Trainers for short runs that look good

I'm going on holiday soon and want to pack light. I'm likely to want to do a few short (5kish) runs but also want some trainers for wearing with shorts/skirts etc. Any recommendations for a single pair that would meet both briefs?

I've got proper running trainers - ASICS - from when I was running longer distances but they're ugly.

I've got Vans which I wear for every day but can't run in them.

Thanks!

Those are funky! Definitely one for the wish list when I need proper running trainers. I'm looking for something a bit plainer in terms of colours really so they'll go with most things. Thanks though

I have some On Cloud trainers that I wear for 5km runs. I've seen people wearing them as day to day wear too.

HonestMistake · 03/08/2024 15:30

These are quite nice from ASICS outlet.

I wear On running shoes too and find them great. I'm not a very stylish person though so I'm not sure if they fit that bill.

Thanks all, I think it's the lululemon ones!

I wear Nike flyknit they’re comfy, light, and have cool colours and I think they look nice!

I have Nike Pegasus in a pale colour for exactly this reason. Super comfy for walking. Look okay with skirts. Nice and bouncy for short runs.

VeryExpensive · 04/08/2024 00:33

Nike Pegasus!

You’d be silly to run 5k in that lululemon shoe it’s got no support it’s for the gym and lifting that’s why the sole is so thin.

Just going to say this! Get proper running shoes!

NetZeroZealot · 04/08/2024 09:45

I agree with the PP. Go to a proper runners' shop and get fitted with proper running shoes.
You may be able to choose from a few different colours.
But you will regret it if you don't.

AltitudeCheck · 04/08/2024 10:47

I'd be wary of running in shoes that aren't running shoes as you risk creating niggles/ injuries. Probably better to miss a few runs and stick to walking while you are away. Unless you're going on a long holiday, missing a week or two of running shouldn't be an issue.

Sleep123 · 04/08/2024 13:15

Nike Pegasus are a fantastic fairly neutral, multi-purpose, super comfy shoe and loads of colour combinations. If you’re less fussy on colour you could likely pick up some cheap 39s (my favourite) and the outlets always have 38s.

Would strongly not recommend the ASICS Gel Kayano range. Bought a pair from gait analysis to correct (very minor) over-pronation and absolutely hate them! Tore my feet up, feel heavy and slow and will take up half your suitcase 😂

Enjoy your holiday!

Have a look on M and M Direct - m and m direct running shoes - they have a good selection of running shoes from a variety of proper brands from £25 to £70+, in a variety of colours and styles. Hopefully something would suit!

I splashed out and got their £10 annual delivery pass as I have a couple of teen boys (one very sports kit mad, the other wants 'normal' non-sports clothes) and I've been really impressed - it gives you next day delivery and although you have to pay a token sum to send things back, it's very handy if you need to get a variety of styles to try and have limited time. Definitely an improvement on dragging them around the shops 😂 and I've suffered mobility problems recently so has been a godsend as it means I don't have to drag myself out to the shops at the moment too!

Hokas are super trendy and are great running shoes.

Editing to add - I like on clouds too, but make sure you try them on as some models run small.

adidas Ultraboost 1.0 Shoes - White | Free Delivery | adidas UK

I love adidas ultraboost for short runs and think they look nice. that have them in all white

Nyancat · 06/08/2024 12:35

I bought these for everyday wear and use them for short runs too. They look sort of similar to the NB ones everyone had, so comfy and look good with shorts/denim skirts etc.

Just to add another voice of caution, you'd be better to either take your usual running shoes or skip the runs when you're on hols, stick to walking. You'd be surprised how much damage you can potentially do in a 5km run in the wrong shoes.

AlarminglyAwful · 07/08/2024 08:30

The runner in me is horrified at the thought of buying trainers based on aesthetics without considering drop, cushioning, toe box width etc.😂
