Does anyone wear clothes from kids range?

I recently tried this. I like quite a lot of kids clothes and am a size 10, so theoretically the measurements often match up for circa age 14-15. But the item (a jumper) just didn't sit right. I can't put my finger on what it was though!

So my question is, are older kids clothes cut differently to the equivalent adult size? Waist and chest measurements match, but are perhaps the shoulders cut narrower, or less room for breasts, or something?

I want to know whether it's worth trying again and ordering some more things!

Yes, occasionally. I am a size six so plenty of options in theory but usually only really tee shirts in practice.

The biggest problem I find is that the clothes are intended for 12-13 year olds so the sleeves are often too short and they aren’t cut for people with a bust or hips (obviously).

Britpopbaby · 22/10/2024 13:03

Yes thermals and a couple of dresses.

PersephonesPantaloons · 22/10/2024 14:40

I can see why age 12-13 wouldn't have much of hips/breasts, but girls definitely have breasts at 14-15 I would say. I have quite short arms I think so I don't think arms would be problem! Maybe it is the shoulders 🤷

@Britpopbaby what size are you if you don't mind me asking? And do you think you are a 'standard' shape in terms of shoulders, arm length, hips etc?

I haven’t in a while but did in my 20s when I was a size 6/8 with A cup boobs. Couldn’t do bottom half as I’m more of a pear with bigger hips and small chest. I used to wear age 12/13/14 in polo shirts, tee-shirts, hoodies etc.

Used to love raiding the kids section of H&M and Zara.

Thefirstdance · 22/10/2024 14:50

No. Not since I was ten. I do sometimes buy men’s clothes though 😂
It must be quite a saving sometimes, as I guess kids clothes are cheaper? Lucky you 👍🏻

Garlicnaan · 22/10/2024 14:59

I have some great kids' items but nothing form fitting or tailored. Loose pull on trousers and sweatshirts.

I wouldn't buy jeans or a tight dress.

kindertoPTS · 22/10/2024 16:26

I have worn bits from Next age 14 range in the past. As others have said the cut isn't exactly the same as an adult. And they're shorter than adult clothes too. But most 14 year olds would be buying from the women's range I imagine...?

ZaZathecat · 22/10/2024 16:30

Yes I've bought ages 14 from Zara kids and from New Look. Usually jumpers or tops. I'm a fairly small-chested 10

bellsbuss · 22/10/2024 16:36

I do , I've bought jumpers and tops and they fit fine.

BobbyBiscuits · 22/10/2024 16:37

I wear kids trainers. If you're a 5.5 or below you save on the VAT. Lol.
I've a pair of Nike joggers that are aged 13-14. And a marks and sparks jumper with a bear on it that's a kids aged 13. Can't see a teen boy wearing it tbh?! Lol.
I used to wear school uniform clothes from BHS out clubbing when I was 16?!

PersephonesPantaloons · 22/10/2024 16:39

Thanks all so much! So the consensus is to stick to non form fitting stuff, got it!

@BobbyBiscuits I like your style! I could absolutely rock a bear jumper...

@PersephonesPantaloons haha. Looks ok on me but lol @ a 13 yo lad walking round like that! 🤣

justbeingasmartarse · 22/10/2024 17:14

Not really. Why would you do that? Are they cheaper as pp says?

Ineedaholidayagain · 22/10/2024 17:19

I'm size 4 feet so have kids trainers and shoes, they fit fine. Also when I bought my sons DofE coat I made sure it would fit me too.

Yes. There is no VAT on children’s clothes and shoes.

MonsteraMama · 22/10/2024 17:38

No, alas I am not a dainty Mumsnet teeny tiny and would look absolutely ridiculous if I attempted to squeeze into a child's clothes.

Pal of my mam's is 4'11 and very slim though and she definitely gets some of her jumpers from M&S kids.

My dress is quite form fitting and works well as I am also petite. It’s worth investigating.

StressedQueen · 22/10/2024 17:45

I mean I don't go there and look for clothes ever. But I have 2 teenage daughters who are fairly similar sizes to me, they're slimmer but some oversized clothing or baby tees can fit well occasionally if I have nothing on me! They're about a Size 2/4 and I'm a Size 6

Livinginaclock · 22/10/2024 17:46

I do, size 8 and 5 foot, why not?
They are cheaper, kids' shoes too since I'm a size 3.

Tbh even my teen daughters rarely go into kids sections because they're 15 now so you don't find a lot for ages 14-15. They're 5'4 and I'm 5'3 so fairly short which is why it sometimes works.

TheGreatMuldeeni · 22/10/2024 17:48

I bought a kids' jumper recently just because it was the kind of ridiculous fuzzy thing you wouldn't find in the adult section, and it fit me fine at 5 feet, size 8-10, small boobs.

DuckonaBike · 22/10/2024 17:59

I do occasionally and have often bought kids’ shoes as I’m a 3. I’m 5’4 and slim with no tits so this thread is making me think I should do it more often!
