How to style a satin midi skirt

I got this satin skirt after seeing it recommended on here.
https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E469830-000/00?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwg-24BhB_EiwA1ZOx8rNphFGD22CsMtP-NIKSyKkzPWGnwB0ZA8g6Kw97VbgW1C7GbRHA9BoCUqoQAvD_BwE&colorDisplayCode=69&sizeDisplayCode=003

I really like it but not sure how to style it. I've worn it with trainers and tucked in white t-shirt which I think looked good. But what will work with it in colder months? And how can I dress it up for a night out?

These skirts look great with jumpers and chunky boots. What colour do you have?

WhereAreWeNow · 25/10/2024 14:38

Good idea. I've got the blue. It's a deep blue but not quite navy.

How about for a dressy night out?

I've got one of these in black. Chunky oversized jumper and biker boots style it well in colder months.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/10/2024 14:42

I don't like them styled with runners or chunky boots. I think they're lovely with kitten heels and a fluffy jumper

Zephyry · 25/10/2024 15:10

Id go for a textured top for the evening to contrast with the satin material in the same way a chunky knit would. So maybe a fine short sleeve knit with something that makes it look 'evening', or a lacy or sequin top? Then with chunky sandals or trainers

This sort of thing

Thanks @Zephyry - I do like a lacy top.

I have a cream chunky half zip jumper and black ankle boots, sort of Chelsea boots which I wear with my leopard print skirt

Whatineed · 25/10/2024 15:51

I've been wearing mine with leopard or studded ballet flats from Zara and a black long sleeve jersey top with a shoulder twist detail for Autumn that I bought last year from Mint Velvet. You could still wear a T shirt with a shortish cardigan over it? A formal shirt tucked in?

Now it's getting colder I plan to wear an oversized fluffy jumper and Military boots. I will also get a bardot style knit to wear with my skirt on the odd night out.

I have a similar skirt: this is how I’ve styled it on the last two occasions I’ve worn it

How about for a dressy night out?

I prefer these skirts with boots and a sweater, as mentioned above. For a night out, I'd stick with the same aesthetic, but go with a more slender, pointy boot, and a slinkier knit, maybe a fine polo neck.

I wouldn't go with anything fussy, flappy or sandal-y, but that's just me.

Louisies · 25/10/2024 17:58

Gorgeous skirt btw! You've persuaded me to buy in the same colour but they've sold out!!

Pointy boots and slinky knit could work. Thanks.

I've seen a few women around town wearing satin midi skirts with short or cropped, fitted long sleeved angora or chunky knit jumpers and chunky boots. I love that look.

AutumnMood · 25/10/2024 22:51

@CrowdedCloset Thanks for sharing. How did you create these flat lays?

CrowdedCloset · 25/10/2024 23:14

@AutumnMood its an app called Whering.

I track my entire wardrobe and record my daily outfits.

@Louisies there are similar options at Mango and Zara if you can't get this one.

Next and F and F have them

Igavebirthtoabanana · 26/10/2024 09:16

I have this skirt, it’s great. Especially so because it comes with a separate under slip.

I’ve ordered a short sleeved knit in light gold and subtle sparkle from Next, hopefully it all works together as planning to wear the combo on couple of casual Christmas do’s. Had to be short sleeved as I’d get very hot otherwise.

Alternatively you could try any boxy, short length boucle cardigans that has some metallic yarn/lurex sewn in them.

henlake7 · 26/10/2024 12:38

Ive got an almost identical one from New Look via Vinted.
There are always lots of them on there in various colours (I have a pewter grey as well).

BookishType · 26/10/2024 12:49

I have this style of skirt in 6 colours (need to stop buying them). I think they look great with a boxy jumper and Chelsea boots or DMs. Before the cold weather, I’d wear with trainers.
