Looks good but afraid I don't know what ppl wear to a thanksgiving dinner.
Like the boots - but I always like boots!

Ratisshortforratthew · 18/11/2024 17:05

Love the boots and prefer the brown dress to the black - but please lose the red cardi! If you’re bothered about being trendy, it’s very in right now to wear knee length chunky boots like that with long tailored shorts and a shirt. Instead of the cardi what about a sleeveless borg/fleece waistcoat?

The dress with the red cardigan and boots will be absolutely fine, OP.

Nobody is actually going to think 'Christmas' just because you're wearing a red cardigan.

Agree. Do posters who think it's "too Christmasy" only wear red at Christmas?

It's a completely normal, acceptable outfit.

OutrageousImmoral · 18/11/2024 17:08

It’s really lovely! Especially the boots ❤️

Justkeeprollingalong · 18/11/2024 17:09

I love the cardi and it will go so well with the black dress

thisoldcity · 18/11/2024 17:11

The second dress is much more interesting than the first - black seems too 'workwear' to me unless the occasion is really formal. Not that red cardigan with the brown dress though. Do you need a cardigan? I find most places very warm this time of year and you'll be wearing boots.

Pipconkermash · 18/11/2024 17:30

The dress is very plain and very conservative. Is that a religious choice?

Hellohelga · 18/11/2024 17:38

Nice, boots maybe too clumpy? dress up with jewellery so if you take the cardi off doesn’t look too plain.

EmotionalSupportBiscuit · 18/11/2024 17:41

I guess I am scarred by the person who saw my red dress in the work lift and said ‘Ooh, is that your Christmas frock?!’

It was November.

I’ve had a ‘no red past October’ rule since then 😆

The neckline plus the boots makes it look a bit Puritan, but maybe it’s intentional because Thanksgiving?

Wishfives · 18/11/2024 17:47

I love the dresses where are they from please? I love a stompy boot too
I'm a casual dresser if I wore that outfit my friends doing know if made an effort

It's a plain black dress. It's a perfectly normal outfit, with or without the red cardigan.

@thesatsumabutter thank you :)

mdinbc · 18/11/2024 18:33

While all black is nice, I'm just not crazy about red with black. It seems a bit to 80's to me. What colour is your handbag? Try to get a large wrap/scarf maybe in a print, and have a chunky necklace.

RedR1ghtHand · 18/11/2024 18:46

Love either dress, the coat and especially the boots.

Also not keen on the cardigan, would swap that for an autumnal toned patterned scarf. Then if it's cold inside you can keep the scarf on.

Petrine · 18/11/2024 19:03

The boots look awful. The ultra clumpy styles are pretty dated now… as least they are in SE UK.

Wishfives · 18/11/2024 19:06

@Petrine maybe@thesatsumabutter owns the boots already and likes them? And realises it's actual real life not a catwalk so isn't remotely bothered her boots are "dated" in the "SE UK"

thesatsumabutter · 18/11/2024 19:14

So went to Uniqlo and saw the brown dress in flesh - nope - not for me

The new plan is the black dress, the boots, the coat and an oversized scarf and necklace - both very similar to the photos
I have a very fine and very fitted merino woll cardi so I might take with me in case but probably not needed

I like the contrast of the flated skirt with the chunky boots

Will keep the red cardi for the Christmas functions coming up

@thesatsumabutter sounds lovely, it all sounds very wearable so you don't have to faff with extra "bits" . Hate being dressed up but not comfy this sounds great. Enjoy yourself

Thank you

Will probably lose the necklace as I associate it with summer and now next to the colours of the scarf it looks like it will be too much but I have something simpler

Yes........ and they were always ugly...

Puzzled by all those saying they love them. Seriously?

Wishfives · 18/11/2024 19:28

@PaminaMozart yeah I'm always shocked that people like LV branded bags/coach bags/strathberry and dupes
Each to their own

thesatsumabutter · 18/11/2024 19:38

I love the boots but haven’t received them yet so will have to wait and see how I feel wearing them with the dress and other outfits

I’d never wear this dress with the shoes they put on the model so now curious to see photos what other shoes people would pick

@PaminaMozart @Petrine
