A dress and boots for winter...

I live in jeans/cropped trousers and I'd really like to start wearing a dress with boots but don't really know where to start. I'm a size 14, about 5.7. I'd like something slightly boho but also smart enough for seeing clients (I'm a therapist!). I don't love my knees. Probably long boots are more flattering.

Any recommendations? I'm 58 if that matters!

I don't know about Boho, but I've just bought this dress and it's incredibly comfortable. I'm planning to wear with boots for work but would be great chilling at home or going for a walk too. Love it! Not sure how it washes yet though

For reference I'm 5'8/size 8 (but bought 6 as M&S sizing) and the fit is perfect imho

Fadedchintz · 02/11/2024 17:36

Great thanks! I might try the brown one

Following ... I like wearing dresses in summer, and would like to wear them more in cooler months but I'm darned if I can work out what to do about footwear nowadays.

For Boho, my go to shop is Antropology

Britpopbaby · 02/11/2024 17:49

Uniqlo have a long dress which is plain up top and pleated at the skirt.

Following as I’m keen for some knee high boots and not found any I like yet.

It washes brilliantly, and doesn't need ironing (assuming last year's version which I have is the same fabric composition). It's in regular rotation for work here, and I normally wear it with knee high boots.

Also good range of ankle and knee high boots at M&S at the moment - mix of wearable flat and block heels e.g.

What sort of length dress do you like?

i think midi is still fashion but looks awful on me, so I prefer mini or knee length. What length suits you?

I'm a bit bigger than you and this Joe Brown looks great with boots, is flattering on me and delicious colours https://www.joebrowns.co.uk/rebecca-crinkle-dress-wf119

Nice, and they do it in petite. If I can find some boots I'd be tempted.

mdinbc · 04/11/2024 04:07

If you're looking for an every-day practical low heeled boot, these from Boden fit the bill and will look nice with casual dresses.

I think boots with a bit of shaping around the ankle look nicer with dresses.
I love these, but they are a bit higher, but still a thick heel with stability.

I got a pair of flat brown leather boots from hotter. I love them. I'm usually a jeans and hoodies type and older than you. I found a couple of nice easy wash/dry dresses at Roman on sale. I also got a couple of nice cardies incase it's cold not long ones, from Debenhams online.
They look a lot like these but from last year. Hotter

Happyher · 04/11/2024 16:07

for dresses I’d look at White Stuff

Papyrophile · 04/11/2024 20:18

Dress and boots is an easy comfortable look, and versatile. Not smart enough; add earrings/ a necklace. Too smart, take off necklace/smaller earrings. Cold, wrap a big scarf on top, or put thermals underneath. Wear all winter.
