Plus size interview outfit - where to start?

I have an actual in-person interview coming up. I haven't had one of them in years!

I used to wear trousers suits to interviews, but when I was a bit slimmer. I'm size 24 now and it's really hard to find suits that suit

So, I think I need advice on what else I can wear up and interview. What would you wear?

I'm size 24, with a huge round tum!

Thanks for any help :)

Cos like old lady clothes, @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle

And yes. Such things exist. Speaking as ancient and wildly muttony myself

Nenen · 16/08/2024 07:21

Wow! Thank you for sharing that link. I’m a curvy woman but had never heard of Live Unlimited. Their clothes are just the sort of things I like to wear.

The idea that horrible clothes are suitable for " old ladies" or " old ladies" like horrible clothes is ridiculous.

Ignore all of this unless you’re 80

A cardigan 🙈

Edited

(Ignoring the childish rudeness).

do you not ever wear a cardi? A 30 something colleague was wearing this yesterday and looked great. I have a similar one from Zara but didn’t recommend due to sizing restrictions for the OP.

Karen Millen plus size does a size 24, has some smart workwear and has a sale on...

Loth as I am to recommend M&S I've had some lovely pieces from them recently

Their click and collect service is brilliant for anyone like me who is rubbish at returning unwanted items!

Order for delivery to a store, get everything on and return any you don't like before you leave the store for a recharge back into the credit card you used to pay.

Really easy way to make sure they have the colour/size you want in stock.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 16/08/2024 16:10

The first one looks like a migraine aura. Honestly. I don't often get auras but when I do it's black and white zig zag stripes.

That's not an interview outfit- and not just for that reason.

The dress is nice but I do think it a little loud for an interview.

If you’re uncomfortable with your stomach area, a nice a-line shift dress in a good cut with a blazer over the top would look nice. If it’s an above the knee dress some nice black tights to go with it. I like a mini dress and a long length blazer, a more ‘relaxed’ fit blazer can skim over any lumps and bumps.

Conturve are a website that do excellent shapewear. They sell shorts with built in small areas of boning on the stomach that do wonders. It sounds painful but they are so stretchy and comfortable whilst really smoothing your silhouette. Check out their website, New Look also sell a few bits of their stuff. Only about £15-£20. They def do up to size 26 might do bigger too but generally it’s true to size.

Good luck for the interview!

Agree, I love cardigans! Cropped, midi, maxi, they look great and more easy than stiff tailoring! Don’t know why people still view them as dowdy granny knitted things, there’s lots of modern cardigans now! All my 20 something colleagues wear them at some point or another as well!

Oops, I mean this!

This Seasalt blazer came today and I like it.

I hope those of you who hated the scrunched arms will be pleased to hear they don't come like that, they must have scrunched them for the photos.

I got a couple of shirts too, there's one I really like...

Here's a link to the blazer I got, I have to wait for the trousers though as while Seasalt had sold out of the blazers in my size, likewise Next had sold out of the trousers.

Plus size interview outfit - where to start?

Here's the shirt, also from Next. It has long cuffs which looks nice sticking out of arms of the blazer.

Do you think I can get away with wearing it not tucked in? It's oversized and I have an enormous round tum.

Just got to hope the trousers fit when they arrive from Seasalt!

It's probably unfashionable, but I don't care. Thanks for all your suggestions of lovely dresses but I think I've realised a trouser suit is my comfort zone for interviews.

Now to find some shoes - any suggestions? 😊

Nice outfit! I'd go for chunky-soled loafers. The other choice would be delicate flats, but you're only little and I think the extra height & volume in the loafers will set your outfit off better.

Wishing you the very best in your interview!

AndYesTheWeeDonkeys · 17/08/2024 05:55

Good to hear you’ve found some things you’re happy with!

The Seasalt jacket has a nicer fabric mix (linen / cotton) than the similar, less formal one I linked earlier (cotton / polyester / linen) but it will be essentially this silhouette without the gold accessories? An untucked shirt will be fine if all the elements are neat and well fitting. You need to feel the outfit works for you.

I also think loafers would be a good choice of footwear.

Yes, similar to that I think except the trousers aren't as wide. I'm not sure when they'll arrive, probably sometime in the week. I really hope they work!

I think I'm going to wear it with the cuffs sticking out as I like the way it looks. Like this (but shirt not tucked in!)

hope the trousers fit when they come. I like the shirt.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 18/08/2024 08:43

Great outfit OP! Hope it all fits well and you feel confident/comfortable in it.

Scirocco · 18/08/2024 08:48

That looks great, OP! Good luck with your interview!

EwwSprouts · 18/08/2024 16:06

Love the shirt, really lifts the suit. Good luck!

ExpatAl · 18/08/2024 21:05

I’m a size 20 and wear a lot of Marina Rinaldi, Xandre for work. Marina Rinaldi in particular hangs well.

llamalines · 19/08/2024 15:16

Oh no! The weather forecast for the end of August is hot! 25 degrees in London.

Will I be too hot in this suit?

I will, won't I?!
