‘Grown up’ pyjamas?

BuddhaAtSea · 24/11/2024 16:44

I’m in my 50s and somehow, I never went past the stage of sleeping in old T-shirts. Never actually owned a pair of pyjamas as such.
I was watching a movie and she had not only matching pyjamas, but the dressing gown was matching too!!!
Maybe it’s time.
Where do I get a pair that I can wash more than once before it becomes totally shapeless? something I can open the door in?
I’m thinking cotton, grandad style, but with a bold but tasteful pattern, and a matching dressing gown.
Have you come across something like that?

I love Their nibs, some beautiful prints.

florriegirl · 24/11/2024 16:54

Have a look at Yawn pyjamas, beautiful soft cotton, lovely prints. I have a few pairs and they wash and wear really well.

Ginkypig · 24/11/2024 16:57

It depends on what you want to spend

cyberjammis seem popular but I wouldn’t pay the price.

iv had some good pyjamas from Asda and Morrisons but couldn’t tell you about quality now as my ones are from ages ago because they fit and have washed so well I’ve not needed to replace them.

marks and spenders but they are quite often too short in the leg for my taste as it does my head in having cold ankles!

joe browns but I had to put stitches in the waist as the elastic kept turning in the waist.

or get men’s! Less nice prints obviously but they quite often are a traditional style that are (unlike most women’s clothes these days!) a natural material with a decent length leg.

I love Chelsea Peers. Not cheap but I bought my first pair earlier this year and I still love swanning around in them.

MayorOfHuyton · 24/11/2024 17:04

I like Cyberjammies cotton/ modal mix pyjamas, they wash beautifully.

BuddhaAtSea · 24/11/2024 18:14

Swanning, that’s the word I was looking for! Cyberjamies gets pretty good reviews, and they have a decent discount at the moment, plus, I found a random discount code for 10% on top. So I ordered the leopard ones, both the pyjamas and the dressing gown, £70. And if they don’t make me feel like a mutton dressed as lamb, I’ll buy some more in the January sales from the other companies you kindly recommended.
Thank you all.

Sainsbury's have got some gorgeous ones in at the moment and 25% off too!

BuddhaAtSea · 24/11/2024 18:24

The Chelsea Peers ones are the ones I’ve eyed for a later purchase, and a pair from their nibs!

I looked in Sainsburys the other day, but they didn’t have my size, I was toying with the idea of embarrassing my DD with matching pyjamas for our trip away.

Well, I took the plunge, here’s to nice pyjamas!

I love Yawn pyjamas - that's my go to present for female friends and relatives! I've had a pair of two years now, washed many times and still look gorgeous on. And they feel so luxurious!

GreenSmithing · 24/11/2024 18:56

Haha, I was going to recommend Cyberjammies, but I see you've already ordered from them. I really like mine. They're comfortable, they wash well and they look good.

Nearlyadoctor · 24/11/2024 19:09

Hush pj’s last incredibly well or I’ve recently been very impressed with some from White Stuff. Cyberjammies always seem to lose buttons or shrink .

BeetledBrow · 24/11/2024 19:29

Every year I pause on the Toast pyjama pages. Often buy them for other people. Possibly I’m not quite grown up enough yet. (Only a little older than you, @BuddhaAtSea …)

GlassBellJar · 24/11/2024 19:50

Seasalt have some lovely pjs and dressing gowns. Not cheap but fab quality and worth keeping an eye on for in the sales. I have some for ages and they've washed brilliantly and still kept their vibrant colours and softness. They feel like proper grown up ones and not embarrassing when you have guests. I have to admit to looking forward to putting them on every evening!

Rina66 · 24/11/2024 19:55

I usually like Hush but think the patterns aren't as good as they used to be and the tops are just a bit too small. I've just bought a beautiful cotton charcoal set from M & S Autograph...£45

I have some from the white stuff and Boden which are lovely.
TBCO and Damson Madder also look pretty special depending on budget. I don't have any myself because £££ but they look gorgeous!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/11/2024 20:36

Chelsea peers are good.

Seainasive · 24/11/2024 20:38

I’ve got some nice ones from Uniqlo recently. Maybe not quite as glam as what you’re looking for but I’ve happily opened the door in them more than once 😀

BuddhaAtSea · 25/11/2024 07:34

@Seainasive I love Uniqlo, most of my casual wear are from them. But I want a bit of glamour I suppose.
I never noticed these things. I always slept in partner’s old t shirts, I do buy bottoms, but the last pyjama set I got was when I gave birth to DD. Couple of decades ago, from m&s, I still have the bottoms, I threw the top away last year, it had too many holes 😂.
So, from one extreme to another 😂

I’m in Australia so not sure if you have access there, but my household that ‘does’ PJ’s uses Peter Alexander for this purpose. We have two camps, those in nice PJ’s and dressing gowns, and those of us who use old trakkie pants and t-shirts/sweats as PJ’s. However, when it gets really cold (for us), both camps whack on an Oodie. Then the Oodies go on/off as realistically it’s not THAT cold here and they are so warm we start to sweat like pugs after a while.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 25/11/2024 08:41

Their Nibs are massively oversized. I had to go two sizes down.

Abracadabra12345 · 25/11/2024 08:54

@Rina66 Those M & S pjs are beautiful- they actually look elegant. Think I'll be taking a look myself..

Bitchillywillytoday · 25/11/2024 09:10

I bought 3 pairs of Cyberjammies, all of them were pretty rubbishy made and the brushed cotton fabric was really thin and washed really badly. Have a pair thats 24 years old from good old St Micheal and they look better than the new ones!

If your really going to splash out look at Derek Rose, Their Nibs are fine but only the cotton ones, the silky ones are sweat buckets for me, ugh, but they do run up large size wise. (you can often find them in TKMaxx)

ChimneyPot · 25/11/2024 18:48

Does anyone wear the Skims ones? I saw them recently and they looked good.

MidnightMeltdown · 25/11/2024 20:34

Ordered these in the Black Friday sale. Was quite surprised that they are really nice quality. Thick, brushed cotton:
