ASOS can bugger off

They’ve sent me an email saying I’m part of a small number of customers who frequently return things and from now on can only get free returns if I keep £15 worth of stuff.

ive gone through my past orders and since 2021 I have returned 4 items, 2 pairs of shoes neither of which fit as their own brand shoes seem to be too narrow for me and I’ve now given up on them, one very ill fitting, thin material jumpsuit and a shirt which literally came down to my knees and was so crumpled i actually tried ironing it before sending it back and couldn’t iron the creases out.

ive kept loads more than I’ve sent back inc expensive trainers and £100 handbags.

if their policy is no free returns then that’s fine but I’m annoyed at being singled out like this when I don’t think it’s warranted. I assume lots of other people are getting similar emails? I feel I’m being gaslit by ASOS! 😁. Especially when their shit quality stuff is often the reason for a return! Could understand it if I was doing mass hauls and sending most of it back.

I don't object per se to ASOS charging for returns, a lot of retailers are going this way now particularly as sales volumes are down due to cost of living crisis so their profits are squeezed.
But how very dare they say I'm part of a small group of customers who are doing excessive returns. I'm really not. The cheek of it!

I haven't had an email, but had it as a pop up when I just logged in. £15 for premier customers, and £40 for non premier I think? I've ordered a lot, and kept and also refunded a lot. EG I ordered a pair of trainers that I've had before, and for some reason the size wasn't quite right, so I returned, and reordered a different size. I'll just have to place multiple size orders now so that something fits, rather than usually trying just one size and hoping for the best. Really annoying, and tbh I use ASOS more than other places because the returns are so easy and free. if they aren't any more, then I may as well go elsewhere...

happy you got your refund OP, they’re being funny with me about it by saying I’ve used next day delivery too much to be eligible for a refund too. What did you say to them to get them to budge?

I’d be careful about making a new account because they’ll likely be able to link all your accounts together. Even if you delete your account, they’ll still have a record of your personal details

They just said that’s what I was entitled to. But I agree the pro rata should be about the amount of time left to run, not how much it’s been used.

i could use a different name (i actually have id in two surnames, as use a different name for work), a different email address and a different card. Only thing the same would be physical address and more than one person at a house can have an asos account. Dd has one already to this address. Might just use her account!

I got the same email! I try not to buy much nowadays so I was surprised

Purplecatshopaholic · 08/09/2024 22:48

I got the same email. Bloody raging - the cheek! I barely buy anything from them , and don’t return much when I do. Or rather did - they can fuck off.

Hi OP, they gave me a 50% refund in the end on the subscription!

I'd be intrigued to know how many this "small number" of people is and what that equates to percentage wise.

Wonderlust233 · 09/09/2024 22:01

I got the same email! I buy a lot and keep about 60-70%. I'm going to the high streets from now on. These companies lure us in with the "free returns"

fitzwilliamdarcy · 10/09/2024 10:57

I got that email too. I do return a lot, but only because ASOS' sizing is absolutely bonkers (I've been able to comfortably wear an 18 and unable to get a 28 on, within the same ASOS range) and the quality is massively variable. I find it difficult to shop on the high st as the shops that do cater for plus size will usually have the plus size only available online.

I don't mind paying for returns, in principle, but it's the way they're vaguely suggesting I'm stealing from them or something for just wanting to have clothes that fit me!
