Should this bag be what I spend my gift card on…?

https://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/product/marc-jacobs-the-clover-shoulder-bag_R04365051/#colour=CEMENT

v generous relative gave me a gift card that can (if I supplement by £25!!) afford me this bag I’ve had my eye on…

Ive never had a Marc Jacobs bag before. (Though I’m a real Bag lover!) Are they decent quality?

I just adore the colour (I know the griege effect isn’t to everyone’s taste but I love it) and I’ve been looking for a small crossbody/shoulder bag, just big enough for the basics. I don’t have anything like this and I’m keen for a change from lugging pointless stuff and getting neck ache.

Or should I forget the bag and spend the gift card bit by bit on smaller items to eke out the pleasure a bit more?! I could get some nice Dune loafers AND a really lovely perfume and prob still have a bit leftover for another treat down the line…

Help me decide!!!

I was going to say as many others have - “go for it”, but I see you have and see that you love it, so a win, win. Enjoy your bag, it will bring pleasure for many years, I’m sure.

Jack80 · 19/10/2024 20:30

Buy it and treasure it, it will make you smile 😃

Carnationstreet7 · 19/10/2024 20:35

I would buy it rather than ' fritter 'it on smaller bits and pieces

Outnumbered99 · 20/10/2024 09:08

DO IT OP!!! And come back when you have :-)

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 20/10/2024 09:09

That looks like a timeless piece OP - go for it if you love it!!

Pillowfights · 20/10/2024 09:12

Reader, she bought the bag!

See op's last post of 5th October - and loves it

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 20/10/2024 09:14

Sorry l only saw the op🙈

Itsbaloney · 20/10/2024 09:51

The only thing that would put me off is the logo on the flap is leather covered and I’d worry it would get easily damaged - more so than brass hardware..

Skybluepinky · 20/10/2024 10:22

If u love it get it.

Picklelily99 · 20/10/2024 14:46

Personally, I think it's hideous! The colour, the style, the chain, the daft clasp? It's for people with more money than good taste. There you go. *if you don't want a differing opinion to your own, you really shouldn't ask. BUT, if YOU like it, BUY it! You can't argue about taste, and if you love it, and adore it, and desire it, you will be the HAPPIEST girl alive when you POSSESS it!

Isometimeswonder · 20/10/2024 15:10

1 item so you cherish the memory of the gift. If you know what mean

Mummamap · 20/10/2024 16:08

I love Marc Jacob’s bags and they last really well. I have a small or Ange leather tote and a large camel Sac. They both look smart enough to take out or casual enough for a trip to the shops.
if you love it buy it. You need to splurge sometimes.

NPET · 20/10/2024 16:53

Looks good. Personally wouldn't match my "outfits" (would need to be black or white) but nice bag!

TheHoneyMonster82 · 20/10/2024 19:43

I love it. Came to say Buy The Bag but see I’m weeks too late.

Efrogwraig · 26/10/2024 19:42

Buy it!

sassyclassyandsmartassy · 26/10/2024 19:56

Do you love if? Will you use it lots?

These types of neutral colours are great for investment pieces as it will go with lots of things!

if the answer the to the first 2 questions are yes, do it!

morningtoncrescent62 · 26/10/2024 21:53

I hope you and the bag are very happy together, OP! It sounds like the perfect thing to have spent your gift card on - something you love, but wouldn't otherwise have been able to afford/justify spending that kind of money on. Enjoy it.

NaneePolly · 26/10/2024 23:05

If you like it, get it. It’s your gift.

DisabledDemon · 26/10/2024 23:37

It's your gift card - you do what you like! But as others have said, it'll outlast perfume.

KlaraSundown · 26/10/2024 23:45

It's gorgeous and will go with loads! And will outlast your clothes!

LLresident · 27/10/2024 12:26

Yes get it.

Cazzoh · 27/10/2024 17:44

If you are doubting spending that money, you wouldn't be asking our opinion otherwise, what you could do is wait until the January sales. If its still available then, you could maybe get it cheaper. I have done sililar with a designer bag recently and hummed and ahhed about it. A few weeks later it was in the sale. image how annoyed you will be if that was the case.

It does remind me of a similar thing with a bag (not as expensive as this one) that I had in the early 90s, about a designer one in Debenhams. I use to walk through Debenhams in town as a cut through to work and walked past the bag section (my passion). The bags were always chained up - mainly because they were near the exit I think. There was this one Jasper Conran bag, small, patent leather, all chained up. It was expensive at the time for me and definitely more than I would ever budget for a bag. I use to walk past and stroke this bag and dream.

After doing a load of overtime one month, I walked past the bag and noticed it was unchained (no I didn't grab it and run), I decided that the fates had all aligned - I had money, it was unchained, it was a sign. So I bought it, I still have it today (30 odd years later). Hardly use it as its too small for practical everyday use. But every now and again, I get out the "Jasper" (as we all nicked named the bag) and dust it down and it reminds me of that thrill of buying my "expensive" bag.

UnpropitiousNightmares · 28/10/2024 00:02

Buy the bag!

teawamutu · 28/10/2024 09:01
