fcked my hair up

teeteringontheborderline · 09/10/2024 22:14

tried to cut my hair earlier and in order to get it straight, ended up going far far shorter than I wanted.
It's now a bob with bangs but very thick and abrupt and about ear level; it looks stupid, bowl cut ish and frankly ridiculous as I have quite a moon face due to havig chronically swollen glands and a fat forehead. (yes, the aesthetic gods did not bless me).
Is there anything I can do to sort it - I was thinking buzz it all the same length all over then style like a pixie cut? or is it just a matter of waiting?

I really really really do NOT want to have to go to a hairdresser's for multiple reasons.

Walk away from the cutting implements…can you style it in any way so it looks ok until it grows?
I can assure you, no good will come from further cutting…

EngineEngineNumber9 · 09/10/2024 22:26

Could you buzz the back and sides (sort of from below temples down) to a no. 3 or 4 but leave the top longer, maybe the same length of the bangs but chop into it a bit and sort of go for a edgy, choppy pixie?

Do you have proper scissors? Blending scissors might help a bit too.

SirChenjins · 09/10/2024 22:26

You will not miraculously transform your hair into a pixie cut by giving it a buzz cut. Fgs step away from the clippers now. Why don’t you want to go to the hairdresser? They’re really the only ones that can fix it (if it’s really that bad - I bet it’s not as awful as you think 😊)

Doggymummar · 09/10/2024 22:27

I feel you, dyed mine ginger tonight tdye was called pearl blonde. All I can say is, it will grow

GogAndMagog · 09/10/2024 22:29

Could you clip it to disguise the cut?

Grmumpy · 09/10/2024 22:33

I would suggest you might try thinning scissors to reduce the bulk but do it slowly and check as you go. You can thin hair by holding an under layer and pushing the scissors up to you reduce the bulk not the length. Good luck.

DeliciousApples · 09/10/2024 22:34

Hair band, preferably plastic with teeth, to disguise what's been cut where?

dudsville · 10/10/2024 01:32

I avoid hair salons, haven't been for a decade. They're overwhelming environments requiring to much time commitment and I'm always disappointed. I recently gave myself a shorter cut. It is harder and you have to persevere to learn how to do it. That means living with not so great hair in the meantime. Alternatively, look for a mobile hairdresser that will come to you.

Workiskilligme · 10/10/2024 03:48

Just tuck it behind your ears and in 2 weeks it will look OK. Either go to hairdressers or just leave it.

HelterSkelter224 · 10/10/2024 04:00

Can you ask around for recommendations for a mobile hairdresser who can come to you? In the meantime I'd probably just try and use clips etc until it grows out a bit rather than cut it any further, I don't think clippers will achieve a pixie cut and it will just look worse. Are you able to share the reasons you don't want to go to a salon? Someone might be able to suggest a solution.

Happyinarcon · 10/10/2024 04:04

It’s French

Butterflyfern · 10/10/2024 04:50

If you go shorter, you'll just have to go through the bob stage later on when you grow it out. I'd leave it to grow from this point. Can a friend help thin the ends/ tidy the back if you are adamant about not approaching a hairdresser?

A buzz cut does not grow into a pixie cut. If you haven't the skill to cut long hair straight, you haven't the skills required to create a flattering pixie cut (not meant harshly, I don't either)

Flickeringgreenflame · 10/10/2024 05:34

I don't think a pixie cut will look good if you have a "moon face". They tend to suit people with smaller features/faces. Also to make a pixie cut look stylish requires a decent cut - you don't want the kind of short haircut that schoolboy have - and a fair amount of product. I think perhaps a hairdresser might be able to put some layers in to soften the look of what you have. Honestly, they have seen hairdressing disasters aplenty. I think a buzz cut is even less likely to flatter a round face and it will not grow into a puxie let slone a flattering pixie..

SCC701 · 10/10/2024 05:49

Have a look at jayne_edosalon on Instagram. She has videos to do razor cut bobs yourself and they look fantastic. Yes, I know they will look great on there but is worth a look. www.instagram.com/jayne_edosalon/profilecard/?igsh=MWd6ZXRzcjFmbnp1dg==

OuterSpaceCadet · 10/10/2024 06:52

I'd order lots of smallish claw clips online and play around with different ways of clipping it back. Could try lots of small twists, or in rows, or clipping one side back or whatever.

OneRealRosePlayer · 10/10/2024 06:53

have a look in your local community. There are some hairdressers who will come to your house. You just have to clean up after

kaos2 · 10/10/2024 06:53

You need to get someone to thin it .. I cut my own very thick hair and there is a technique I use which thins out each hair so it doesn't stick out .

Any hairdresser can help I'm sure

Crazyeight · 10/10/2024 06:56

Yabu for not providing a pic

wulves · 10/10/2024 06:56

I have done similar. Also considered buzzing it. Glad I didn’t! Are you any good with styling tools? You can add in some waves for example and some texture and make it look purposefully messy.

sashh · 10/10/2024 09:59

Would a mobile hairdresser work?

If not then scarves, ribbons, hats, hair bands and hair pieces can all play a role in making you look fab.

Do you look like a pencil though?

Honestly, either leave it alone or see a professional. You risk making it worse.

Its almost hat weather?

teeteringontheborderline · 10/10/2024 11:55

washed it and done a messy side part. will dye it all one colour and leave it to grow out i think - it does grow very fast, it ws only dyed these colours midway through August and there was none of the black/brown roots at all then, now there is about 2.5"

thanks for stopping me doing something that would have taken even longer to come back from, folks

I don't want to go a salon because my hair/scalp are in horrid condition as a combination of dermatitis herpetiformis, very poor/non existent hair and skin care due to mental health issues, and agoraphobia/AvPD - plus the cost; when I did go, years ago, it was quite expensive and I was never 100% happy with the result. AT least if I do it myself, and am not happy with it, it's free.

Please no hateful comments on the image. I do acknowledge I'm not blessed aesthetically 😅 and doing what I've done to my hair was bloody stupid, to put it mildly.

Edited for spelling and grammar!

Doggymummar · 10/10/2024 12:04

Well, I don't see anything wrong with it. Could probably do with a good conditioning mask but the cut looks fine. And you know what, my ginger looks beautiful this morning so we are both winning

Radiolala · 10/10/2024 12:07

You’ve made it sound so much worse than it actually is!

I like it! You’ve not done a bad job at all. Stop being horrid about yourself.
