A dress and boots for winter...

I live in jeans/cropped trousers and I'd really like to start wearing a dress with boots but don't really know where to start. I'm a size 14, about 5.7. I'd like something slightly boho but also smart enough for seeing clients (I'm a therapist!). I don't love my knees. Probably long boots are more flattering.

Any recommendations? I'm 58 if that matters!

Oh gosh how did that happen?! I literally read the thread (that my post was intended for) and started typing on the same thread! I haven't even read this thread so no idea how my post ended here. So sorry! 😆

Howdy OP! Came on here looking for inspiration (we're the same height and size!) then realised I live in dresses and boots in winter so I can help :D

Best tights - snag! Get some high denier, they don't fall down, dreamy!
Best boots - I love my brown timberland zip ankle boots. They were an investment, but they go with everything. A patent black boot is also a good wardrobe staple - https://www.yoursclothing.co.uk/yours-curve-black-red-floral-print-chiffon-tie-neck-dress-p
Dresses - I tend to shop in charity shops/vinted/eBay and look for Fat face and Boden or go for designs like 'wrap dress' or 'shirt dress'. I opt for ones with a bit of a waist where I can pop a belt on (not sure this is 'in' but it suits me).

Here's one on fat face atm https://www.fatface.com/style/su373583/e52040#e52040 I like that you could pop a thermal sleeveless top on underneath, and a short jacket over the top, with thick tights and boots it would be toasty.

Same with this one - https://www.fatface.com/style/st642659/t49469#t49469 I tend to go for something with long sleeves so I could layer up underneath it rather than wearing bulky cardigans on top.

example shirt dress. https://www.fatface.com/style/su208812/k76037#k76037

Hope this helps!

Now off to try and convince myself I don't need that paisley dress...

Anna Wintour usually nails AW/smart dress/boot style imo. I like the shape she wears - narrow cut arms and shoulders with circle skirts. Obv her wardrobe is worth a million dollars, but the inspo is free!

I also like her use of collar necklaces instead of long statementy ones.

Following ... I like wearing dresses in summer, and would like to wear them more in cooler months but I'm darned if I can work out what to do about footwear nowadays.

Boots, always boots.
They're far easier than heels, more comfortable, warmer, and in my opinion look much better. Have a range of ankle, thigh, even knee-length boots. I have.
