What colour coat and accessories do go with bottle green dress?

I have a wedding in a few months up in the Shetlands, so it will be cold. I have a bottle green dress to wear but I know I will need a warm coat, so probably something woollen. I'm not sure what colour to go for? I don't want black as that it just washes me out, so any suggestions would be welcome. Also, what colour shoes and accessories?

A dark red would be nice.

moleeye · 22/07/2024 22:39

I love gold accessories with green

Galoop · 22/07/2024 22:40

White and gold? You'd have to be careful not to look too much like Christmas

saveforthat · 22/07/2024 22:41

What about a tartan with bottle green in it?

Maising · 22/07/2024 22:41

I'm wearing a bottle green dress for a wedding in November with Rust orange shoes.

gettingolderbutcooler · 22/07/2024 22:44

I have a vibrant pink coat that I wear with my green dress.

minipie · 22/07/2024 22:49

Agree with gold for shoes and bag. I’d look for a cream or camel coat

comeundone · 22/07/2024 22:54

Navy? Depends on how bold you're feeling, and how much you want to use it afterwards. Hot pink or burnt orange could work if you like colour.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 22/07/2024 22:57

Beige, I'd say.

Wahine24 · 22/07/2024 22:58

Russet, plummy purples, terracotta , navy all look good with bottle green, I think the strength of the colour matters and how the textures work together

TizerorFizz · 22/07/2024 23:05

@DeclansAFeckingDream It really depends if you want an ensemble or just a coat. I think a green tweed would be wonderful. Something with flecks of colour in it. Also maybe look at a very pale camel, easy to match with a hat or headpiece. Plus a big shark might help too.

I am never that happy about wearing tartan in Scotland - I feel that’s the perogative of the Scots but tweed or a check is more universal.

I love a deep golden tan, rusty brown, blackberry or claret with bottle green. There are some lovely wool coats in all those colours right now.

@TizerorFizz "plus a big shark might help too"
I'm dying to know what that should have said! X

ArtFartGunkel · 22/07/2024 23:11

Not a real green dress? That's cruel.

Red, white, gold, bronze, silver.

minipie · 22/07/2024 23:12

Maybe the big shark is to keep the very pale camel on its toes…

bungletru · 22/07/2024 23:13

Camel coat
gold accessories

JimberlyJo · 22/07/2024 23:14

Another vote for tartan.

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 22/07/2024 23:19

Depends on your colouring? I'm cool toned and would probably do pewter accessories and a navy coat.

Mairzydotes · 23/07/2024 07:17

Camel, stone or cream .

Emerald accessories

Tan leather bag and footwear. Or silver or gold.

DidntHaveTheLatin · 23/07/2024 07:21

Hope the big shark isn't a day guest.

I agree with some PPs that depending on colouring, camel could work and is also easy to wear afterwards. Terracotta would be lovely (and pleasantly non-Christmassy) as an alternative.

Having said that, I think a navy wool coat goes with most things and is chic for a winter wedding.

Don't be ridiculous.

DidntHaveTheLatin · 23/07/2024 07:36

This always happens when people.mention tartan!

It's not ridiculous to have some concerns about potentially cosplaying as a Scot, especially if you're English, and to want to avoid looking like you've dressed up in a national costume. It's doesn't necessarily mean @TizerorFizz thinks all Scots will be offended, or even that that is a reasonable position - just that she's thinking about how her actions might be perceived. She's not even being prescriptive about it - just giving her opinion. Just because you haven't encountered Scots who'd be offended by it, doesn't mean they don't exist, and you don't have to know that much about the brutally of English actions in Scotland over the years to be able to see that POV.

Wahine24 · 23/07/2024 09:14

Im not getting the camel, beige, stone , cream colours, I think they are all very hard to wear colours/tones I don't think they suit a lot of people (definitely not me!!) I think it they jar against bottle green, but each to their own.

TizerorFizz · 23/07/2024 09:38

Ok everyone! The word was shawl. It’s “corrected” to what came out in the post.

There’s a lot of colour blocking with the same colour now. So a dark green coat is easy! Pale camel is always fashionable and accessorise with green. If you need a coat, no one is seeing the dress for hours! So it’s the coat and accessories that matter.

Of course I’m not saying all Scottish people get offended by others wearing a tartan but it feels an easy suggestion because it’s Scotland. I think I’d look at the Princess of Wales who likes her dark green coats! These examples could be dressed up and plenty more will be in the shops soon.
