Anyone else looking forward to getting into their Autumn clothes again?

I'm not a hot weather person at all and I can't bloody wait to get my jumpers and boots out again. Any looks that you think will be particularly prevalent this A/W?

OP posts:

Ha ha, didn't really get the summer clothes out! This summer was dreadful apart from a couple of days! (Ok not quite jumper weather, but not needed sandals or shorts much)

theduchessofspork · 02/09/2024 21:54

Well no - I love spring and summer, and hate the darkness of winter… but also Yes, because better clothes are one of the compensations of the dark and cold I reckon.

I am not very fashion forward, but there seems to be a lot of texture - tweed, velvet, cord (still), big jumpers, lots of burgundy/wine colours. I presume all this is some kind of comfort dressing in dire times. Also lots of exaggerated silhouettes - shoulder pads, puffed shoulders and sleeves (still), big puffy coats, big puffy skirts, wide trousers (still). More sparkle and sequins that you’d normally get so early in autumn, so a bit of party as the world ends as well.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/09/2024 22:26

I vacuum packed my summer dresses today - some of them unworn from last year because it’s been so crap here.

I love knitwear and have a few new things waiting to be worn. An olive green cardigan from Sezane, a big navy jumper from ASOS, a camel and black Arket knit I bought in the sale in April and put aside, and I’m waiting on a wine Arket cardi being delivered. I have lovely things waiting to be vacuum unpacked, as well as some fab brown Hush cords from last year I’m excited to wear again. Also looking forward to that spell when leather jackets are perfect and you don’t need a winter coat.

IDontHateRainbows · 02/09/2024 22:32

Much prefer autumn and winter clothes to summer! I won £200 on premium bonds recently and bought some all saints black cowboy boots as a treat, been waiting for it to be suitable weather which it probably now is.

I have a gorgi monsoon patchwork quilted jacket that this time of year is perfect for also. And jumper dresses. I love a good jumper dress.

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 02/09/2024 22:34

Given how many autumn clothes threads there are on S&B right now, I think we can conclude you’re not the only person looking forward to the change of season, @Womblealongwithme. Grin

Suzuki70 · 02/09/2024 22:38

Meeee.
I had to return the Grenson boots I bought this month (they just were not doing it for me) so I'm only getting out last year's stuff but I can't wait to unbag the knitwear in the loft, sell some bits on and replace them. I have some jumpers that have done about 6 winters and I'm sick of the sight of them.
It's not even just jumpers to be honest, just looking forward to some long sleeves.

FGSWhatNow · 02/09/2024 22:39

Getting out the autumn clothes? They never bloody went away this year!

Suzuki70 · 02/09/2024 23:10

It's been warm here in the SW. Not hot, but warm. The differing weather across the UK is currently being discussed over in AIBU 😁

I don't wear boots between April 1 and September 1 anyway. Self-imposed fashion rule.

bevelino · 02/09/2024 23:16

I think my summer dresses and shorts are having a last hurrah this week and next week my trousers and knits will be worn. Summer feels over.

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 02/09/2024 23:18

I honestly don't wear much different in the Autumn compared to Spring and Summer truth be told. (Apart from hot summer days I will wear shorts, but that type of day has been rare this summer.) The weather is not that different from one season to the next in the UK.

Winter I will wear an extra layer or two, maybe a jumper.

Where are you? Lovely and warm in SE, I'm still in shorts as 22 degrees today, summer definitely not over!

ItsMeMaria · 02/09/2024 23:19

I'm in the SE England and we've had pretty decent weather here for a good chunk of the summer. So, I did have a good few weeks of summer clothes. Not sure where everyone else on here is based as I am currently wearing shorts and will be in something else summery tomorrow.

Yes, I am looking forward to autumn clothes. I agree with the pp who said that the nicer clothes in autumn / winter are our compensation for the darker days and colder weather

Not the poster you quoted, but I am in Aberdeen and I don’t think it ever reached 22 the entire summer. Today it pissed it down most of the day at a balmy 15 degrees. I was WFH and stuck the heating on late afternoon!

mynameiscalypso · 02/09/2024 23:26

I'm in London and I looked with horror at the forecast for this weekend - 26 degrees?! I can't wear a lovely snuggly jumper and my boots in that! I've got so many lovely autumn clothes that I'm desperate to wear. I always get grumpy this time of year when the weather doesn't get cold enough, quickly enough.

longdistanceclaraclara · 02/09/2024 23:33

I'm a shorts and flip fllop person as long as I can get away with it with a hoodie/ sweater. In SE, weather has been short but I'm not giving up yet.

Also not the poster you quoted but I’m in Edinburgh - I don’t know if we have hit 22 all summer either. Yesterday was a thick fog all day. Today it’s warmer but only 15 forecast, and down to 7 overnight. Definitely feels like the start of autumn here.

I’m looking forward to wearing DM and Grenson boots, buying a pair of Lanx (currently browsing) and also wearing some of my chunky jumpers. I like autumn dressing, by proper winter it all feels a bit more functional - it’s quite cold here so I feel like I wear a big puffer everyday.

I like the look of some of the textures and colours coming in for autumn, tweed, cord and rich burgundy colours. I’ve seen a lot of olive colours too but it doesn’t suit me.

You what? The summer has been terrible everywhere. I am in the SE..

Precipice · 03/09/2024 08:18

Been warm in this part of the SE!

No, not yet, OP. Apart from summer, I wear the same things all year, just the top layer and shoes change. It's nice to get a change for the summer. I was looking forward to that as I was feeling a bit 'uninspired' by my clothes by early July.

The SE has been lovely for pretty much the whole of August! 22 degrees yesterday, 27 degrees on Sunday! Hardly terrible, as other posters in Scotland have said it's barely reached 20 so we're very grateful down here to have had it so good 👍

TheActualAudacity · 03/09/2024 09:20

Absolutely not. I really dislike bulky clothes, wool jumpers, not being able to fit cardigans under coats and multi layers.

Single layers, dresses and linen all the way for me.

Nw22 · 03/09/2024 09:22

It’s been warm all summer in the nw and it’s goign to be over 25 at the weekend. Very much looking forward to the cooler weather

WeRateSquirrels · 03/09/2024 09:28

Nooooooooo! Hate Autumn/Winter. Will only relinquish my Birkenstocks when I think my toes are at risk of frostbite.

I'm in the SE but have found this summer extremely underwhelming. Still holding out hope for a decent September (September and the first part of October were lovely here last year).

QueenMummyTheFirst · 03/09/2024 09:35

I'm another one who never got the chance to put my autumn clothes away this year. I have so many lovely summer dresses that haven't been worn all year. Last year was crap too so some haven't been worn in two years! I might actually just stick to my summer wardrobe and try to layer up for the autumn.

Yorkshire here. Currently 14 deg and cloudy. Again.

henlake7 · 03/09/2024 13:17

Im really looking forward to it. Given I lost over a 100Ibs I have an entirely new wardrobe Ive never worn to play with....I cant wait!😄
(it pretty much all came from sales or Vinted but its all new to me!).

KeepScrapingBy · 03/09/2024 13:42

Getting a bit bored of summer clothes and sandals but will probably have to keep on wearing them until the end of September or whenever temperatures drop below 18 or so.
