Got mine done today; more expensive than a regular cut but I'm so pleased
Nice not to walk out the salon hating it or having to tie it up or realise it's lopsided

Just wish all hairdressers could cut curly hair!

I didn't like Nuala Morey salon AT ALL. The prices are insane and although the cut was fine the way she styled / dried my hair was terrible, I had to immediately go home and re wash.

There's a weird vibe in that place. It isn't welcoming.

murasaki · 05/09/2024 15:55

I have total hair envy, it looks wonderful. I have hair that won't quite curl properly and yet won't straighten properly either. I blame the parents 🤣

I've heard a few people say they weren't happy with the cut or styling

@spikeandbuffy24 your hair is gorgeous!! I had mine cut recently with lots of layers as its wavy and bouncy but not gorgeous curls like yours. I too have very fine strands but lots of them, all going very silver these days.

bookworm14 · 05/09/2024 15:59

Looks great OP!

For those looking for a specialist curly hair salon in London, I highly recommend Unruly Curls in Farringdon. I wouldn’t go back to a normal hairdresser now.

Yes I agree completely. I saw Nuala herself a couple of times and the second time she asked who cut my hair the last time -she wasn't impressed when I said it was her 😆
I also didn't find it welcoming - had just assumed it was because I'm old and fat with grey hair 😭

spikeandbuffy24 · 05/09/2024 22:23

I'm definitely happy with the salon, I always feel awkward/out of place in some places and like I'm going to knock everything over or do something wrong Blush (no idea why!)

This was very much a.. hang out, have a chat about products, fuss over the dog etc

For those NI peeps, I recommend Karoline at Trilogy Hair In Belfast.

Aydel · 05/09/2024 22:35

I had my best curly hair cut at Supercuts in Reading! Went in on a whim and the woman who cut my hair was amazing.

@RaspberryBeretxx I can highly recommend Chocolate Velvet Hairdesign/Samantha Bailey. She does some mobile work in Oxfordshire and has a tiny salon in Chalgrove. She's been cutting my hair for a couple of years now and does a great job.

Oh amazing thank you! I’ll look her up 😁.

MouseofCommons · 06/09/2024 08:01

Your hair is amazing.
Mine isn't that curly so I'm not too bothered about a technical haircut. My hair is happy when I splurge on Philip Kingsley products.

MushMonster · 06/09/2024 08:06

I cut my DD's curly hair.
Oh my! It is so difficult! She used to have it long, which I had the hand off.
I cut it neck length, rather shorter than usual. She hated it! The curls were beautiful and bouncy and formed at the back, crown and front- she has different curl strength around her head, the crown is more wavy than curly. But just over the ears, it went straught on me! No idea why! She refused to pin it back or let me cut it on dry curled hair. Fast forward a week and it was curling again and matching the length of the rest of her hair.
Now it looks really good.
Please, be patient with the hairdresser, curls are gorgeous, but they are temperamental!
Same happens to me though. I am wavy and my hair goes plain straight for a few days after cutting it, no idea why.

Thank you @WhiteCatmas I'm moving back to NI next year so that's great to have a recommendation.

Thank you, that's good to know. I've actually persuaded my partner to come with me and then sit in a cafe and wait while I have my appointment because I'm nervous about the area!

Laughing at 'normal person' - are there any on MN?! lol

But, the schlep is soooooo worth it isn't it! And lucky it isn't needed that often! x

Exactly! I only go once a year or so. This is me after my recent cut. Much more Hagrid when I’ve dried it myself.

Curly haircut was worth the money!

Is Karoline a curly hair specialist? I can't find anything on their website but desperately need a trim!

Just dropping in a very strong recommendation for Trepadora in Berkshire.

Almost life-changing.

The curl by curl cut. Very expensive. But very worth it.

I just came on to recommend them too.
I feel so pampered after going & although it's expensive I don't go nearly do often as I used to.

@mzdemeanour Does she cut it curl by curl? Although I love Trepadora I'm happy to try elsewhere & I have a friend who lives in Chalgrove

Roundaboot · 04/01/2025 18:53

Thirding Trepadpora. It's such a lovely experience and a great cut. Pricey though!
I use Kurl Salon in Reading now and just get a cut with no styling to keep it cheaper! I always get a great cut and it lasts way longer than when I used to go to a normal salon

Eachpeachpears · 04/01/2025 18:54

RaspberryBeretxx · 04/09/2024 15:29

Ooh, it looks amazing! I keep wondering whether to get one. If anyone has had a good one in the Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire area I'd love to hear where!

At the moment, I cut my own hair as it's so pointless going to normal hairdressers. They always say I need " long layers to drag the curl down" so they basically put in no layers and I end up looking like a frizzy christmas tree!

Blow hair in Tewkesbury are all curly cut trained but go to Izzy, she's she curly cut expert and she's brilliant

AngelicaSchuyler444 · 04/01/2025 19:33

Any other Belfast recommendations?
