I’ve fallen in love with this dress but there are no reviews anywhere. Does anyone have it and can you wear a bra with it? It looks like the back is maybe not so low for a back strap, but is it too skimpy round the edges for shoulder straps?

Black Long Sleeve A-Line Penni Midi Dress

So-now so sleek. We love the elegant boat neck that’s balanced by an open scoop back. Plus the close fitting top that falls into a relaxed swishy skirt is a winner for every occasion. We’re wearing ours with Mary Janes. Boat neck Long sleeves Open scoo...

I have this!! The back is too wide and low. It also attracts a lot of fluff and the skirt is poplin so needs a lot of ironing. I really didn’t feel good in it at all and have only worn it once. I think it feels cheap. I wouldn’t buy again.

weareallcats · 19/11/2024 12:02

My dress has arrived! I think I like it. I also think it could be worn both ways around! I might get my alterations lady to sew some lace into the back.

Bumcake · 19/11/2024 12:42

I’ve just bought the Tu dress. It fits well and is comfy, the neck’s not too high but it is a bit matronly on the chest. I’m hoping some necklaces might break that up a bit.

The one in the original post? Wouldn’t your boobs fall out? Lace in the back is a nice ide.

It's lovely isn't it but sorry , I haven't seen it in the flesh.

I saw this in real life today. It's a bit pricier and has a net underskirt. It's gorgeous too.

No, I think they will be ok! Quite low cut, yes, but not indecently so!

I think if I wore it backwards I could potentially wear a shirt underneath. Am going to experiment!

Oh no! Mine is arriving tomorrow and I’m much less excited now 😭

I've ordered it! I was going to wait until next week because funds are not the best but there's a 25% discount on everything at the moment so I went for it.

Same! I was eyeing it up for weeks too and then cracked with the discount. Fingers crossed it works out, there’s no way my tits are staying up with tape, I’d need some industrial strength super glue 😂

Similar John Lewis

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-anyday-poplin-maxi-dress/black/p112467128?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappios&size=8&&_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Oh that’s a great alternative option, but the thing I love most about the original dress is the neckline. Definitely very close though!

Mine shrunk this year. I've been ill, lost weight and boobage. I wouldn't want to go through any of it again but I'm not unhappy that I'm a lot smaller up top!

@OrangeCorduroy for me the back is part of the attraction to the dress. I'm a weirdo who wants to show off a bit of a scar.

weareallcats · 19/11/2024 22:12

I have decided to keep mine (dress in the op in brown). I think it is a very versatile staple - can be worn both ways around, with various things over (and maybe under too). The skirt is the best bit for me and very much the style I wear day to day - I think I will wear it a lot, it’s very comfortable. I wouldn’t have kept it if I had intended it as a special event/party dress though.

Catheee · 19/11/2024 22:36

Oh this blue one is nice!

The Sister Jane dress makes the svelte model look pregnant

You need to see sister Jane in person. The design looks great but the fabrics tend to be cheap and the finish is awful

It is a pity- they should use better fabric and charge a bit more

Lotsofpots · 19/11/2024 23:09

@Catheee in terms of bras, probably one of those with a really low back strap? I don't bother wearing bras a lot of the time so I just wouldn't bother wearing one, but I appreciate this wouldn't be an option for everyone.

When I tried the dress on both DH and DS independently commented on how nice it looked, which is unheard of, so it's definitely a keeper.

weareallcats · 19/11/2024 23:11

The band of my bra doesn’t show, but the straps did, so it would be a strapless bra for me.

MidnightMeltdown · 20/11/2024 01:59

Nobody's child isn't the best quality tbh. I looked at that dress when the 25% off started, but ended up ordering this black skirt instead as I didn't like the low back in the dress and would prefer to match with my own top.

However, I think the skirt is the same material. Fit is ok, but it's the sort of fabric that creases very easily (it was already badly creased when it arrived) and will be a nightmare to iron and keep looking good, so will probably return.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 20/11/2024 03:34

WhitbyBee The black Sister Jane dress doesn't make the model look pregnant. I didn't try the dress on but the fabric looked a good quality, heavyweight fabric.

I disagree with the comment about their fabrics. I've only got one of their dresses- this one and it's stunning in real life. It's a heavy, shimmery, jacquard. The colours are almost Monet lily pond. Yes, it's polyester, but there's polyester and polyester. It looks far more expensive than it is and compares well with far more expensive dresses I own.

@Wishfives , provide link then.

How rude.

if it's beyond you to find the Sainsbury's website, at least ask nicely for a link.

No argument here, the low back is gorgeous! Just offering an alternative version for those that don't have a back worth showing off (me 😂) but like the overall style.
I love the boat neck of the NC one, the model looks amazing in it.
