In the UK?

Nice outfit, but no idea if it's suitable for Thanksgiving.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 18/11/2024 16:01

V. black heavy but fine.

Overtheatlantic · 18/11/2024 16:03

It’s nice but I would put a lovely navy blue blouse with the black skirt to give it more sophistication.

CortadoPlease · 18/11/2024 16:03

I like all the components. It would be more current if you wore a neutral toned cardigan rather than red with black. But it’s a nice outfit either way.

PaminaMozart · 18/11/2024 16:06

I like the overall style and silhouette.

But I'm not keen on the shoes I must admit. I'd go for something less chunky.

Maybe also consider a livelier/more colourful/patterned blouse?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 18/11/2024 16:06

Oh yes, @CortadoPlease has it, a chunky cable cardigan in grey or caramel would be more on trend, if that’s important.

murasaki · 18/11/2024 16:06

I like it, but it's more Christmas than thanksgiving maybe? With the red and green. Amd a bit black heavy. If you feel good in it, go for it.

thesatsumabutter · 18/11/2024 16:13

Oh thanks

It’s a dress

Yes maybe will look too Christmassy

I chose the red cardigan because I found it in a good bargain and they only had red and the top of the dress is so boring

I don’t suit any earthy tones so brown/beige is a no -no

Yes is in the UK and I need something comfy because I will eat too much than get the public transport back home

I have another dress that could go well but it is blue and I hate red and blue combo

Maybe I need a different cardigan or different dress then

I know people do wear it now but I can't bring myself to wear navy with black. It doesn't work.

Some nice jewellery would bring it more to life.

murasaki · 18/11/2024 16:16

I'd go different Cardi, the dress is lovely, and maybe a chunky coloured necklace

SirChenjins · 18/11/2024 16:16

I feel it's quite casual - it's the kind of outfit I wear to work, so it doesn't look very special occasion to me. I also think the boots are too chunky for a swirly skirt. It's all subjective though - a random bunch of strangers on the internet will like very different things!

I know what you mean and I hated it for years until I saw some outfits put together by European stylists. It’s all about the right fabrics.

EmotionalSupportBiscuit · 18/11/2024 16:18

Not sure what the cardigan is bringing. It’s a long sleeve dress; it doesn’t need the cardi.

I do like the dress and the boots are fine. Inoffensive outfit, not particularly exciting, it’s the sort of thing I’d wear to work or meeting a friend for coffee.

Embrace the black, it’s more stylish. The red cardi looks like you realised it was Thanksgiving on your way out the door and grabbed something vaguely festive.

It will be a casual vibe and my casual is a lot more casual so I will look like a put some effor😇

It’s fine. Especially if your colouring suits black and red.

thesatsumabutter · 18/11/2024 16:21

@EmotionalSupportBiscuit
You are right

I’m just so scared of feeling cold, especially if I’m in doors and can’t wear my jacket

Maybe I should find a less heavy cardi with some pattern

murasaki · 18/11/2024 16:21

A burnt orange cardi could look autumnal while still working with the green coat.

Ahh, OK - I wasn't sure how dressy a thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant was!

TheBigSalami · 18/11/2024 16:22

It’s fine.

I really hate red, particularly red with black, so I’d wear a different colour

TryingTheBestICan · 18/11/2024 16:26

All nice apart from the red. Red and black always looks tacky to me.

EmotionalSupportBiscuit · 18/11/2024 16:29

@thesatsumabutter have you got a wide leopard print scarf? Dark tartan scarf? Even a dark grey? Take it in your bag and use it as a wrap if you get cold.

ItGhoul · 18/11/2024 16:31

The dress with the red cardigan and boots will be absolutely fine, OP.

Nobody is actually going to think 'Christmas' just because you're wearing a red cardigan.

Stravaig · 18/11/2024 16:33

I love it! The cardi is a bright winter berry in snuggly form, the skirt is twirly, the boots are comfy for dancing or tramping through snow. I know well the position where just a little effort has as much impact as someone else's full on glam! (Which probably means you shouldn't listen to me :)

ps. Winter is all about dramatic silhouettes in a stark landscape with pops of colour. No idea why so many are against black and red.

thesatsumabutter · 18/11/2024 16:34

Brown does not usually suit me but I might try this - maybe will be better with the red cardi and I have a necklace that will go well
