What do you wear? What makes you feel put together? I am not into frazzled aesthetic and look for inspiration / ideas? I work from home, so usually cropped jeans and a nice jumper or t-shirt, with dainty jewellery.

I’m a dress person as feel easily put together! This time of year I have numerous sweater dresses which I wear with thick tights - lighter jersey versions for spring and autumn, linen or cotton in summer
I don’t find separates as easy as have to
think about it but usually jeggings, jeans or stretchy dark trousers with cashmere jumper in winter, blouses or jersey tops when warmer and t shirts in full summer
I’m 60 now and dress to flatter my body shape and colour palate and ignore what’s in or out at the moment

mdinbc · 23/12/2024 22:57

I'm a jeans and jumper person as well. As long as the sleeves stay pushed up for cooking and chores! I also wear t-shirt with zip hoodie, a more fitted one like lululemon similar. I'm actually on the lookout for a knit zip hoodie. I had one from Banana Republic that I ripped when I fell, and can't find a decent replacement.

Although I like dresses, I can't do tights for casual. They either dig in at the waist, roll down or sag. I also like to sit cross legged, so dresses don't work for me then!

blueshoes · 23/12/2024 23:01

No, I am minging at home. Always in the same black top and black cotton joggers.

I WFH. For Teams calls, I put on a jumper and some make up.

MidnightMeltdown · 23/12/2024 23:20

I don't know how people can stand to wear jeans at home. They're so uncomfortable! I wear them out of the house sometimes and want to change as soon as I get home. I usually wear comfy wide leg trousers in a jersey-type fabric when at home.

Cavalierchaos · 23/12/2024 23:27

I can't understand why anyone would get dressed up to 'look good' at home. I always wear lounge wear (clean ofc).

Beesandhoney123 · 23/12/2024 23:29

Jeans or silky cargos, silk vest top with a nice fitted jumper. Clean trainers.
We have pets so always ready for a dog walk, last min mtg or call.

I'd feel a bit weird at home in a dress and boots indoors. Certainly couldn't wirk in dress and slippers:) not a good look or feel even if it's only me seeing it.

Magpie50 · 23/12/2024 23:35

I'm generally in a dress and thick tights or skirt and jumper. Usually have make up done.
My style is quite retro though so it's lots of cord and Joanie dresses.

Not a big fan if that whole athleisure look but TBH I never go anywhere to dress up....I do it coz I like it!

ALittleHumptyDumpty · 24/12/2024 00:01

Make the effort for who?

Yourself? Colleagues if WFH? Spouse/partner?

I only lounge around in comfortable clothes. Even rarely put a bra on unless I'm going out.

I must be the biggest slob in the world. My poor husband 😂

I love the honesty. Me too! If I have a last minute meeting scheduled I panic and race to put some make up on otherwise I look like I’ve just been dug up. Wfh is always leggings with a comfy jumper or hoodie. I have one that the cat sits in the pouch at the front which is nice when I’m wfh as she pops up to say hello every now and again and the purring is soothing. It has bleach marks and all sorts on it. So comfy and warm.

Saurus72 · 24/12/2024 01:06

@FeliznaviDogs Super jealous that your cat would do that - mine loves a cuddle but only when he decides and will never be picked up!

I always wear make up when wfh - it’s something I need to feel better on draining teams calls, especially cream blusher that I top up during the day. When I leave the house I’m usually wearing a dress and boots/sandals but in winter at home I need warmth. So I wear White Company joggers which make me feel put together and are so soft, a cashmere jumper and usually big thick wool socks. Smart enough for work calls but also cosy.

dudsville · 24/12/2024 06:01

I changed my clothes choices a number of years back. I now have one wardrobe, everything is comfortable, everything can be worn at home, whether it's a sofa day or wfh, or out at dinner or work. I didn't realise how happy this would make me. It's a silly thing to feel proud of, but it gives my self esteem a little boost!

I make an effort for myself aren’t I worth it?
I don’t dress up, but everything I wear is clean, pressed, in good condition, fits me nicely and flatters my body shape.
If you don’t care about yourself you give the impression you are not worth it.

Floisme · 24/12/2024 07:51

I just wear clothes I like. Admittedly my
at-home clothes are often either older or cheaper versions of what I wear when I'm out. Or sometimes, if it's a different look and I'm not quite sure it's for me, I'll wear it at home while I decide.

All my clothes are comfortable - I wouldn't buy them if they weren't

I'm not making an effort - I enjoy it.

Thursdaygirl · 24/12/2024 08:12

I can’t wear jeans round the house either, but M&S do some really soft bootleg trousers, very stretchy and I have a few pairs of these. Comfy enough for lounging, fine for WFH, but smart enough to nip to the shops etc.
I always wear make up, I look horrendous without it, and it makes me feel like ‘me’

You pretty much described me lol it's just me and kids at home though. Am just comfier in pyjamas and my housecoat and this time of year it's cosier too. I try to look nice for the postman if I have to see him lol

Laiste · 24/12/2024 22:03

I'm glam all the time i'm afraid. Everyday, come what may, i will dress nicely do my hair and put my face on. I even managed to get upstairs while in labour and put a bit of lippy on before going into hospital each time. (four).

I've been the same since my late teens. Waiting for the day when i get up and think 'fuck it, can't be bothered any more', but 30 years on it hasn't come yet ....

Ivymedication · 26/12/2024 13:19

I'm physically disabled and have a disabled child so I've been at home for quite a number of years now.
I try to make an effort everyday so I know that I haven't given up.

I (controversially for MN) dress to shoes everyday, it's an old flylady thing that makes you feel more ready for "work" and less likely to go back to bed. So for me it keeps me in a better mood and not spiraling.

I've taken to wearing the co-ords that I'm not quite sure are particularly "in" anymore but they are comfy yet done. I have a leopard print one on today, with a black cashmere cardigan, IM boots and lots of gold jewellery. Makeup on and hair (badly) done.

I need this, I am still me, not just a disability and a carer and a drudge.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 26/12/2024 13:45

I always get dressed as though I'm going somewhere (so jeans and a jumper) and I always do my make up and hair in the morning. I do get random teams calls during the day some days and I'll occasionally pop out for something at lunchtime.

if I don't plan to go anywhere and I'm not working, I'll put leggings on but I'm still dressed well enough to pop out. At weekends if I've got back from the gym and showered I put on joggers and a t-shirt as I'm not leaving the house after that.

Today I'm in jeans and a jumper with minimal make up.

I once said to a friend if I don't wear make up and I'm not dressed then I'm ill. We've always got dressed in my family though, never really understood 'comfies' as my clothes are comfortable.

LoraPiano · 26/12/2024 13:49

I am surprised people find jeans uncomfortable!

My (French) mother wears a blouse/shirt, a cardigan, and straight trousers normally. Sometimes jeans. Simple jewelery. Or a long wool skirt instead of the trousers. I have never seen her in lougewear.

I wear jeans and jumpers, or athleisure (lululemon trousers and their "Define" jacket. A fleece on top if it feels cold)

ALittleHumptyDumpty · 29/12/2024 12:59

@Fairyliz
I agree that you should dress for yourself, self-respect and all that. But that's kinda why I dress the way I do when at home, to be comfortable and at ease without wearing makeup etc.
But yes there's a line where it turns to minging, which I think is where I'm at 😬😳

namethisbird · 29/12/2024 13:08

I always style my hair, apply make up and perfume regardless of what my plans are. I wear lots of cashmere when lounging at home as it is super soft And comfortable yet smart enough if I need to pop out anywhere. I will either wear a cashmere loungewear set or a cashmere cardigan or jumper with wide legged or skinny trousers.

TooMuchDontCare · 29/12/2024 13:16

I dress beautifully whenever I leave the house & i am atrocious when I'm at home!

I could not contemplate wearing my cashmere to lie on the sofa with the cat all over me.

Or my me+em trousers to cook the dinner or clean the toilet...

So i wear awful old joggers or mismatched pj's

It is in fact my main focus S&B wise in 2025 to up my lounge wear game. Throw out everything I currently have & build a collection that doesn't make me look so dreadful

I battle with it though as I resent spending that money on loungewear when I could buy a beautiful blouse in ba&sh or sezane etc

BaubleMania · 29/12/2024 13:22

I'm lurking around at home today (first day out of bed for three days after extremely unfortuitous Christmas norovirus), so I'm wearing as close to lounge wear as I'll ever get, cashmere flared trousers, cashmere polo-neck, cashmere socks. Have had a bath, washed my hair, tinted moisturiser, mascara and tinted lip gloss. Scent & body lotion.

I feel like a (slightly bruised) new woman!

Generally though, if I'm not going out I'll wear a slightly dressed down version of my regular clothes, it could be anything.

No joggers though, never joggers (or hoodies).

Supersimkin7 · 29/12/2024 13:50

I know myself. So my secret is not to own anything really awful looking but oh so temptingly comfortable.

I chuck knackered tees, leggings, nighties and pants twice a year.

Instant smart - midi dresses. Elasticated waist or oversized are very comfy for duvet days, avoid anything zipped like the plague. Shoes by front door for sliding into while opening it for bloody festive callers.

Rina66 · 29/12/2024 16:42

Knitted loungewear in winter and
Cotton t shirt version in summer
