Hi, I am looking at smartening myself up and part of that is to start wearing accessories. I am not one for a load of bangles and costume jewellery, but like the idea of a new nice pieces that I can wear every day.

So if you don't mind sharing, would you mind telling me what jewellery you wear every day?

Thanks.

Currently I wear my platinum wedding band and engagement solitaire (cleaned monthly), silver rings on right little finger. 2 silver bangles which are both detailed and have meaning to me. Diamond stud earrings (always kept clean and fresh). Necklace of some sort, usually fine silver with just a simple pendant. Leather watch with mother of pearl face which seems to work with every outfit. Notonthehighstreet has some interesting jewellery retailers for day to day bangles and necklaces.

JenaWren · 05/09/2024 04:39

OP do you think of jewellery as part of you or part of your outfit?

I’m the former. I always wear the same thing - diamond studs and a diamond ring. I spent most of my budget on those 2 pieces.

My friend is the latter. She has many more pieces but each costs less.

it’s worth working out what you will actually wear to give you an idea of how best to use your budget. I might have tried getting a few pieces to accessorise but I never wear them.

Row23 · 05/09/2024 06:09

I like what pp said about jewellery being part of you or your outfit. I’m the former and wear the same pieces every day - wedding and engagement rings, a small ring on my right hand, stud earrings (and various other ear piercings), simple silver bracelet and a thin silver necklace with my sons initial on. They’re all fairly delicate and I don’t take anything off (except the rings), so I never have to think about putting jewellery on.
Then if there’s an event or a meal etc I will usually change my earrings to something more fun.

Stressedgiraffe · 05/09/2024 06:16

I wear the same things everyday. Wedding rings, eternity ring and engagement ring on my left hand. Then on my right my grandma engagement ring and grandpa signet ring. I have a diamond tennis bracelet and gold huggy earrings. And my samsung watch.
I don't change my jewellery

RosesAndHellebores · 05/09/2024 06:18

Brilliant point about part of you or part of an outfit. I'm the former too.

Stud earrings
Simple necklace
Classic watch
Engagement, eternity and wedding rings

If we have an evening event the necklace and earrings are switched for dresser ones

summersways · 05/09/2024 09:34

Wedding and engagement ring along with a simple gold necklace. On the hunt for a pair of simple gold hoops/huggies for earrings.

Have bought loads of jewellery over the years (not the expensive kind) but fell out of the habit of wearing it. So now trying to start again with a very simple approach that becomes automatic and I may then branch out again into wearing different types. Favourite place at the moment is Monica vinader

Caffeineosaurus · 05/09/2024 09:47

Also can I derail and ask what else is on your list of things you're doing to smarten up a bit? I need some inspiration x

head2toeinuniqlo · 05/09/2024 10:11

@Caffeineosaurus I threw out all of my clothes and started again. I can highly recommend this if you have about 500 quid to replace everything.

I am going for a classic but modern look.

Uniqlo basics in neutral colours
Beige trench coat
Air & Grace trainers
Kikki K backpack for everyday
Christian Dior book tote bag for weekends.

Just looking at adding some jewellery to complete the look.

For low key day to day I wear my wedding ring ( white gold and small diamonds like an eternity ring.)

I always wear earrings . These are usually small silver chunky hoops or large pearl studs. I do have some diamond studs but don't wear them often.

I have some more dangly earrings in silver with pearls and semi precious stones like aquamarine. I choose these to tone in with my clothes.

I wear a silver necklace or fine chained silver with a semi precious stone. I also have a diamond pendant (stone is about 0.5 carat.)

Thin silver bracelet and a chunky silver bangle.

The 'trend' now as I see it is layered bracelets- like 3/4 on one wrist in fine chains or tiny beads. And delicate necklaces .

Monica Vinader is very popular with the young women I know (aged 30-40)

Monica Vinader but overpriced IMO.
You can get the same for less, mainly in big dept stores like J Lewis.

Tattletail · 05/09/2024 11:02

Everyday is my wedding and engagement ring then one of my necklaces.

I love necklaces from wolf and moon, Anni Lu, and Alex monroe.

Would wear earrings too but recently the holes have closed up (why?!)

loropianalover · 05/09/2024 11:03

I tried some really fun pieces by Nadine Ghosn recently.

Dr13Hadley · 05/09/2024 11:11

I wear the same every day, my wedding and engagement rings which are white gold, small silver hoops in my ears that I don't take out and a silver chain which I rarely take off. It does get grubby though so I have to clean it now and again. That's all. I don't have the time, money or inclination to wear different jewellery every day but I do appreciate it can really bring an outfit together and would like to get on board with having more pieces to change it up now and again.

Parker231 · 05/09/2024 11:19

I wear gold stud earrings every day and a watch which is very special to me as I inherited it my grandmother.
Necklaces and bracelets annoy me so don’t wear them. I don’t like rings so didn’t have an engagement or wedding ring.

Cattery · 05/09/2024 11:23

Gold wedding band. Eternity ring. Smallish diamond studs x

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 05/09/2024 11:40

I'm another who wears signature jewellery, rather than jewellery to match an outfit.

Diamond earrings
Gold, mother of pearl and nacre signet ring
Tiffany diamonds by the yard bracelet
Watch

Occasionally, I swap out the earrings for a different pair, either drop pearls, or a pair of vintage Chanel. My diamonds earrings also have a diamond jacket I add when I'm going somewhere particularly fancy.

HerewegoagainSS · 05/09/2024 11:47

I like very simple jewelry.

I have my ‘russian rings’ three hoop necklace or my gran’s gold chain (depending on what I am wearing, my tiny gold crucifix bracelet, and my sapphire ring. And either my small hoop or knot earrings.

Ilovemyshed · 05/09/2024 11:51

Watch (currently fitbit)
Wedding and engagement rings
Earrings, studs or large flat gemstones, to match what I am wearing or neutral like a plain pearl or moonstone.

I only ever wear necklaces or bracelets as a dress up item.

Am now very interested in air and grace trainers!

I spent one year losing weight and am now focusing on finding my new style. I think it is going to be (if I can manage it!) more elegant and timeless. My hope is that I spend a bit more per item but overall spend less.

I am really starting again with my wardrobe and it's hard to- don't have the basics to build on so having to try really hard to avoid getting distracted by a cool top I like etc as I don't have the trousers etc I can wear it with.

Also love the Dior book bags but worry they might be uncomfortable to carry around. Have eyed up the Chloe woody as a summer bag for the last couple of years but never took the plunge because I didn't feel I had the wardrobe to justify it - hoping by summer next year this will have changed!

head2toeinuniqlo · 05/09/2024 22:39

Thanks everyone, some good ideas here and some brands that I had never heard of before.

I wear an opal gold necklace and a gold band ring.

Occasionally I put a different pendant on the necklace.

DancingNotDrowning · 06/09/2024 13:17

I wear different every day, but I have lots jewellery most of it antique, so I like to to try and wear it all regularly.

today I’m at home so I’ve got platinum and diamond engagement, eternity and wedding ring on, white gold Rolex, a silver Alex Monroe necklace and some sapphire earrings.

I like stacking bracelets and have a collection of Cartier, Tiffany and antique bangles in white gold and yellow gold which I change up regularly.

Ive got 9 piercings in my ears so I wear lots of teeny tiny studs and huggy style earrings if I’m dressing casually but for work i tend to favour a more formal single pair of studs/hoops.

but I definitely consider jewellery as part of my outfit, although I’d never considered the self v outfit perspective before. Interesting

mondaytosunday · 06/09/2024 13:53

I used to have a lot of fun picking out the right accessories for my outfit, then became a mother and stopped going to the office so couldn't be bothered!
What doesn't come off is my engagement and wedding ring. I also wear my husband's wedding ring on my thumb (he passed away years ago). I'm type 2 diabetic so wear a medic alert bracelet on one arm and I'm still wearing the summer woven fabric bracelet on the other that my son got me on holiday! Then I wear earrings that match my outfit- red enameled ones today, but most of the time I wear simple silver earrings that go with 99% of my clothes.
