Should I buy a hairband?

My peak hairband wearing days were in the late 80s / early 90s when I was 6-10 years old. I have seen their resurgence in the last few years and they seem to be here to stay for a bit, but I'm now 42. Should I go for it and relive the joy of 7 year old me or should I accept that some things belong on 7 year olds and hairbands are definitely one of them?

Photo attached of the vibe I'd be aiming for (albeit less pissed off looking)

Should I buy a hairband?

I feel like those huge ones are for the youngsters TBH. I don't think I'd go there at my age!
Although I do have a couple of very thin hairbands, they are hardly noticeable.

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/12/2024 20:09

I have a skirt like that. I'm going to dig it out. Thanks @ThreeTescoBags .

Get the hairband. You know you want to and it is Christmas.

QueSyrahSyrah · 05/12/2024 20:10

Even the sight of those thick hair bands makes the back of my ears hurt.

timetoreset · 05/12/2024 20:12

I can't ever like hair bands. They just look naff on me. Not my vibe I must admit

Oh god, I'd forgotten about that in the last 30 odd years!

I didn't use to but I've bought a couple of more chunky ones and I don't look like the lady of the manor, even if I sound like one.

pictoosh · 05/12/2024 20:20

I have never seen the appeal of these. I've used a thin invisible one or a scarf to hold my hair back but never those thick padded bands. I think they look odd on adult women. They belong on a nine year old.

Having said that, taste is completely down to the individual. If you like it, buy it, wear it, enjoy it.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 05/12/2024 20:38

Yes of course you can wear a hairband. I like them. I think they look fine on most women. Regardless of age.

You see, of all the replies quite sensibly suggesting I should maybe step away from the hairbands, this is the one I keep coming back to. I do know I want to and it is Christmas 😂

Well there you go. You have your answer. Grin

stripeyshutters · 05/12/2024 22:52

They are a bit " Gussie and Clarissa" 😂

The other replies weren't sensible. Buy one, wear it.

The one pictured isn't really doing a "job" it's plonked on her head in a weird way , I don't understand that style ( might just be me) & it doesn't make me think I'm missing out by not having one. I think some ppl really suit "head wear"' and some really don't . I think you might look wonderful in one but you need to try a few styles to find "yours"'

Stormyweatheroutthere · 06/12/2024 00:16

I actually had a thick black one in today.. After my trendy teen told me when I turned 50 I can wear whatever I wanted.. I am 53 and happy with her comment!

Monty27 · 06/12/2024 03:03

You know you want to

pizzapizzadaddio · 06/12/2024 04:15

I love the more grown up Anthropologie ones

Neilsfavouritechilli · 06/12/2024 04:26

I have a green velvet one I wear with pride (plus it makes me feel like a Tudor princess)

Jostuki · 06/12/2024 04:34

My sister and I wear them sometimes but not hard ones that hurt the back of your the ears!

Soft black bands are easy to wear like the 'combed over' one in this article or a square handkerchief scarf tied around the head keeping the hair away from the face.

I have hair thick enough to tow a cruise ship, any hair band will be purely decorative, it's the trendy plonk I'm going for 😆

Unsurprisingly, I have indeed ordered a headband (or two, I'm considering a third). I may report back, then we can all consider the relative folly of my actions.

Thank you to all the enablers on this thread!

It's a curse! Anything shorter than mid back length and it sticks out like a mushroom

I love the Powder headbands like this.

I have short white hair and I think they look good, especially on a bad hair day.
I favour a rather eclectic style though!

OP That tartan headband looks great.

EarthyMamma · 06/12/2024 09:48

Oops Powder, this style.

LigamentBandy · 06/12/2024 09:54

@ThreeTescoBags
