Do people actually wear these outfits?

I’m seeing lots of “autumn outfits” on social media like the attached eg a mini skirt with knee high boots. Generally no tights.

how do people pull this off?

I’m in my 20s and with toned legs, but feel like a mini skirt and knee high boots are like opposing seasons and it doesn’t look right on me. Eg it felt “too hot” to wear an outfit like that during summer due to the massive boots, yet “too cold” to wear an outfit like that now due to the skirts being super short. I also just feel like I’m not sure where I’d wear this to, the combination seems too dressy for daytime but too casual for nights out!

generally I have a hard time styling boots like this - is it certain items/fits that work best together? I’m short which doesn’t help.

This is my autumn/winter wardrobe but with tights, although usually 10 - 15 denier tights so they don't necessarily provide heat. I wear a warm coat when outside for warmth. I would wear it going shopping at the weekend, or going off doing something on a Sunday, or our for lunch or dinner.

If you've got the legs and are under 25 years old, go for it.

I wore clothes like that in my 20s all the time but usually with tights as the boots would rub my feet without.

And I've always been solid of leg so don't look like the model, my legs are more like the legs in the photo. I'd still wear a mini skirt aged 49.

I wear the skirt (not as short, but above or to the knee) with the boots + knitted tights. Always get lots of compliments.

What's with the under 25 rubbish??

I love a knee high boot and skirt combo. Not generally too short a skirt (but if you get away with it, do it). Tights if its cold, bare legs if not. Go-anywhere outfit in my eyes. And I’m defo not under 25, lol, and I don’t care!

Sometimes I even do an over-the-knee boot with a mini skirt, no tights..... 😲

I work in london and see a fair few (very young) women wearing bare legs and mini skirts recently. It looks ok until you're behind them on the escalator and are faced with their vulvas.

In the real world most people don’t wear short skirts, bare legs and chunky boots because it’s not particularly practical. Maybe on a night out you could do it.

Tights make it far more accessible

20 yr old DD wears knee highs, bare legs and minis.

i don’t think it’s totally impractical, i remember wearing a very similar look 22 years ago.

I still wear knees highs and minis but the knee highs tend to be flat and I much prefer tights in my 40-something thighs

I think I wore this occasionsly as a student but never with an ultra short skirt. I like boots with long skirts though and wear shorter skirts with tights.

I've been in London, New York, Chicago & LA in the last two months and have seen loads of shorts or minis with flat knee boots or cowboy boots. It looks great, but it is hard to imagine it would be an appealing thing to pull on on a British winter morning.

Net-a-Porter is starting to show lots of that look with sheer black tights at the moment, so maybe they're making a comeback.

I am a Londoner & haven’t seen loads of bare legs with very short minis & boots. You will always see a few at night but this is true at any point.

Realistically though ultra minis aren’t common in the workplace or practical with bare legs if it’s cold and you are running about after the dc in the park so there will be less opportunity for someone older to wear this look.

I think the skirts in pretty women were longer!

I used to wear little Lycra hot pants underneath mine.

I wear wool mini skirts (as in mid thigh, shorts underneath) and knee high boots and I'm 50, I've been wearing them since the 90's. Glad I'm now in fashion. Think more tweed than high fashion though

My daughter wears outfits like this in Autumn, she's 19. It's not bare legs it's sheer tights, I wear the same but with a heavier denier.
