Rain coats

Hi, I'm looking for stylish yet functional raincoats.

Please no seasalt or similar recommendations as I think they look like unflattering sacks. I have a protected species one but find the collar quite huge, however it is fitting so I like that bit.

I am a petite size 8-10 so prefer something with a bit of shape, not sack like.

@BrotherUrgh yes wolf and badger is what came up when I searched as I'd never heard of rainsisters before!

Really good. i am 4foot 10 and a size 14-16, I went for the petite xl and honestly it fits me like it was made for me, I find a lot of coats tight around the old bingo wings, but this fits well without pinching.

Is it actually waterproof or light shower proof?

PopcornPoppingInAPan · 07/09/2024 13:13

I love love love my Rainsisters coat, really well made and properly waterproof. definitely not sack-like! But if a splurge though.

I should have read the full thread! Buy direct from Rainsisters, it was much cheaper than Wolf and Badger.

I love my hobbs trench coat. They sell it in petite sizing. I have two and they’ve lasted years.

It says showerproof, but I walk 2 miles home from work in the 2nd rainiest place in Wales and i've never been wet.

My Petit Bateau raincoat has been going strong for years and still gets compliments. I bought it on sale

I have a secondhand from Vinted Lululemon raincoat but in the market for something in a different colour. I tried a nice one on today in M&S of all places, from their goodmove range (Lulu/Sweaty Betty copy) but didn’t have my size in store and it’s sold out online. I too have tried the Protected Species in the past but didn’t like the collar and wasn’t that keen on the silky texture. Other rain coats are either too shapeless, too rustly sounding, or just too drab and old fashioned. Or too branded. I don’t like loud prints and colours either 😆

Jaxhog · 07/09/2024 14:28

Another vote for Rain Sisters! I bought one in the sale and it is fabulous!! This range would suit you.

What’s the sizing like on the rainsisters coats?

I'm 5'5" size 18/20 with a chubby tum, and the 1XL fits like a glove. If it doesn't fit, they will exchange for one that does. The style is quite fitted but looks tailor made. Gorgeous!

minipie · 07/09/2024 14:42

I like the Rainsisters style and applaud them for coming up with a decent looking fitted raincoat. BUT I feel like their retro style will only look right with a skirt and delicate shoes rather than my usual autumn/winter wear of jeans and clumpy boots. All the photos are of it being worn with full hair and make up and smart ultra feminine clothes underneath.

Anyone seen any pics of a rainsisters coat with baggy jeans and boots?

I can't believe their markup! I bought mine direct.

I wear mine with new rock boots, or my work trainers, these are off my door cam so aren't the best quality.

Rainsisters seem to do a shorter version now (bum/ top of thigh length) that would probably look ok with trousers.

Lisamari99 · 08/09/2024 14:02

Ilse Jacobsen have nice rain coats

CocteauTwin · 08/09/2024 14:48

I found a fully waterproof coat yesterday in Tesco of all places, for the bargain price of £59.50. It's black, hooded, with a drawstring waist, double zip and a quilted lining. No photos as F&F stuff isn't online, but definitely worth a look in store if you're on a budget. I'm 5ft 3ins and thought it might be too long, but it looks great on.

Can I ask what size you are and what size coat you got?

DIdriksons are brilliant - I've got an A line style one that I can wear dog walking but is smart enough to throw on over work clothes if it's pissing it down. It's also got the best hood on it that I've ever had on a coat.

If you're feeling splurgy though then look at rain sisters. They are raincoats of beauty.

Hi SpanielPaws, would you know which style of Didriksons coat you have?
Your description sounds exactly what I'm looking for, especially if it has a hood that actually works! Thank you in anticipation!

canwestopwiththenameshaming · 09/09/2024 15:48

Another vote for Rainsisters here. I love mine and yes I feel amazing sashaying in it too Grin I'm 5'2", size 10/12 with big boobs and have a medium petite. Fits brilliantly and I wear it with jeans all the time too! It survives intense west coast of Scotland rain almost daily so well worth the money in my opinion. Best coats around!

Whousestypewritersanyway · 09/09/2024 15:54

Another vote for the Lululemon Rain Rebel. I have walked my dog in torrential rain and stayed dry as a bone underneath. You can cinch in the waist for a more fitted look. It is perfect imo.

Oh I love this, this is what I'm looking for. So feminine fitting and fits the bill. I love that it's reversible with just the right shade of each color. What size did you go for?
