Loungewear for long haul flights

Hi Everyone,
I'm going on a long haul flight in march and looking for comfortable but stylish trousers (or matching set) to wear. Don't want to look scruffy if you know what I mean. I'm slightly longer legged than average so don't want any ankle swingers!
Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

I can recommend cuffed trousers for a long haul flight. The floor of the toilets will be gross and you don't want the bottom one your trousers trailing in that mess!

Agree Sweaty Betty Gary Yoga Pants, not sure if still on sale on line. If not something similar.

I got these M&S cashmere joggers with the matching hoodies for Christmas. They are super comfy. Also available in wide leg. Not sure about leg length but there might be some mentions in the reviews…

I have these and they are brilliant especially when I had covid 2 years ago. I actually got the joggers for £34 in the sale. Notice the colours are very muted. Mine are shocking pink.

My long haul choice is for a midaxi length elasticated waist skirt. I got a cheap one just for travelling, it has a small flowery print so it hides any dropped food stains/creases, and is long enough to hide flight socks. T-shirt and hoodie on top and I've got a pair of trainers with zip up fastening so easy to get on and off in the confines of an aircraft seat.

I would choose Ninepines all day everyday. They have different cuts and different leg lengths order your usual size. They are absolutely lovely to wear, so versatile as comfortable and smart yes they are expensive but so worth it and they do also have small pockets.

They're really nice, am tempted to get some for our next trip. However the pendant in me is struggling to buy from a company that doesn't proof read its adverts and thinks discrete has the same meaning as discreet Grin

Erm, don't you mean pedant? Grin

They are a Swedish company BTW.

I wore Lululemon Align yoga pants on this trip out to Vietnam - very comfortable and looked quite smart - got in the sale …

Quick tip, if I may, from someone who has fallen victim to the key peril of cashmere before. It's prime fodder for moths! I once took a beautiful cashmere jumper out of its carefully-folded storage place in my wardrobe to find it full of holes. I had also put cloves in my wardrobe to keep them off, but this was insufficient. If you haven't already got them, do get some breathable but impermeable storage pouches for these which are available from Amazon fairly cheaply.

I now have those storage hang-up bags for wool coats and pouches for my wool and cashmere knitwear. Not risking the same thing happening again. 😪

I'm 5'9" and buy the tall sizes. I wear the black ones for work and have a green pair that goes very nicely with a smarter green jumper.

Thanks dizzy - I've just got myself a pair of these!

I've read around long-haul flight wear for ages and previously bought some Saint and Sofia cargo pants - overpriced it has to be said - which do the job tolerably well (and are cuffed around the bottom) but haven't worn particularly well. I also like the M&S cashmere loungewear and might invest in a set of this, too. The only real imperative for me is to wear natural fibres.

I bring a travel wash solution and wash my flight wear on arrival, leaving it time to dry before the return leg. Long-haul flights always leave me feeling grimier and my clothes limper and less fresh than any other form of travel!

Oh no, that’s a nasty surprise. I have a really good natural cedar spray that I spray on wood. Works very well so far!! 🤞

Consider a midi or maxi dress - life changing for long haul. I suffer with swollen ankles after long flights and a combo of a maxi dress and flight socks, slip on shoes & noise cancelling earphones was a game changer when you’re facing down 12 hours in economy. I’ll find the thread with all the tips

Hi did you find the tip thread would be interested in this thankyou

thepoowhispererswife · 17/01/2025 20:04

I’d suggest Varley for a matching set, especially the Doublesoft stuff. Expensive but excellent quality

Lndnmummy · 18/01/2025 08:28

I wear the 'buttery leggings' everyone has been raving about on here. Then I have a short sleeve top and one of those wrap cardi things. Will see if I can find the link. Then a maxi skirt in the handluggage so can change quickly before landing in hot weather.

I also always bring a shawl/wrap thing, nice as cover on the plane and also can be used to cover shoulders etc in places like dubai.

I do wear wide leg trousers on planes... but I tuck them into my socks quickly when I go to the loo!

InbetweenDreams · 18/01/2025 12:04

@waterproofed I would also be interested in seeing the thread you mentioned if you find it :)

I think it's this thread
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5019977-the-buttery-amazon-leggings?reply=133448343

But I've looked and the advert says inseam 26" which is useless for me as I'm 36" inseam. A whole 10 inches shorter is not going to be a good look.
I suggest all you tall people measure your inseam, as you may be tall in the body or tall in the legs.

The only place I can get trousers, jeans and leggings long enough is long tall Sally.

I too am going long haul soon and I would love some of these leggings.

Just wanted to post as I caught a thread on here a few days ago about the best buttery leggings out there that aren't extortionate. Lots of pos...

What do you do if you need to get searched at security? I've had a pat down before and can't imagine how they'd do it to someone wearing a maxi dress.

It's pretty much the same. They pat you down. It should be someone of the same sex doing it and you can ask for it to be done in private if you want.

Sosocold · 18/01/2025 13:13

Hi Everyone! Thanks again so much for all the recommendations. I went into an independent clothing store in my town today and got these with 20% off.
Smart navy joggers with black ribbon strip, they're not cuffed but also not loose at the bottom so no risk of toilet floor trailing! Thought they're bit smarter than your average jogger.
Then, an asymmetrical jumper which when on is super soft, roomy and snuggly. Almost like wearing a blanket but more flattering!
Plus I'll get other uses out of the jumper, will look good with jeans or leggings day to day.
Some great tips on here so really appreciate all your replies!!

Thank you for this thread! I’m flying long haul in Feb and hadn’t given any of this enough thought

Packetofcrispsplease · 19/01/2025 09:36

I wore some cotton jersey soft trousers with stretchy waist from NEXT .
They are tapered leg so didn’t end up on the floor of the plane loos ugh 🤪
I also wore a dark cotton short sleeve T-shirt a warm cardigan and slip on sneakers 👟
the 13 hour flight was comfortable on the way there but a wee bit warm ( on and off ) for my liking on the return flight.
I’d choose cotton jerseys / bamboo mix or even viscose for coolness and comfort .
i wouldn’t wear polyester mix
