Are metallic gold bags tacky looking?

I fancy one of these metallic gold camera bags.
I never had a gold bag before and I plan to use as normal day to day bag.
Do metallic bags worn as day bag look cheap and tacky?
( I’m middle age woman- if that makes a difference, not a trendy 20s year cool chic LOL) 😂

Some are, same as anything but the Pom Pom London one looks a nice gold from your photo .

loropianalover · 15/10/2024 14:41

In general if something is well made, clean, and well kept, I would never look at it and think ‘tacky’.

I also believe that if a woman likes a bag, she should buy it!

Love metallic gold handbags!

tobee · 15/10/2024 15:57

Apparently if you're cool toned then best to avoid gold and go for silver instead. Whereas warm toned gold looks good and silver not. For clothes and accessories

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor its the Pom Pom one I want to get.. it’s a good quality as I already have other colour from them.

Yeah,they're great,aren't they? 😊

I only see gold bags being carried by 80 year olds.

You might get away with silver as I do see younger women carrying silver bags.

I saw one recently, an oversized silver clutch bag being carried by an attractive young woman.

Why should she care what young women are doing?

JasmineTea11 · 15/10/2024 17:13

I have one like the silver one you've posted. I like it because silver goes with lots of colours, but makes a change from brown leather/ grey, but is a bit jazzier than black for, example. I'm middle aged!

And why is there an assumption, which the OP also makes, that being young makes one stylish or more stylish, than an older woman?

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 15/10/2024 20:56

Are they tacky? Don't think so, not my thing but I don't think they're tacky.

Goldandsilverr · 16/10/2024 08:20

I do prefer silver usually but in this case the silver one I was looking at Pom Pom London has gold hardware, so I am not keen on that one. The bronze one is too mute.
The gold one is more bling.

I think bright gold is a bit tacky, but duller bronze shades look good. Don't let a randomer's opinion stop you going for bright gold if you like it though!

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/10/2024 08:25

I hope not because I have just bought one and I am using it today (special occasion though). I might use it for holidays too .

CocoapuffPuff · 16/10/2024 08:26

I'd say they were a summer holiday bag (for me) but no, not tacky.

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/10/2024 08:27

I'm wearing gold shoes, a blue dress, a gold pashmina and the gold bag.

NCfor24 · 16/10/2024 08:27

Not tacky.
I like a slightly softer gold rather than brighter but go with what works for you.

ReadWithScepticism · 16/10/2024 08:29

I think they are horrible, but all that matters is whether you like them and enjoy having them with you.

I really wish they did silver hardware.

@Goldandsilverr You have just answered your own question. Gold is bling, not stylish. I see this colour used by older women on cruise ships. It’s difficult to imagine what day look a gold bag enhances. Certainly no stylish winter coat. If you want a bling look go for it but don’t confuse that with style. I’m a lot older than you and I have similar taste in bags that my DDs have who are 32 and 30. A good stylish bag is ageless.

Or they might have really shit taste in bags and as a result you do too?

The leather can't be dyed that color though, isn't that so? So is this some kind of topical treatment that makes it metallic? If so then won't this be less resilient? ( wow, 3 questions in a row. I'll have more coffee...)

Yeah, that’s the another thing I wonder if they scuff or wear easily. I used to have gold and also silver leather Topshop ballet flats and they got scuffed and looked scruffy as the gold colour sort of worn off?
