What colour coat and accessories do go with bottle green dress?

I have a wedding in a few months up in the Shetlands, so it will be cold. I have a bottle green dress to wear but I know I will need a warm coat, so probably something woollen. I'm not sure what colour to go for? I don't want black as that it just washes me out, so any suggestions would be welcome. Also, what colour shoes and accessories?

I have a vibrant pink coat that I wear with my green dress.

Was going to suggest this - I think pink with green looks fabulous.

As its a wedding I do think a vibrant coloured coat would be fun. If you think that it is potentially a big cost for something you wouldn't get that much wear out of then it is a really good option to rent one - you'd be looking at £40-100 on a site like Hurr that has quite a few bright orange reds and pinks. It also has a rather lovely dark green and cream coat by Mulberry that would cost 4 figures new and is about £100 to rent.

@DeclansAFeckingDream It really depends if you want an ensemble or just a coat. I think a green tweed would be wonderful. Something with flecks of colour in it. Also maybe look at a very pale camel, easy to match with a hat or headpiece. Plus a big shark might help too.

I am never that happy about wearing tartan in Scotland - I feel that’s the perogative of the Scots but tweed or a check is more universal.

I'm from Glasgow, so this could work for me! 🤣 Some fantastic ideas here, thank you so much.

Does anyone think this could work with bottle green or is it a bit too dark?

I actually like the idea of a bright pink or a tweed though.

Depending on the dress style and fabric, I’d be tempted to go with a dark green faux fur jacket / coat - I think bottle green can be hard to pair with another block colour.

I’d then wear gold shoes and accessories and a bright, almost neon, orange bag.

Ooh I like the faux fur idea. Then you will still see your dress

I think it depends on the style/fabric of the dress TBH. A silky or floaty material then Id probably go with a bright pop of colour like orange or pink and metallic accesories.
If it was more of a velvet or heavy fabric then Id go more muted with brown, burgundy, navy and tan shoes and bag.

Seas164 · 23/07/2024 12:22

I'd go navy or camel if you want something classic, or hot pink if you don't.

Not red unless you want to look like Mrs Claus, not tartan unless you're Scottish.

Not a real green dress? That's cruel.

Red, white, gold, bronze, silver.

I'm guessing she won't have to eat to Kraft dinners.

I love this! If they have my size come pay day I'll be buying a coat I don't need.

TheGirlattheBack · 23/07/2024 15:19

Love the blue coat, depends on the shade of Green whether that will work.

Red and green will always look Christmassy so not sure about the burgundy coat.

This is the dress. I have a short faux fur jacket but it's beige/brown and isn't quite right. I absolutely love that green one posted above. Kind of thinking I might get more wear out of a coat though?

I really don't know what colour shoes to wear with it.

That’s a nice dress. Don't drown it in the blue coat. You’ll use the green faux fur all over Christmas! Whack it on over jeans and a white t-shirt = instant quick outfit.

Gold heels.

TizerorFizz · 23/07/2024 17:28

The dress looks slightly more teal. I’d just look at a paler coordinating shade. I’m not sure a huge brightly contrasting coat is right, it’s a bit “look at me.”. At a wedding you want some lovely accessories but a classy outfit. If you look at people who look really smart at the moment, they aren’t really doing brights. More shades of one colour.

Damn just looked again and released it's a petit clothing brand and I most definitely am not. Oh well I didn't need a new coat. 🥹

Wahine24 · 23/07/2024 18:21

@Runningupthecurtains I'm sure that coat is similar to a ted baker style ,so that might work for you ?

Runningupthecurtains · 23/07/2024 18:42

Thanks but it was partly the colour I loved - camel does nothing for me.

Wahine24 · 23/07/2024 18:48

@Runningupthecurtains it was so you could see how similar they are, see the name and look around if you wanted ( I wouldn't recommend a camel coat to anyone , I'm not a fan as I said earlier) because you realised the other wouldn't work for you , I was trying to be helpful

CharlotteStreetW1 · 23/07/2024 18:50

Whispers... mustard coat?

I know you were and again thank you. There are a couple of lovely colours in the similar but shorter Ted Baker but alas not in my size. I was tempted by the Pixiegirl one because it is very much my colour, as is the teal Ted Baker but it obviously not meant to be. I don't need another 'smart' coat so it's probably for the best anyway.

Gold with green!
