Can I wear the same dress three times?

Works Xmas do coming up, and I can't find anything I want to wear. 2 vinted fails and 2 new purchase fails. I'm fed up of looking and to be honest I don't really want to part with my money for one night.

So, would I be unreasonable to wear the same dress as I wore to the Xmas do in 2021 and 2022 (I didn't go last year).

No one will remember or care, will they?

I don't have anything else suitable and I'm feeling a bit rubbish about myself (peri meno belly)

I'm at the point of not wanting to go, but it will be frowned upon after I've already said I would.

No one will remember, notice or care, go for it!

twohotwaterbottles · 03/12/2024 17:22

No one will remember. Save yourself and wear the same thing you're happy in. Have a lovely time OP ☺️🌲

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 03/12/2024 17:22

@Fuckitydoodah , I doubt anyone will notice and if they do so what? Have fun!

SausageRoll2020 · 03/12/2024 17:23

I'm trying to remember what any of my colleagues wore at past Christmas parties and I can't. I doubt anyone will notice (unless it's something completely outlandish) and if they do notice, it's highly unlikely they'll care 🤷🏼‍♀️

If it suits you, fits you and makes you feel confident then just wear it.

Changingplace · 03/12/2024 17:24

Do it nobody will remember! I couldn’t even tell you what I wore myself to my Christmas do last year let alone what anyone else wore:)

OldTinHat · 03/12/2024 17:25

And here I am stressing over sending out the same Christmas cards as I did last year as I have enough left in the box, and I don't want to buy any more!

Sadly, OP, no one will notice. And it's a bit disappointing and also a huge relief that they don't. Wear your frock with style!

dudsville · 03/12/2024 17:27

Wear the dress! Even if anyone did notice, who cares? What would they think, and would that bother you? For instance, say they thought you couldn't afford a new dress, would that align with your own values?

MurdoMunro · 03/12/2024 17:33

Oh hell yeah. Wear the dress. I also have had a think about my colleagues, I can only bring into my mind’s eye one time I noticed a re-presentation of a frock. But that’s because Joan has this phenomenal deep, lustrous, teal blue dress that wraps around her front and flows out at the back. I remember because I love that dress on her and wish I had something so perfect for myself

ImNotThereAmI · 03/12/2024 17:51

I doubt anyone would notice. But, if I did notice that someone was wearing the same dress as last year, I’d inwardly think that it was a really good thing to do rather than continuing to buy a dress each year that only gets worn once. So I would salute you for doing so!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 03/12/2024 17:55

Of course you can. I spend vast amounts of money on clothes but deplore the idea that you can't wear the same thing twice.

I can't remember what I wore last year. It 100% wouldn't have been bought new for the office do.

WWLD · 03/12/2024 17:55

If they notice at all (which I doubt) they'll only be jealous you can fit into something from 3 years ago! Or, I would, anyway - similar perimeno issues here.

Comedycook · 03/12/2024 17:56

Pick a random colleague...do you remember what they wore last year?

minipie · 03/12/2024 17:57

Far better to wear something that suits you and you feel happy in, than to wear something less good just because it’s new.

BraveBlueDuck · 03/12/2024 17:58

I have a New Years going out-out top I've work every New years eve since 2017. It's the only opportunity I get to wear something that's obscenely glittery plus it gives me 365 days to clean up the glitter in-between wears.

In my experience people have either been too drunk or too polite to say anything or just haven't noticed.

Wear the dress!

mitogoshigg · 03/12/2024 17:59

No one will notice, I can't remember what I wore in 2022!

Daisy62 · 03/12/2024 18:00

I did that at my husband’s work do for years. It was a fab dress. Also had same convo with same people every year.

MurdoMunro · 03/12/2024 18:02

mitogoshigg · 03/12/2024 17:59

No one will notice, I can't remember what I wore in 2022!

That’s a bloody good point. Neither can I.

SemmaLina · 03/12/2024 18:03

Wear it
Do you remember what anyone wore ?
Exactly

Havalona · 03/12/2024 18:05

I can assure you that everyone there will be mostly looking at themselves.

Undethetree · 03/12/2024 18:05

At my work Xmas do this year two of us wore the same outfits as last year. Noone noticed and we only realised because she told me she was wearing the same dress and I then said so am I....noone cares!!! Except the planet - the another wants you to wear the same dress as many times as you can.

Undethetree · 03/12/2024 18:06

*the planet (not the another)

crowgift · 03/12/2024 18:09

yes it's fine to do this - people are focused on what they are wearing, not you: I have one really good flattering dress, I have other clothes which are not as flattering or as comfortable. I wear the good dress.

ReignOfError · 03/12/2024 18:09

I wore the same outfit to both my sons’ weddings (different accessories) and nobody even noticed that, so I’m sure they won’t recall what you wore to a works do.

As others have said, the planet will thank
you.

purplecorkheart · 03/12/2024 18:12

No one will notice. And even if they do they will not care. Aren't we being encouraged to use what we have than buying something new that we might only wear once or twice a year anyway. Enjoy the night.

Georgyporky · 03/12/2024 18:22

I bet all the blokes will be wearing the same suits from 2021 - probably the same underwear as well.
