ASOS can bugger off

CormorantStrikesBack · 06/09/2024 16:45

They’ve sent me an email saying I’m part of a small number of customers who frequently return things and from now on can only get free returns if I keep £15 worth of stuff.

ive gone through my past orders and since 2021 I have returned 4 items, 2 pairs of shoes neither of which fit as their own brand shoes seem to be too narrow for me and I’ve now given up on them, one very ill fitting, thin material jumpsuit and a shirt which literally came down to my knees and was so crumpled i actually tried ironing it before sending it back and couldn’t iron the creases out.

ive kept loads more than I’ve sent back inc expensive trainers and £100 handbags.

if their policy is no free returns then that’s fine but I’m annoyed at being singled out like this when I don’t think it’s warranted. I assume lots of other people are getting similar emails? I feel I’m being gaslit by ASOS! 😁. Especially when their shit quality stuff is often the reason for a return! Could understand it if I was doing mass hauls and sending most of it back.

It's interesting that companies continue to make silly decisions like this - since Amazon increased its minimum spend in order to qualify for free delivery, I find I order a lot less and am more considered over purchases. They are probably saving me money because I'm not shopping so frequently and only buying what I genuinely need and cannot buy from a shop.

saturnspinkhoop · 07/09/2024 10:22

Maybe I’ve misread how it works, but I wonder if people will order far more from ASOS to try to ‘guarantee’ reaching the threshold of items they want to keep. This could increase returns.

That did cross my mind as a possible option. 😂. Sadly I think they’ll just keep bumping the minimum amount up.

I've just had the email - need to spend £40!

I don't buy much from ASOS any more - can't remember the last time I ordered anything.

I did return some shoes but none of them fitted 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've deleted the app and won't be using them again.

TheOccupier · 07/09/2024 16:04

I've had the email too, with the £40 limit. I haven't ordered from them in months - probably do a couple of orders a year and I have returned most of what I've bought from them but only because their sizing is unpredictable and most of it was shit quality. I'll also be deleting my account.

567and · 07/09/2024 16:09

I’ve had the email saying I’m not affected by the changes, but it doesn’t make she’s as I’ve sent back practically everything I’ve ordered from there in the last couple of years, due to the quality and fit being so poor.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 07/09/2024 16:11

I can see the reasoning behind it. BUT they need to take some responsibility, better photos, better fit items, better quality and your less likely to return.
if the sizes are reliable you’ll know your an 8 not a 10 with them and not have to order both to see

Goatblu · 07/09/2024 16:36

I've had the email saying that they're making changes to their fair use policy but that it doesn't affect me.

That's good because I can't remember the last time I used ASOS.

anon2022anon · 07/09/2024 18:14

Anyone else tempted to do an order and a return every day until it kicks in? Or just me feeling petty?

IDontHateRainbows · 07/09/2024 18:50

Asos have shot themselves in the foot. Now I feel like a criminal just because I can't tell in advance whether shoes will fit me so may order a few pairs and see.

I'll be taking my business elsewhere now.

CremeDeSudo · 07/09/2024 18:58

I've had the £15 limit! How much do they charge for deliveries/returns if you're not a premier customer?

IDontHateRainbows · 07/09/2024 19:10

Does anyone else feel like they are on the 'naughty list'?

Double naughty as I've got tye £40 limit not the £15

And I rarely buy from them anyway!

IDontHateRainbows · 07/09/2024 19:11

CormorantStrikesBack · 06/09/2024 17:06

the majority of my orders don’t reach £40 which I guess is why they haven’t set me a £40 target. I’m going to contact customer service and ask for a refund on my asos premium (which the email said I can have, pro rata) . I’ll probably only be entitled to £3 back but it’s the principle and i certainly won’t be ordering from them again,

I'm doing this too as a protest vote

Think it’s just under £4 for postage and then the same again for a return. No way am i risking paying £8 because something of theirs is shit or doesn’t fit. Dd just told me to open a new account with a different email address but I’d probably be in the same boat in a while.

Theyve lost my custom, I mean I’m sure they’ll survive that loss. 😁

OP posts:
Restinpeacefavouritecoathanger · 07/09/2024 19:16

Possibly your individual custom won't send them qwaking in their boots but collectively they only need a small number to go stuff it and they will struggle. Heard they are struggling already.

onfiree · 07/09/2024 19:19

I’ve got 50% of my subscription left but they don’t seem like they’re going to give me the refund advertised

It's absolutely making me spend less with certain retailers. I find brands like Adidas really good for consistent sizing, so will continue to order from them. M&S it's still really easy to return so will keep buying.

But companies like New Look, H&M, Next, it's like trying to pick the winning lottery numbers. When my Next unlimited delivery runs out, I won't be renewing it.

endlesscraziness · 07/09/2024 19:24

I had this email yesterday too. Annoying as their sizes seem all over the place

Mooneywoo · 07/09/2024 19:30

Mine was £40 too!
I haven’t even made that many orders in the last 2 years so it must be on the proportion of returns. But between pregnancy, PP and awful quality there were a lot of misses on the orders I did make.
To be honest I was shopping less and less at asos and this will probably put me off in future.
I don’t actually think it’s a “small” number of accounts either.

Mooneywoo · 07/09/2024 19:33

This!

They used to have reviews available for things and posters would include pictures, often the reviews were things like “awful quality, so see through, not worth the purchase 3/10” but I find the reviews aren’t available on most items.

H&m are really good for posting their online reviews so you can gauge if something is likely to fit well before deciding to order it. ASOS is such a stab in the dark.

IDontHateRainbows · 07/09/2024 19:34

There are some retailers that charge for delivery and return, eg House of Fraser, but they have some proper bargains on there so I factor this in. Eg just ordered a padded winter coat for my son reduced to £15, I ordered 2 sizes and will send one back so I know it's really £25. But I have made an informed decision to spend this and realize the real price is the item price plus delivery/ return and its still worth it.

Whereas ASOS have sprung this on me and made me feel like I've done something wrong with the 'small group of customers ' bullshit, so they can do one.

Ratner moment!

YourTwinklyDeer · 07/09/2024 19:38

I’ve had this email but £15 limit, I’m not surprised because I do return a lot but I probably keep £15 worth of stuff on each order. It’s crap because high street shops are dire now so online seems the only option but retailers are making this less appealing.

onfiree · 07/09/2024 19:48

I had the email saying the changes will NOT impact me. And also the email saying I am impacted. Weird

onfiree · 07/09/2024 19:49

Edited

The limit just depends on if you are subscribed to their delivery service. If you are the limit is £15. If not, the limit is £40

That’s really shit when their email said you can have it back. Maybe they’ve been inundated and can’t affect to refund everyone? Ultimately they’ve changed the terms and conditions when we signed up to premium so we are entitled to a refund.
