Everyday jumper needed

SunnySideDownUp · 06/11/2024 18:02

I need a new everyday jumper. Medium thickness, machine washable, smart whilst comfy, not tight fitting but not too baggy.

I'm tall so it needs decent length arms and body. I'm a size 18, tall and broad.

I can't find anything I like, please help me!

I've just got a couple from the AND/OR range from John Lewis.
They're not cheap, but rather lovely.

Have a look at Cotton Traders they often have some nice jumpers that are warm and practical for day to
day.

Have a look at Woolovers, both the women’s & the men’s.
A big advantage with them regarding fitting is that they give the actual dimensions in inches for each style. They’re great quality too.

Acrylic isn’t great generally. It’s plastic. I prefer natural materials like cotton, linen.

My local Marks had some gorgeous stuff today.

As you are tall, look in the men's section. I just saw a lovely pink one on there.
I would always buy men's if I were taller, but the arms are too long for me.

Men's clothes are cut different. They are usually wider (what with men being wider) and as you've seen, the arms longer.

I'm tall but never buy mens clothes, or unisex. Even socks are wider and it's bloody annoying having your socks bunch up.

Superdry have some nice jumpers at the moment. I have some of their older versions of the cable knit sweater.

For plain basics I buy them from Uniqlo and have others from Arket and H&M, in a mix of mohair or angora, and I always prefer the wool ones which are reasonable quality.

LovelyDaaling · 10/11/2024 21:25

Try the men's jumpers in M&S.

Ralph Lauren men’s jumpers are great and last forever. There are a few on Brand Alley at the moment. https://www.brandalley.co.uk/men/sales/ralph-lauren-men-s.html

A poster was saying upthread that men's jumpers/clothes don't fit women.!?

this looks nice

@PiggyPigalle they could work well for the OP with broad shoulders and long arms.

Totally agree, which is why I suggested men's. OP said she wanted long body, long sleeves.

Ah, sorry I missed OP said she was broad as well as tall with long arms.

This is perfect 🤩 but annoyingly not in my size.

I have ordered two others from there to try, thank you!

They have it in your size in three other colours on the Next website

SunnySideDownUp · 12/11/2024 12:45

So I can report back from my experiments:

Fat face do not fit my broad shoulders and long arms, much though I wanted it to! However I've kept the confetti sprinkles like jumper as it's fun!

I tried on the M&S men's supersoft yesterday and bought immediately. Long, baggy but not too baggy, fits perfectly. Slightly too big around my waist but great everywhere else. Winner winner! And at only £25, much cheaper than many of the others.

I always find acrylic and/ or polyester always goes bobbly in a few washes, even when washed on the wool programme. Am I doing something wrong?

Am I doing something wrong?
Yes, buying clothes made of acrylic or polyester.

Yes, buying clothes made of acrylic or polyester.

I was responding to the posters above me suggesting jumpers made of those materials, and later too, but thanks for the useful tip.

As a size 18 woman, what size did you fit in the M&S men's super soft OP?

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 12/11/2024 19:45

And glad to hear you have a winner!

Sorry no help but I'm here for inspiration

As a size 18 woman, what size did you fit in the M&S men's super soft OP?

XL. The L fitted me but I wanted it slightly baggier. I'm broad of shoulders and hips, but not so much boobs. A bit cuddly around the tummy!
