Is M&S sizing a bit small or all over the place?

Just received an order of 2x wide leg jeans, 3x dresses and a blazer. I got everything in a size 24 because a) I've gained weight and gone from an 18/20 to a 22 and b) I've always found M&S items a bit short on me (I'm 5ft9)

The jeans had absolutely no hope of fastening, one of the dresses was basically a top. The other two dresses fit pretty well (but like a 22 from Next or Fat Face - one is stretchy, one is not, both quite fitted styles) as does the blazer (also fitted style).

I have linen shirts, tops and knitwear from M&S in a 20/22 and they fit great too. Bottoms are not my friend, clearly!

Does anyone else experience this?

Haven’t bought there recently but I’ve always found its sizing generous compared to many other outlets.

Maverick197 · 21/11/2024 13:13

I find their sizing to be on the big size, I'm a size 10 and usually buy M&S size 8.

SmokeRingsOfMyMind · 21/11/2024 13:18

Almost always enormous, which I guess reflects its demographic.

Lifestooshort71 · 21/11/2024 13:45

I bought 3 pairs of elasticated waist, straight leg jersey trousers in identical sizes (different colours and one pair houndstooth) - all £17.50. One pair too short (they went back), one pair too long and one pair just right. When Goldilocks washed this last pair, they shrank and became too short. When she washed the too long pair, they didn't shrink so still need shortening. I find adulting confusing these days and thought I'd have cracked it at 72 😏

Doggymummar · 21/11/2024 13:48

I can usually get a size smaller. But I bought three bras off Vinted the other day, all 34 H and two are nowhere near going round me and the third is perfect. Could be something the previous owner did I guess.

LocationChange · 21/11/2024 13:48

As with previous posters, nearly always too large.

I'd say that it's all over the place. Some of their size 20 jeans fit me; others are too small. Ditto, trousers.

Their size 20 knickers are too big for me - I take an 18 in them.

I'm 5ft 9 with a 31 inch inside leg. Some of their Regular trousers fit; others are too long.

TheTruthICantSay · 21/11/2024 13:56

I think their sizing varies by style and type of garment. I am a size 16 and carry all my weight on my belly so I find that a lot of their trousers are difficult for me to wear - high waisted jeans in size 16 are mostly fine, but anything that's mid waist or low rise are too small for me. I consider that a "me" problem to do with the distribution of my weight (and Next are a bit better for this, for me).

Sosigrole · 21/11/2024 13:58

M&S is always on the larger size

BodyKeepingScore · 21/11/2024 13:59

I usually find their sizing to be on the larger side personally

NTmumAutisticteenagemeltdowns · 21/11/2024 14:03

Hello, I find their sizing all over the place.
Whilst many folk are saying sizing runs large, they aren't specifying if they are referring to standard or plus sizing.

Babyboomtastic · 21/11/2024 14:04

I've found it all over the place. I'm roughly a 16 but couldn't do up their trousers last time I went in and came out with a couple of size 12 dresses.

blobby10 · 21/11/2024 14:07

I find their sizing all over the place too - last time I bought something from there I tried on 4 pairs of size 16 trousers, all the same style and all fitted very differently!

Fizbosshoes · 21/11/2024 14:08

I'd say it varies, I mostly find it slightly big but DH recently bought me some sports leggings in my usual size and they were very snug (obvs they are meant to be tight fitting but i thought I might break them!! )

Eraserbread · 21/11/2024 14:10

I find it's mixed. Often too big, but whenever I buy anything in black, it's always too tight! Recently bought two pairs of the same jeans size 14, the blue were slightly big, the black wouldn't do up.

MidnightPatrol · 21/11/2024 14:11

Agree completely erratic sizing - albeit, I find all brands a bit like that.

I like that they do long length though, so I put up with it.

Reviews are q good for feedback on sizing.

Flamez · 21/11/2024 14:14

In their jeans I am a 10. In their jeggings usually a 12, but I’ve got some that are a 14 and are quite tight. They always used to be big, but I’m not so sure these days

Tronto · 21/11/2024 14:21

I thinks M & S sizing is all over the place. I went in and bought quite a few things for myself. I tried everything on and ended up buying things in size 8, size 10, size 12 and one thing in a size 14. I had to get these sizes to ensure the correct fit.

PilgorTheGoat · 21/11/2024 14:23

They are all over the place, not helped by the fact they stock several different brands. I am also on the bigger end of the scale and find their sizing very inconsistent. Usually they are a little more generous than other brands but then you can get a random item that’s much too small 🤷🏻‍♀️

Twilightstarbright · 21/11/2024 14:25

To specify as per PP, in the normal range I find they run large. I wear an 8/10 in Warehouse/Topshop and need a 6/8 in M&S.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 21/11/2024 14:38

I find them big in trousers but tops all over the place.

MousePolice · 21/11/2024 14:45

They used to be consistently large but stuff I’ve tried recently has been all over the place. Size 10 cords much too big, size 10 jeans only just fastened - I bought those assuming they’d give a bit on wearing- they have not.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/11/2024 14:48

All over the place IME!

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 21/11/2024 14:48

This season, I’ve bought a pair of size 16 trousers, a size 12 skirt, a size 14 shirt, two size small jumpers and a size 14 skirt. All of them fit me perfectly right now.

ClicketyClickPlusOne · 21/11/2024 14:48

Generally; generous
Sometimes: all over the place.

I was wearing Size 10 summer shorts and Size 16 sleeveless vest tops. (I am probably a 10 / 12)
