For parent I should say. No frills, puffs, shirred bodices, cut-outs, or buttons. Must be bra-friendly. Prefer orange, coral, bright pink, deep greens, plain or pattern (no floral spriggs). Hourglass, 10-12, 50. Have long sleeved options but looking for something suitable for a warmer day

Budget?

Clarindage · 29/07/2024 19:25

Sorry, £120ish
Quite like that Lipsy dress, looks potentially a bit sweaty of material?

I don't like the Lipsy dress at all. Here's a selection from Palava and a link to all their dresses. You can filter out the florals. Apart from sale items they are a bit over your budget but they are much nicer material than the Lipsy dress.

Love this

Ooh thanks. Pastels, cut-out backs and buttons definitely out. I do like the Pretty Kitty dresses, and have bought from them previously, but not keen on the fabric.

Good heavens some of the suggestions on here are dire. Hollywood glamour inspired dress for a parent at a graduation. Err no!

I was thinking that. How to stick out like a sore (bright orange) thumb at your kid’s graduation 😯Most parents in my experience are low-key classical, lots of smart dresses with jackets type thing.

Hurr have a lot of dresses in those colours from the likes of Ganni Rixo and Me & Em that you could rent for about half your budget or significantly less.

Mumwithbaggage · 30/07/2024 12:34

Where's the graduation? From my experience I've found people dress very differently at different universities. Plus most of the time parents seem fairly smartly but casually dressed these days - certainly not wedding type attire.

Just been to my Ds graduation and lots of women in summer dresses. Interestingly when my Dd graduated in 2018 & 2019 people were a lot more formally dressed especially men.
Hope you have a fab day OP.

The Palava (great name) dresses are not for me as they would make my massive hips only look even bigger.
Not a fan of shiny fabric.
The linen one is ok, but is something I might wear to work....
There's a ruffle on the Gerard D dress....

Looks much nicer IRL. With espadrille wedges its great.

Clarindage · 30/07/2024 17:48

Never wear black, but I'm sure the M&S is very nice - but shirtdresses are out, no buttons allowed. Like that kind of thing though, could have bought so many this year. Don't like lace or anything asymmetric.
Fussy 😀
