2nd marriage (to same bloke)

Just going to registry office but would like some nice photos, DP will be in shirt and tie but not like a full trad wedding suit.

Size 12. 40yo.

Don't want white, am a bit alternative, so maybe black? But I'm not sure!

Budget of around £200

Maybe look at bridesmaids dresses, as there's zillions of styles and shapes, and then accessorise your way.

I didn't want to marry in white or full length, so I got a bm dress.

I don't know. Bridesmaids dresses are quite boring and wedding looking too.

I really like 1920s/30s/40s looking things

Congratulations!

Have a look at

Batsheva dresses

Klements dresses

Realisation dresses This one is gorgeous. (I would look for other stockists of the 12 or get a larger size and have it tailored to fit perfectly.)

Oh, too late - I have no retro-dress expertise.

Thankyou! We're doing it in secret
No family.

Some of them are lovely but a bit too out there for my vibe I think!

Maybe above your budget but I got my dress from here, if you like vintage style www.digforvictoryclothing.com/

Lots of inspiration on this thread Show me your non traditional wedding dress! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/styleandd_beauty/4861516-show-me-your-non-traditional-wedding-dress

Thankkyou but they're all more like 1050s swing and tea dresses.

I'm not sure what I'm after 😅😭

Now this is grand without being obviously bridal. You could wear it again for other celebrations (anniversaries, third wedding, Christmas gatherings). Not at all ‘out there’ but bold and beautiful:

Congratulations and yes please to more details but only if you can avoid outing yourself!

How about a proper late 1940s suit? This kind of thing:

That one's sold out I'm afraid and probably wasn't your size anyway but they have others and get new stuff in fairly regularly.

I should add that I've never bought from them but I follow them on Instagram so I can drool. They also go to vintage fairs so there might be one coming up where you could see one for real.

This stunning skirt suit was made in the 1940s from tan gabardine. It was cut in the classic hourglass silhouette of the period with strong padded shoulders and a nipped waist. The sharp collar accentuates the shoulders and leads to two wonderful lucit...

There's no exciting story, sorry!

Some of these are lovely but just not hitting the spot!

Sorry but the last one reminds me of the lady from Dianeys Tarzan!

Omg. My late mum was born in 1931 and wore this type of outfit when she met my dad. She would have loved to have seen these.

she was a keen seamstress, and would have appreciated the craftsmanship of the age.

Thanks for posting. Unfortunately my body shape could never squeeze into these. Gals were svelte back then! Probably due to rationing and smoking!

Gozillah · 10/10/2024 18:35

Oh that's gorgeous! If it was just a little less sequin-y I would love it!!

No need to be sorry but I need to know - which Tarzan? As in which version? She might be my new style icon.

No problem! My mum got married in a similar suit which might be partly why I was so taken with it.

Those were leaner times then it's true, but I think heavy duty underwear probably had a lot to do with it as well!
