Preowned 'never worn' or 'worn once'. Really????

Am I cynical that when I see something on Vestiaire or Vinted etc and it's described as 'only worn once' or 'never worn' then it's a big fat porky pie?

How often are things really worn once before someone decides to get rid of it? ONCE??? Not 4 times? Not half a season? Just the once?

It immediately makes me not want to buy the thing

I have a beautiful cobalt blue Reiss coat that I couldn't understand why it was being sold as worn once. When it came I understood as the sleeves were just weird when you were wearing it and came unbuttoned/ flapped around after 10 minutes and were so annoying - but looked great in front of the mirror. However an hours work, some unpicking and resewing and the offending bits went.
Equally I've bought things like a lovely sequin blazer, looks amazing, after 5 minutes I have to take it off as I can't wear the sequins at my wrist and neck

notatinydancer · 27/11/2024 10:34

I only put things on Vinted I've worn once or not worn.

RaininSummer · 27/11/2024 10:42

I have done this. Purchased a mistake and kept it thinking I would lose weight or worn a dress for a wedding once. Shoes which hurt my feet too. I have purchased boots twice from vinted lungworm with their tags still.

isitsnowingyett · 27/11/2024 10:57

I only sell, never buy clothing from E bay. Hate the look of vinted. I have currently at least 3 items I bought in summer sales that I will put on next year. All have the tags still on - thought one looked great in the shop 😬 and one bought without trying on - massive.

I sell on Vinted and I’m absolutely truthful if I say something like that. I can’t help but be honest and the last thing I want is negative feedback if I’ve misled re the condition.

It annoys me when someone lists in the category ‘new without tags’ and then says in the description the item has actually been worn a couple of times. Surely that’s what ‘very good’ is for.

I'm the same and won't risk my Vinted feedback score putting 'very good ' even if I'm nitpicking about a couple of bobbles!

I saw an item yesterday listed as 'new with tags' but in the description she said worn once. I guess she'd just happened to keep the tag and thought it might get more clicks if listed as new 🤔

On the whole I haven't had an issue with Vinted. Have had loads of new or barely worn bargains myself - am amazed that people have enough money to buy things they never wear or have literally only worn once or twice to work/an event!!

Mill3nnial · 27/11/2024 11:07

I agree with you

lots of people list items as "new without tags" on Vinted and then mention "worn once" in description

drives me mad

MidnightMeltdown · 27/11/2024 11:20

I think that mistake purchases are quite common, particularly among younger people.

I used to do it sometimes in my 20s. I would buy something because I liked it, and then realise that the colour or shape didn't suit me. I do it a lot less now that I'm older and have learned what works for me and what doesn't.

Pumpkincozynights · 27/11/2024 12:07

This reminds me I have two pairs of high heeled shoes.
One never worn- feet ok in the shop, crippled me when I got home.
Second pair worn once but too big so could barely keep them on.
Might have to sell them on vinted.

Pumpkincozynights · 27/11/2024 12:10

Oh and anything listed as new without tags. I regard as in the very good category and would not pay more for it than anything listed as very good.

PrincessofWells · 27/11/2024 12:56

downwindofyou · 27/11/2024 08:44

But often it's not a special occasion garment. It's something incredibly classic. Like a blazer or classic winter coat. Why would anyone wear a classic winter coat once then think nah. I don't like it

Because you put on weight, lose weight, can't fit a sweater underneath, going through the menopause and it's too warm, arms are too tight. Then there's aspirational buying, you love the coat but your lifestyle is really wellies and jeans so you never get to wear it!

All mistakes I've made 😂

Littlemiracles232504 · 27/11/2024 13:00

I can understand Christmas outfits/halloween etc for my kiddos, like special outfits they usually wear for 1 day and then it's back into pjs or onesies for the foreseeable

I hate it when I filter the search for new items and when I click on it says only worn once. It's not new then is it! Particularly shoes where they are dirty and scuffed..doesn't matter if you only wore them once!

Wendolino · 27/11/2024 13:07

I bought a dress from Vinted, BN without tags, never worn. It stank of sweat. It was either tried on by an all-in wrestler or she lied.

Littlemiracles232504 · 27/11/2024 13:09

@Wendolino ohh god 😂😂😂
I bought my little girl a pair of dolly shoes "excellent condition" they had half a Jaffa cake inside 😂

Swag81 · 27/11/2024 13:10

I've recently made £400 selling BNWT or worn once things on Vinted. I could have made more but anything I felt was under a certain value I put in the charity bin. I don't have time to go to the post office every time someone buys a £3 top from me.

I think you can also tell from the seller's reviews if they are likely to be telling porkies. I've been selling for years and I have consistent positive feedback on my sales. If I were flogging well worn clothes, passing them off as almost new, then the feedback would reflect that.

Also, you can tell a lot from decent photos. I do plenty of close ups so that you can see that the fabric hasn't been through the washing machine 100 times or the rear is seated and all the things that show an item has been well worn.

I don't doubt things described as worn once are in good condition. I'm not suggesting they are all worn out and washed a dozen times. I'm questioning the frequency of things described as 'worn once' when in all likelihood they've been worn several times.

Earlier this year, I did a wardrobe overhaul and took four bin bags to the charity collection bin. I was horrified at how much stuff I had with the labels still on, never worn.

biedrona · 27/11/2024 13:52

My pet peeve is when something is clearly worn, even stated in the description as I only worn it once but overall is brand new without tags.

downwindofyou · 27/11/2024 13:56

healthybychristmas · 27/11/2024 09:53

What I want to know is why so few people iron the item before taking a photo for Vinted.

Totally!!!
When they are listed as never worn but they are all crumpled you have to wonder if they shove their new clothes in the corner of their room screwed up in a heap.

My in-laws used to "gift" me shitty clothes not my style. Either too big a size or odd size. I have given those clothes to charity more than once as I just couldn't keep them

Haha guilty as charged. It’s cos I wait till I have a massive pile to upload and it’s usually been in a bag under the bed waiting for me to do it. I just cba to iron it all 🤦‍♀️

lawlessland · 27/11/2024 14:08

I've sold loads of stuff without labels but never worn or only once.

I have been burned by other people claiming new for heavily used items so I price lower than the items should go for really.

I do try and keep labels on until I'm definitely sure I'm going to wear it and like it but obviously I don't always.

I might wear something out and realize it's uncomfortable or looks bad.

BeatrixPottery24 · 27/11/2024 14:14

Oh God loads!! The amount of times I try something on come to wear it takes the labels out and thinks nah once it's on! I've got something for sale presently on vinted that's never even left the house had on 10 minutes max before deciding nope!
