Can we talk about modestly priced handbags please?

Tenminutesegment753 · 25/11/2024 10:41

I am not in the market for a £250 plus handbag. Even if I could afford it, I would prefer not to spend that.

In fact, my ideal price would be £150 and under. A while ago, I used to be able to buy a plain, unbranded, classic handbag in leather for that price. But now they are so far to find!

I ordered two handbags from Mango recently because I loved the design. But on closer inspection, they are very obviously “plastic” looking.

The other option is Vinted I suppose, but don’t ask me why, I prefer to buy new for something as intimate as a handbag.

Are there any other options please? Factory sales etc?

Have you looked in TKMaxx. They generally have plenty of handbags and new styles coming in all the time.

I've had some lovely Italian leather bags from there, usually around the £30/40 mark.

Bear in mind that they only put some of their stock online so you are much better going into a store.

Mairzydotes · 25/11/2024 11:44

Rowallan , marks and sparks , outlet places like Boundary .

I second TKMaxx in person - the one near me has so many options at various price points/brands/styles. I'm always blown away with what I can get there vs buying in John Lewis etc.

Mimi Berry bags are excellent quality. Depending on the size you’re looking for they may be too expensive at the moment but the end of year sales are good and I think you’ll be able to find options within your budget. I’m waiting for the sale to buy a bag I have my eye on!

Talipesmum · 25/11/2024 11:48

Agree tkmaxx is worth looking in (though I often see things in mine when I’m not looking for them, then when I go back specifically there’s nothing I want!)

I got a lovely bag from this site several years ago:

prices are in the right range and good for filtering etc.

Look at the higher end high street shops such as Arket, cos, & Other Stories etc. They can have decent quality leather bags around the £150 price point (more or less depending on size and design).

Hoppinggreen · 25/11/2024 14:27

M&S is pretty good and Radley (they aren't all covered in dogs), you could also try John Lewis

fivebyfivebuffy · 25/11/2024 14:35

I've had a couple of lovely coach bags in their sales for around that price

PeppiKoala · 25/11/2024 14:37

Radley do some nice bags. If you have an outlet near you you can get some really good deals!

AnotherFuckingUsername · 25/11/2024 14:41

Also try All Saints (sale or outlet). I've been very impressed by their bags.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/11/2024 15:26

Per pp I have lovely leather bags around that price point from both Arket and Cos. I also have a nice one from Whistles which is just slightly too small as an everyday bag (because I carry loads of junk) that MIL got me a few Christmases ago which was slightly more expensive, but came in around £150 with a Black Friday discount code.

Britpopbaby · 25/11/2024 19:14

Zatchels? If you are anywhere near York you can visit the outlet.

See by Chloe via Vinted?

Sorry for late response; travelling.

Thank you so much for all of these replies and pointers. Really appreciate them.

Just about to check out everyone’s individual recommendations which look very promising!

I've got my last two leather Rowallan bags from TK Maxx for half your budget and they are lasting so well!

Thank you Hoppinggreen and PeppiKoala for the Radley recommendation. I have avoided them to date precisely bc I thought they were all covered in dogs. But I will have another look.

There are some great Black Friday markdowns on the Fossil website at the moment. Their leather is extremely great quality.

Tenminutesegment753 · 26/11/2024 12:11

Thank you to all the poster who suggested TKMaxx - I am mind blown - would never have thought of looking there.

Thank you so much for this; Cos is one of my favourites but for some reason I never look in accessories.

Osprey is worth a look. Lovely bags

alpinia · 26/11/2024 12:25

Coccinelle in the sale. Great designs and practically indestructible.

Smaak Amsterdam is similar in quality and sale price but less variety.

Should be able to get something in the £150 range from both that will last well and look good.

Also keep an eye on Massimo dutti - their collection varies in style (sometimes classic, sometimes quirkier) but quality is good and sales are regular and quite good!

LoobyDoop2 · 26/11/2024 14:03

Plain, classic, unbranded leather is exactly what I look for and I’ve bought several bags like this from Etsy in the last few years.
