If you make the effort to look good at home…

What do you wear? What makes you feel put together? I am not into frazzled aesthetic and look for inspiration / ideas? I work from home, so usually cropped jeans and a nice jumper or t-shirt, with dainty jewellery.

Do your families make negative comments when you make an effort? I'd never get over the ribbing if I tried half the ideas here.

DazedAndConfused321 · 29/12/2024 17:02

My capsules wardrobe extends to my home clothes too. Everything matches, nothing bobbly or stained or with fading patterns or graphics on. Good quality basics that last. I also have a few outfits I know work. So if I have a last minute event to attend or have to leave the house suddenly I can grab the items I need, the shoes that go with them etc.

Even when it's evening or Sunday morning I don't wear grubby pyjamas, if I want something comfy that only my family will see me in I wear matching co-ords or matching loungewear.

Princessfluffy · 29/12/2024 17:28

I don't buy any jeans that are uncomfortable, mine are some of my most comfortable clothing. I like jeans with zero Elastane content. Stretch jeans I find quite unpleasant to wear, too clingy and sweaty.

23W · 29/12/2024 18:13

@Supersimkin7 I am exactly the same. Chucked out two pairs of bobbly Primark joggers because my hand just always goes for them like I have no choice, despite having invested in comfy soft cropped jeans and cashmere sweaters. Those monsters are my kryptonite. I have kept one pair for when life gets too much.

I try to wear matching sets of cashmere or cashmere mix joggers/tops if at home. Or alternatively I love muslin pjs ( on a Sunday) topped off with a long cashmere cardigan. I have 4 children( albeit grown up now) & a spaniel but I still always wear my cashmere at home. There's no point keeping it for best. I couldn't bear changing several times a day to go out or for a dog walk. I always put on some minimal make up - foundation, Clinique Chubby Sticks lips & cheeks & perfume.
Absolutely no bra though unless I'm going out - comfort rules.

FlyingHighintheSkyy · 29/12/2024 19:44

I look like a hot mess at home. Hair scraped back, leggings, no bra, baggy t shirt and glasses! 🤓 Odd socks and no one has seen me looking so rough as the Amazon delivery drivers or the post man 🤣

blueshoes · 30/12/2024 20:03

What's the fun if you look presentable all the time.

I know I scrub up well when I register the faces of shock and surprise on my dh and teen dcs when I unveil my Teams-call ready face and upper half in the middle of the day.

Bearwithachoreshed876 · 30/12/2024 20:12

Place marking as such an interesting thread!

I find myself changing clothes a lot during the day and it’s a pain!

I always get up and dress to shoes as I have daily dog-walking to do usually x 3 a day. So jeans, shirt and a jumper.

I hate sitting around in jeans though in the evenings so usually wear flared yoga joggers and a poncho for that.

mdinbc · 30/12/2024 23:30

Greyscaly, why on earth would they make negative comments when you look nice! That's sad, in my opinion.

Magpie50 · 31/12/2024 01:52

Bearwith, I know what you mean about constantly changing clothes!
I always chuck on leggings and a sweatshirt first thing to walk the dogs, then it's gym gear followed by everyday clothes (another change to gym clothes later on and back).
Then it's evening pajamas (a comfy lounge set) followed by bedtime pajamas!

I try to dress up abit but stay comfy though.
This time of year I'm usually in fleece tights/leggings and a long sleeve top. Then I layer a nice dress or skirt and jumper combo over the top.
Add simple make up and hair done and I just feel happier in myself.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 31/12/2024 04:35

For me, even when I'm home alone with no zoom calls booked and wearing trackies or pjs all day I need a bit of brown eyeliner plus red lipstick. So when I glance in a mirror I look like a person with features and not a potato.

beachcitygirl · 31/12/2024 05:13

I have lovely black M&S leisure wear that I can dress up or down but is extremely comfy.
Zoom - add a bra & Lipstick
Someone popping round add jewellery and above.
Jobs a good un

I have 4 clothing modes:

  1. gym wear. This is what I wear most of the time as I go to the gym most days, sometimes not until the evening.
  2. outside clothes. Jeans and top in various smartness levels depending on shopping/ errands or meal out. Usually on non gym days.
  3. lounging clothes. I love these and wear these most of the time after the gym or when I'm not going out. Soft black lacy vest, black crop top bra and black soft straight trousers. I wear a warm hoodie/ cardigan if I'm cold.
  4. oodie nightie for bed

I wfh but not really on camera. I wear a little bit of natural makeup and always have my hair in a bouncy blow dry.

MadamDicey · 31/12/2024 06:27

The mintue I get home the bra is off the jammies are on, regardless of time and I stay that way untill work the next day
Days off if im staying in I shower and put clean jammies on .
I'm sure i have more pj's than outdoor clothes .

rockstarshoes · 31/12/2024 15:27

I have the odd attempt to look decent at home & then just end up spilling my tea down myself, catching my sleeve with a cleaning a product or some other freak accident that ruins a decent item of clothing!

I do wear clean leggings & a clean sweatshirt or T shirt & cardy though! My new favourite is a Coord track suit thing so I'm not afraid to answer the door or anything!

23W · 31/12/2024 17:42

@rockstarshoes I have lost a few thing to a bleach stain 🥺 where do you get your cords?

I can't confess to always looking glam, but I do like to look reasonably put together, even if staying at home.

Comfort is key though! So I'm normally in gym wear, or decent leggings/joggers with t shirts and longline cardigans or a jumper.

I have good quality stud earrings, bracelets and necklaces that I sleep in, shower in... basically wear constantly and swap them around a bit every so often so I always feel put together jewellery wise with no effort.

I get a Brazilian Blow Dry every six months for my hair so it looks decent even roughly dried and if it's up I wear it in a claw clip rather than just tied up with a hair bobble as I feel it looks more purposeful.

Body lotion after every shower or bath, without fail and a 60 second quick shower before bed every night (longer when washing my hair or shaving obviously).

I use nail wraps from Lily and Fox which take me 15 minutes once a week at the weekend and then look good all week. Or if I don't have them on nails are clean and a bit of cuticle oil applied. I keep that next to wear I sit on the sofa so I can do it when watching TV in the evening.

I wear perfume every day, even if not leaving the house plus a tinted moisturiser, lip balm and mascara.

The above really helps me feel that even if I'm just in joggers and a t shirt I can leave the house at a moment's notice and will be clean and reasonably presentable.

Bearwith, I know what you mean about constantly changing clothes!

Same here! I have finally found M&S jersey bootleg trousers, which are comfy enough for lounging/WFH, but smart enough to nip to the shops/vet/lunchtime walk etc

Yes those sort of trousers are the holy grail!

I just need some straight or slimmed legged ones now that go easily in to boots for winter dog walks and then can take me right through the day!

noobiedoobie · 02/01/2025 00:33

I like the compression feeling of tight clothes so I wear skinny jeans with stretch a lot of the time. I always feel better if I've put on a smarter top. I wear slippers around the house. Should probably invest in better indoor shoes.

rockstarshoes · 03/01/2025 17:55

My Co ordes were from Sainsbury!

Black with a white & glitter side stripe which would be totally naff outdoors but are quite nice indoors & very soft & warm!

I wear jewellery all the time too, sleep in it shower in it!
