Where can I buy the thing I have seen?

I've been on MN for an age and for anybody who vaguely remembers when all round here was nowt but fields, you'll also recall that I have neither style nor beauty.

I limit my questions to idle wonderings about where other people shop. I shop in charity shops and have no idea what I'm doing.

Yesterday - in York if it matters - I followed a woman (coincidentally, I'm not a stalker) who looked like she'd stepped out of a Gudrun Sjoden catalogue. Underneath her layered skirt/dress, she was wearing leggings but they weren't fitted. They were slightly loose, looked linen-like and had tiny buttons at the ankle, possibly wooden buttons. They were FAB and I've been trying to Google to find something similar. I've found lots of leggings with ankle buttons but they're not right. These were very folksy, festival type wear, looked like a natural looser fabric rather thank clingy lycra. I should have asked her really.

Any ideas?

Could they have just been slim fit linen trousers as opposed to legging leggings iyswin

Floisme · 31/10/2024 16:14

Churidar? I remember Toast doing them (or a version of) but it was a long time ago.

I guess so but very, very slim fit.

I'm still googling but can't find anything.

You really must go up to women if you think they look amazing and TELL THEM! and then ask them where they got the thing you're admiring. People love being complimented and asked. I've done this recently and the things were from John Lewis and Primark so very accessible!

JaneFondue · 31/10/2024 20:48

This sounds like an Indian churidhar, as pp said. They have buttons.

ShowOfHands · 31/10/2024 21:01

I can't find any churidhar that look remotely like what she was wearing.

They were far more casual, probably jersey material and looked quite boho/ethnic in style.

I usually do. I was just wrangling luggage and children.

They could also be handmade. A lot of people make their own clothes, especially if they prefer non standard styles of clothing.

Igneococcus · 31/10/2024 21:15

I have a pair of trousers/leggings just like you describe them from Toast but they are at least 10 years old, probably older. They are made from quite thin cotton, not stretchy at all. I can search for them tomorrow and take a picture.

Hilarious. I remember when Mumsnet was all obsessed with bloody Gudrun and her weird clothes.

Yepyepyepducky · 31/10/2024 21:17

Were they almost like spats leg warmer hybrid?

ShowOfHands · 31/10/2024 21:27

That's two mentions for Toast!

As somebody who makes loads of her own clothes, believe me I know!

They didn't look handmade.

Almost yes, but they appeared to be trousers.

I wear a lot of leg warmers so I guess it's a similar look I was recognising/coveting.

LunaNorth · 31/10/2024 21:43

She wasn’t an off-duty Jorvik Viking, was she?

ShowOfHands · 31/10/2024 21:50

Similar yes but a jersey material and shorter.

Ha. I can see why you'd think that, but no.

I've no idea but thanks for this thread as I think my mum might like leggings with button detailing. Good luck finding the answer!
