what I mean. I'm slightly longer legged than average so don't want any ankle swingers!
Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

I'm 5'9" and buy the tall sizes. I wear the black ones for work and have a green pair that goes very nicely with a smarter green jumper.

I meant to say they are indestructible

I have these in the 25 inch length (I'm short!), but they also do them in 27 inch. They're really comfortable, hold their shape, quick drying and wash well.

Might be worth seeing if they still have them on sale at anywhere like John Lewis though, as I bought a second pair half price just last week.

Yoga trousers from Asda have always worked for me

MiddleAgedDread · 13/01/2025 20:03

I can’t deal with the Uniglo website to find a link but I bought some plain black trousers for this reason and they are so comfy! A bit like a lighter shell sort of fabric with a cuff at the ankle. Drawcord in the waistband and pockets but no zips etc. they also dry really quickly when washed so I had them clean for the return flight. They were around £25.

Me and em travel tailoring is so comfy but just looks so nice and the quality is excellent. Lots of pieces in the sale right now. They also cater for the longer leg. I have to buy the cropped which are regular length for me!

My genius friend also suggested to me the trousers that are elasticated at the bottoms are great for travelling because when you go to the loo then material doesn't go on the gross floor. They sell this style too. Happy shopping!

I have the Asana pants. They are £££ but brilliant. I have long legs and bought the 32" leg length. They go up to 34".

I can recommend cuffed trousers for a long haul flight. The floor of the toilets will be gross and you don't want the bottom one your trousers trailing in that mess!

Chocolatey1234 · 16/01/2025 09:54

I would choose Ninepines all day everyday. They have different cuts and different leg lengths order your usual size. They are absolutely lovely to wear, so versatile as comfortable and smart yes they are expensive but so worth it and they do also have small pockets.

BringMeTea · 16/01/2025 09:58

Get cuffed not wide leg for a long flight. Toilet floors beyond grim and your trouserleg will be in peril.

waterproofed · 16/01/2025 10:48

Consider a midi or maxi dress - life changing for long haul. I suffer with swollen ankles after long flights and a combo of a maxi dress and flight socks, slip on shoes & noise cancelling earphones was a game changer when you’re facing down 12 hours in economy. I’ll find the thread with all the tips

FerretChops · 16/01/2025 10:58

Yep just adding to say always go cuffed and nothing remotely floaty or wide legged

I wore a scamp and dude tracksuit on my last long haul flight and it was warm, loose and comfortable

MissFritton65 · 16/01/2025 11:06

I totally agree with @waterproofed! I'm flying long haul on Saturday and will be wearing a maxi dress with flight socks, demin jacket and cashmere wrap. Comfortable, warm and practical on the plane and just put the jacket and wrap in my hand luggage when I arrive in the heat!

I'm flying long haul in April and will be wearing the same outfit. When I arrive, I will be suitably dressed for the climate as well, by simply removing my jacket and wrap.

I’m flying long haul next week and will wear my hush harem pants, t-shirt and a hooded cardigan I’ve just purchased from Charli. I put way too much thought and planning in to my travel outfit 😀

What do you do if you need to get searched at security? I've had a pat down before and can't imagine how they'd do it to someone wearing a maxi dress.

MissFritton65 · 16/01/2025 21:10

@CurlyhairedAssassin they tend to use hand held scanners if you set an alert off in security or a female security officer pats you down. No difference to being patted while wearing trousers.

RampantIvy · 16/01/2025 21:25

I got patted down in Orlando when wearing a maxi. It wasn't a problem.

Kdkdkfj · 16/01/2025 22:53

With a set make sure you still have layers. Usually freezing but have been on some hot flights.

Merrilydancing · 16/01/2025 22:57

I wore soft leggings with a leg pocket which was ideal for getting my ticket and passport out without having to rummage around.

Also as they are not baggy, I didn’t have to worry about them on the toilet floor.

Sosocold · 16/01/2025 23:27

Wow thank you so much everyone for your advice and recommendations! And definitely need cuffed vs wide leg as yes, toilet floors are grim!!! Will work my way through the links and let you know what I settle on! Thanks again
