So disappointed :(

Got my hair done for the first time in 5 years. She couldn't get the red to stick so I now have some shitty done highlights.

So disappointed, looks no different to my current hair.

Your natural red is absolutely gorgeous. I would get a deep conditioner because the highlights have damaged your hair a little, use it weekly and get a trim from a different hairdresser.

FoolishHips · 23/12/2024 17:34

I don't understand why she couldn't get the red colour to stick. Your hair is already red so why wouldn't she just do a balayage?

It's supposed to be a balayage!

The photos of your hair in the first post look dry and split- have they done this with bleaching?
Be careful what you do next

My hair was always a little dry but not as bad as it looks now

Get a red semi permanent box dye and put it over the top. The colour molecules are larger in a semi than in permanent colour so it’ll help it stick and be less damaging. The picture of what you wanted would have involved bleaching your hair very light then various shades of red to get the fade into the ends like that. I doubt many hairdressers have the skill to do that level of colour work sadly. She clearly had no clue how to achieve that look.

StormingNorman · 23/12/2024 17:50

In its own way it’s quite impressive she managed to take red OUT of your hair 😬

Could you try a shampoo that deposits red into your hair? I think John Frieda and Aveda both do one.

A strong moisturising or bonding treatment should help put some shine back .

Mawface · 23/12/2024 17:51

Thank you to everyone for the compliments & advice. Honestly wish i hadnt even bothered. I'm going to look into getting a copper toner and see how it goes. Defo won't be going back & the girl who done it has worked there for over 10 years & the salon has all 5 star reviews. It looks a bit better now I've curled it but no where near what I wanted.

Aubruny red, haven't dyed it in 5 years so this is basically my natural colour.

Your natural colour is far nicer than the hair in picture one.

I know!! That's what has annoyed me the most as it's now a really light brownish colour where as mine was auburn to start with 😂 the blonde I can deal with.

Agree it looks like a green tinge to it .
Ask for a refund , and go elsewhere .

ginasevern · 23/12/2024 17:53

OP, your natural hair is stunning. People would kill for that colour. Why would you want to dye it?

MerryLiftMass · 23/12/2024 17:53

I feel your pain OP, I left the salon yesterday and had to go and get some toner to fix my hair. I would have complained but I really like getting other treatments there and didn’t want it to be awkward in future.

Your orginal hair colour is absolutely gorgeous I could cry for you that they have butchered it.

good luck with the copper toner.

Was heavily bullied my whole childhood for it!

I’m not sure the why would you want to change your gorgeous natural colour comments are very helpful to the OP.

Everyone gets bored with their hair now and again no matter how fabulous it looks

NippyCrab · 23/12/2024 18:02

@Mawface please don't buy anything to use yourself, get a refund if you can but go to a salon who can help. X

Waterboatlass · 23/12/2024 18:03

Your natural hair is just beautiful!! I don't know much about red hair but I'd put a deep conditioner on, a good one like kerastase, and maybe some oil, and see what another hairdresser says about colour. It may look better when less dry. I'd be be tempted to go back that lovely deep red

Wonderi · 23/12/2024 18:21

Your natural hair is beautiful 🥰

I like the new hair but it’s nothing like the picture that you wanted.

I would wait until your next appointment and then see what it’s like and if it’s still nothing like that first photo then I’d ask for a refund.

I agree that it looks very dry and I’m not a hairdresser but I’m wondering if she left the dye on too long or something.
I would definitely get some oil or moisturing hair mask for it.

I'm a redhead so I do know something about it but honestly, listen to everyone on this thread. Auburn is a prized hair colour and also pretty rare. I'm sure no-one is bullying you now and if they are, it is only jealousy. Please don't mess with your beautiful hair, it's almost a crime.

SnakesandKnives · 23/12/2024 18:36

Jealous of your natural hair colour like everyone else!

must admit the pic of what you wanted does look cool. It also looks a bit photoshopped possibly?

PleaseStopEatingMyStuff · 23/12/2024 18:39

Ignore the bullies of the past. They must have been incredibly jealous of your natural hair (as am I!) I'd condition it lots and maybe ask another hairdresser how to try to get your natural colour back.
And get a refund.
And never dye it again.

MsXmasGGMasterTwat · 23/12/2024 18:40

Your natural colour is beautiful OP.

I’d ask another, experienced with colour hairdresser what to do tbh.

Ah op as a fellow ginge I can relate but honestly red hair is so desirable once you reach adulthood! It's such a shame we're made to feel its something ugly. I know women who are desperate to achieve that colour through dye. It's absolutely beautiful! I'm so sorry they've botched it.
