I know I am not the only one like me but I've had the same basic hairstyle all my life and I now would love a change. I just don't know what sort of short style would suit me and I could do with some pointers that I can take to a salon. I joke about having hair that hangs down long like a spaniels ears but that is exactly how I feel it looks as it covers my cheeks. I would love something short round the ears to get rid of the length and have the top cut feminine and quite short.
I have seen some styles I like but I have not posted them as I would like to see what you say rather than me influence you with my ideas, especially as I don't know what would suit me!!
It is a big decision and it would be a help to have some opinions.....
Thanks
S.

You have an oval face so any cut would suit you really. You do have quite a high forehead so I think a fringe of sorts is a must. I think maybe a Claudia Winkleman style cut, hair just skimming your shoulders? Or Trinny Woodhall‘s cut but with a fringe? Looking again, you have high cheekbones so a v short cut might suit you too. Honestly, you could get away with a lot! Lucky you!!

I love it. It has great volume.
You have beautiful bone structure too.

I'd keep the hairstyle and get Dyson airwrap to get some relaxed waves in. It'll also make your hair a little bit more smoother, without losing the volume.

I think you’d look lovely with a cut just below shoulders but with layers and maybe a soft fringe.

You have a lovely face. I'm no expert but I just had a look and I reckon you could try any of these. And the slightly longer ones are not too drastic, so would ease you in gently!

Wow, I wasn't expecting such a quick response. The only thing is I feel I want to go short, I've never had my hair short and I feel ready for a major change, I really want something very different.........

If you want something shorter how about something like this? Search Pinterest for mid length or short hairstyles.

I'd go for a gradiated bob with side swept layers at the front. You might have to grow your fringe out a bit to achieve it. I'm not keen on the one you have posted above, sorry. Don't like the colour or the spiky bits on top.

That looks very dated. I'd go for longer layers.

I’d say that’s a bit old fashioned. Why not go for a consultation with a salon first?

Soontobe60 · 17/08/2024 13:10

Maybe something like this?

I agree that looks very dated.

BobbyBiscuits · 17/08/2024 13:31

@Soontobe60 that one is lovely. I think I might go for that myself!
OP you have such nice hair and a great shaped face/jaw. So short would definitely work.

heldinadream · 17/08/2024 14:40

@SauvignonSarah I think you need a softer style than the one you posted. I agree that last one from @Soontobe60 is probably on the right lines. Will suit your face better.
But you should definitely do it! Worst comes to worst you just grow it again.

PuppyMonkey · 17/08/2024 15:04

A softer pixie cut like this would look nicer than your spiky hair idea OP.

I hate pixie cuts, especially on older women!

Why not just go shorter before committing to a pixie cut?

Not sure if this will work -

Oh dear, have we got to add pixie cuts to the list of things older women aren’t allowed to have? Grin

Usually on these threads it’s bobs, so I suppose we’ve at least moved on a bit.

People do love to put others into a box, don’t they! 😂 Especially if you are ‘older’.

OP, you are gorgeous. How exciting embarking on a new style!
