Everyday jumper needed

SunnySideDownUp · 06/11/2024 18:02

I need a new everyday jumper. Medium thickness, machine washable, smart whilst comfy, not tight fitting but not too baggy.

I'm tall so it needs decent length arms and body. I'm a size 18, tall and broad.

I can't find anything I like, please help me!

Next/new look and river island have some lovely ones in

WilsonRemain · 07/11/2024 18:58

The Fatface one linked is in stock elsewhere, just bought it from Next in an 18.

My shoulders are too wide and the sleeves too short 🫠

Have you tried them on? I am broad shouldered and long armed and these are the only jumpers that do fit me, and they fit really nicely. Hope they haven’t changed them since I last bought one.

edit - just seen the link is to the acrylic ones, I thought it was the merino ones

SockFluffInTheBath · 07/11/2024 20:27

I’m almost 6’ with monkey arms and I find the standard fit at next is good. I know it’s not a mn favourite but I hate shopping and usually find something on their website.

restingintheshade · 08/11/2024 01:20

uniqlo are shit.

BadPeopleFan · 08/11/2024 07:57

I am 5'10 and a size 20, ditch women's jumpers!! I mainly buy mens wool jumpers, they're in gorgeous colours like cream, baby blue, royal blue etc. Honestly they just look like well fitting women's jumpers. The quality is usually much better for the price as well.

fairislecable · 08/11/2024 09:04

I am size 18 and 5’9” and I love this one from white stuff I have various colours they have never bobbled or shrunk and is nice and long.

I would like a new one but it seems it’s only in navy blue at the moment.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/11/2024 10:25

My DD is tall 5.7" and a size 6-8 . finds most jumpers too boxy .
She's got a couple of slouchy ones from Primark but her smart ones are from M&S mens , the shape is better (IHO) and colours are nice .
She goes for the smallest size.

KirstenBlest · 08/11/2024 11:29

Marks & Sparks does acrylic well. Looks like wool and doesn't go bobbly.
Not as warm as wool, but machine washable.

I dont need that warm. Are the M and S cheap supersoft ones any good just for wearing around the house and to Tescos? I wash often as I am clumsy and keep spilling coffee down my front.
I often buy men's jumpers too.

I have just bought this one from FatFace in the turquoise / teal colour, warm but not heavy, nice length on body and arms, lovely detailing.

Love this just bought it

KirstenBlest · 08/11/2024 12:23

People wear joggers with white sports socks and sliders or pyjamas and dressing gowns in my local Tesco, so you might look overdressed.Smile

I buy men's jumpers too, for the reasons pp
I don't like the Fat Face jumper.

watchingsmurfs · 08/11/2024 13:13

Second H&M. They have some really nice ones this year - nice quality.

watchingsmurfs · 08/11/2024 13:16

I just bought a couple of M&S soft ones. I’ve worn one once and it’s already pilling a lot. It isn’t going to wear well. I’ll be returning the other. It is, however, very warm.

LeftTheWashingOut · 08/11/2024 13:26

Agree @watchingsmurfs my M&S super soft has started looking really worn after just one wash which is disappointing as I wanted it as a smarter option but will need to become a weekender after a couple more washes I think. Very warm though, and soft - bit snug on my chubby arms though, I should've sized up

dotty2 · 08/11/2024 14:36

I have just bought two jumpers from Nearly New Cashmere and am pretty pleased with them - both around the £50 mark. Tbh, I was a bit disappointed that one of them was from Uniqlo (they leave the tags in), which makes it feel a bit less of a bargain. But they recondition them, and honestly you wouldn't know they weren't new. They say they machine wash everything at 30 before they put them on sale, so they know they wash well.

These are nice, wash well, low price & good range of colours.

I’ve got a couple of these in different colours. They look far more expensive than they are.

Men’s sweaters from M&S are my preference
I size up, I’m a 16 and buy medium, and they’re lovely and long in the sleeves and body. Not fancy but very useful.
in terms of weight, lightest are merino wool, then lambs wool. Their cashmere are great value as the warmest

Uniqlo merino has always worked very well for me, though apparently not fpr others. I find acrylic very itchy.

I bought a couple of Uniqlo Merino roll necks at the end of 2020 in black and charcoal grey and they have worn and washed very well. (I wash them by hand in liquid detergent then spin them off in the machine inside a safety pinned pillow case and dry them on hangers.) They have kept their shape well and haven't gone thin at the elbows.

I'd planned to buy a different colour this year, but they seem to have stopped selling the roll necks apart from the ribbed version. I was looking at the reviews for crew necks, instead, and was concerned to see that a number of recent reviewers have said that they now feel thinner than they used to be and developed holes after machine washing, which has rather put me off buying another one. I haven't tried M & S's Merino roll necks, which are a little more expensive.

These. Absolute workhorses for work and casual wear. I have about six of them 😂

I wash them on a wool setting with my other actual wool things - the oldest one is only starting to pile now after over a year
