So I've bought a couple of pairs of really thin trousers they were in the beach section of primark. And I have a very floaty dress. Am off to the shops in the morning but what colour underwear should I get. White for the white trousers? Or nude? Am clueless I haven't been abroad for many many years and have forgotten how to do this stuff!!!

Nude

FawnFrenchieMum · 09/08/2024 23:41

Nude, white under white shows.

Stopsnowing · 09/08/2024 23:41

My bra lady told me red bras don’t show through white t shirts. She was right.

Fizzadora · 09/08/2024 23:43

Nude, not white with white trousers.
I recall Jayne McDonald once giving this sage advice on one of her many, very enjoyable, cruising TV programmes😊

BunglezippyGeorge · 09/08/2024 23:43

Yep, if they’re white trousers you want to be wearing red underwear. Sounds bonkers but works!

Now going to have to find some big red knickers. Not easy in my size.

DramaAlpaca · 09/08/2024 23:50

Nude, or red even better. Not white.

StormingNorman · 09/08/2024 23:52

Nude for white trousers, although I’m going to buy some red pants now to try that!

Now this is why I love Mumsnet. Full of useful information that nobody would ever tell me in the real world.

Red. Honestly.

MeAgainAndAgain · 10/08/2024 00:38

For all those saying red, does that work for people who have skin as white as milk, not even a hint of a tan?

@patchworkbear @Stopsnowing @BunglezippyGeorge

StarlightLady · 10/08/2024 03:55

Another red vote. The mix of white fabric over them tones it down. Pale pink or leach is another option with similar results.

It’s a thing personal to me, but l just can’t do so called “nude”. I look at myself in the mirror and l look as if l have a cardboard crotch.

Maddy70 · 10/08/2024 04:04

Always skin coloured

Advice for the day walkers amongst us Grin

Greategret · 10/08/2024 07:28

If the white trousers are that thin get nude knickers with the leg bits being really thin with no bulky hems - in fact no hem at all. The best ones just have the thin fabric end with no seam.

I have tried to respond in practical terms up thread, posted in the middle of the night while waiting for an overseas call.

To add now it’s morning, posts like this do tend to baffle me. If your knickers show a bit (maybe different if they are “screaming” at others) all it means is that you have knickers on, which most of us wear most of the time. Yet people wear things wanting to convince the world that they are not wearing any.

Nannyfannybanny · 10/08/2024 08:10

Don't think we're trying to convince anyone we aren't wearing pants, just no one needs to see them. I've got m and s "invisible" pants, and a couple of flesh coloured thongs.

Qwertylife · 10/08/2024 08:11

Red

No - I just don't want my underwear to be prominent.

Bright pink probably won't work. You need a true red.

AncientBallerina · 10/08/2024 08:18

The nude has to match your skin tone though. I have learned this to my cost after my daughter asked me was I wearing black knickers under white trousers 😳 I am very pale. I’ve never tried red but pale pink seems to work well in a bra.

mikado1 · 10/08/2024 08:20

Red did not work for me!! Luckily I checked in the mirror before leaving the house. Nudes for me is failsafe.

Droolylabradors · 10/08/2024 08:21

I wear a plum (one of the mands no seam bras so it's almost a nude plum) coloured bra under a white blouse and it's invisible. Got the advice off here.

But otherwise I wear nude.

bimblingabout · 10/08/2024 09:25

It depends, I think, on whether you want to be able to see them as a layer of the outfit. For example, a sheer black voile dress would look good with a black under slip or black bra and shorts set underneath. And the same for white. But if you want some not to show through then nude to match your skin tone is the option to go for.
