Planning a small registry office wedding followed by food and drinks in a restaurant or pub. Don’t want to look too flamboyant but want to feel special. (Never spent more than £80 on a dress in my life so anything more than that will do the job 😄👍)

Criteria:

  • Budget £100-£250 ish.
  • Not anything from the bridal section and probably not from bridesmaids section either. Probably more “wedding guest”
  • Colourwise - Not white, and not ivory or cream or anything like that. Probably not pastels either, although I do like sage green, dusty rose and coral. Basically just not too “bridey”.

About me:

  • I love black and I love bold colours
  • I’m 36 years old
  • I have medium brown skin and dark hair
  • I’m a size 12 ish, blessed with small waist and big bum 🙏. Small boobs.
  • I’m half Asian and I do like things that look a bit Asian inspired (but not restricted to that!)
  • I like to think of myself as being a bit “alternative” but not too much! Just a little smidge 😊

I like these:

https://farmrio.uk/products/dark-green-guipure-long-sleeve-maxi-dress?_pos=14&_sid=6dfa8d379&_ss=r

https://raishma.co.uk/products/olive-dress?_pos=1&_sid=fb6ce2963&_ss=r

and ok this one is a little flamboyant but I like it
https://raishma.co.uk/products/skye-gown?_pos=2&_sid=a9ea0c5c6&_ss=r

Shoe criteria:

I’m size 7 so big-ish, have bunions and fungal toenails (yay 😂) so needs to be a wide fitting style and closed toe ideally.

Don’t mind flats, wedges or heels of any height. Just as long as they fit, look good (not like some orthopaedic granny shoe) and are comfortable. For these reasons I tend to prefer chunkier styles but open to suggestions.

Thank you!!! ❤️ 🙏

Are you restricted / restricting yourself to a high neck and long sleeves and midi length? Obviously up to you but that sort of dress can end up looking a little heavy (unless obviously bridal).

Would something like this work? It’s over budget but might well be available to rent.

Alemais dress

Two from The Loom Art. Both rather special, but not as winter-y as those you’ve shown. What season will your wedding be in, @TayceOnToast

That first dress is gorgeous @BetsyRegards

I was also on the look out for a non traditional dress and fell in love with the sparkly dresses on needle and thread. We are doing registry office followed by pub so I didn't feel the need to wear a traditional dress and I am the same as you, I love black and really don't enjoy wearing white. Neeedle and thread have a sale on now! I got the dress I was looking at for over a year for £350 down from almost £800.

Oooh, I agree the first one is absolutely gorgeous!

Not sure the 2nd would be any good for showing off a curvaceous behind.

Some amazing dresses here. I like this intl.needleandthread.com/products/english-rose-diamond-ruffle-gown-graphite

I saw a wedding on Twitter earlier - pink floral suit, pink shoes, small floral side clip and small bouquet. Looked funky and amazing!! You do you girl!

You need something a bit different and special but also something you're comfortable with. You can accessorise the plainest dress to make it more as special.

LadyPenelope68 · 06/08/2024 07:56

The Raishma dress in your original link is stunning!
that dress is much nicer and more special than any of the other dresses that have been posted.

KillingMeDeftIy · 06/08/2024 09:18

If you like bold colours check out Sika Designs. It's available in Liberty but the dresses are cheaper if you order direct from their own site. Also Aje but they are more expensive.

Both will have items available on Vinted or eBay too that have only been worn a handful of times.

LoremIpsumCici · 06/08/2024 10:56

Blue or red are also traditional wedding colours,
Blue in British isles
Red in Asia

White is a recent fad (only a couple hundred years old).

XiCi · 06/08/2024 11:13

I think I'd go red, there's a lot of beautiful red dresses around at the moment. I went to a wedding where the bride was in red and she looked absolutely stunning

Isometimeswonder · 06/08/2024 11:46

I wore a sparkly dress from monsoon. Long but not bridey or bridesmaidey.
