‘Grown up’ pyjamas?

BuddhaAtSea · 24/11/2024 16:44

I’m in my 50s and somehow, I never went past the stage of sleeping in old T-shirts. Never actually owned a pair of pyjamas as such.
I was watching a movie and she had not only matching pyjamas, but the dressing gown was matching too!!!
Maybe it’s time.
Where do I get a pair that I can wash more than once before it becomes totally shapeless? something I can open the door in?
I’m thinking cotton, grandad style, but with a bold but tasteful pattern, and a matching dressing gown.
Have you come across something like that?

I think they might be arriving tomorrow, I’ll let you know how I get on.

When I was looking for some, I really had to dig deep to find some swanning ones. Is that mean I’m getting old and ‘classic’? Not sure why one of a sudden XXL men’s T-shirts aren’t cutting it for me anymore. I blame menopause. HRT made me use curl activator and all sorts.

I prefer night dresses

I prefer night dresses

It’s difficult to gauge the perfect length with nighties, too long and you can’t move your legs properly, too short you end up pulling it down half the night cause your bum gets cold. I also absolutely cannot sleep if my shoulders aren’t covered, so straps are out of the question, unless we’re talking southern Italy in August or something.
Hmmm…

Yawn! Beautiful, comfy, British and last for years and years! They wash really well

Every year I pause on the Toast pyjama pages. Often buy them for other people. Possibly I’m not quite grown up enough yet. (Only a little older than you, @BuddhaAtSea …)

Toast ones are pretty but in my experience they don’t wash very well… fade quickly.

I’ve had nice ones from jigsaw

OMG I had the said M&S old PJs on last night the date on the label..'93!

The colour has not faded or any great wear and tear, however they appear to have shrunk a little bit.....

I've never paid more than €15 for a pair of PJ's and I have some lovely ones from Primark

Bitchillywillytoday · 27/11/2024 18:37

I was in TKmaxx today they had, their Nibs (cotton and that awful silky material), cyberjammies (brushed cotton tartan) and matching Chelsea Peers for adults and children, just in case anyone is interested!

Well, they arrived today and I really really like them.
I went for these

I’m a 16 on bottom and 14 on top, and a massive problem with how big I think I actually am. I bought 16 for both, and yes, 16 on top is a tiny bit big across the shoulders, but it’s quite fitted, the bottoms in 16 fit perfectly. Again, quite fitted, but I would think that, have been living in my partner’s XXL old T-shirts for the past 8 years.
I really like the material, it’s cotton with modal, whatever that means, but it feels like a slightly shiny cotton. But good quality. It’s thin, but I’m menopausal, don’t think I’ll ever cope with brushed cotton again. It’s made in India, doesn’t smell plasticky and it’s actually really well made, the trimming is neat and equal all around, the leopards match on the top, although they’re cut in half by the buttons and trimming, it continues with the other half/bit of the animal iyswim. The bottoms and the dressing gown have pockets!!!!
Now, to actually sleep in them and give them a wash and see just how good are they.

But it did achieve what I was after, which was a ‘I’ve got my shit together here’ look. Feels a bit much matching pyjamas with the dressing gown, I got it in 16, I’d go to an 18 next time for a bit more overlapping (I’m bloated like hell today). But yes, I can go take the bins out in them, or nip across the road for a coffee with my friend. And the dressing gown is cool, I’m thinking I could match the navy, orange and the white with other pyjamas underneath.

Sorry if this was dull, and overthought, but it is the first time I actually put some thought into it.

Good for you! Enjoy your new pj's, you may get hooked wafting around in your matching dressing gown!

I love Heidi Carey pyjamas. I have the lily of the valley pattern, both pajamas and nightie, and the matching dressing gown. I love lily of the valley as they remind me of my grandma's garden. They are lovely fabric and wash really well.

Ordered these in the Black Friday sale. Was quite surprised that they are really nice quality. Thick, brushed cotton:

@Kitkat1523

You might be ok as I found that they come up quite large.
