Trainers and fishnets.

PragmaticDramatic · 22/07/2024 21:00

Ballet flats and bare legs

I don't drive. I walk and use public transport so ballet flats are out.

Why can't u wear flats if u walk? It's not like ur walking barefoot?!

Agreed. The trainers look terrible.

The sole is often too thin for the roads I walk and for the length I walk too. I need shoes with a better sole.

Trainers or flat ankle boots with pointy toes

CryptoFascist · 22/07/2024 21:35

white trainers, cropped denim jacket. I am not a style icon, but that is what I'd wear to dress down almost any dress.

My foot is so broad, I can't wear pointy toes.

I like those trainers then and think the suggestion of fishnet tights a good one

BlueBlackYellow · 22/07/2024 22:05

I will never be brave enough for fishnets. Sorry. Especially for day time wear. Thank you for the suggestions though. I never wore fishnets before. If I wear them now I might be laughed out of town.

Would nude tights work for me?

Or how about black leggings? Or cropped leggings.

PrincessofWells · 22/07/2024 22:08

I love those shoes/trainers.

SunshineonLeaves · 22/07/2024 22:20

It sounds like you’re pretty sure what you don’t want so it doesn’t leave many options, not sure what you want people to say - if you like trainers and they’re practical go for it 🤷🏻‍♀️

ErrolTheDragon · 22/07/2024 22:27

Canvas low tops? (I think that's what my mid-20s DD would wear)

henlake7 · 22/07/2024 23:35

Probably three quarter leggings/footless tights, black rocket dog jazzin tennis shoes then stick with the red belt and red bag to accessorize.

Some terrible advice on this thread!

@BlueBlackYellow get yourself some black loafers with a chunky sole. (And honestly, don’t wear leggings with your dress …) Bare legs, or short black socks are fine in summer, and you could switch to black opaques once the temperature drops. This is the sort of thing I mean, and you can get them at any price point with a rounded, square or pointy toe:

BTW - if you walk everywhere it would be sensible to keep a pair of walking shoes or trainers specifically for your journey - and then change into your lunch footwear once you arrive at your destination. It makes no sense to wear out good or dressy shoes just stomping along the street. And it means you can be more flexible in your choice of ‘event’ shoes. (Has no one suggested this to you before?)

henlake7 · 23/07/2024 12:44

Sounds like a PITA to be carrying extra footwear with you everywhere...not to mention a pain in the feet to wear chunky loafers when you are walking alot!
I mean maybe the OP is a 'lady who lunches' but maybe they need something more practical.
I wear dresses but need shoes I can walk everywhere in, including dog walking.
Personally I like hi tops with crew socks, very easy on your feet and it works with most kinds of dresses.

I wear dresses all the time. I wear flat pumps unless it's too cold when I wear flat boots. There's no reason why flat pumps can't have proper soles. I walk everywhere.

I don't particularly like loafers but there's no reason to assume they're any more difficult to walk in that any other shoe.

Obviously if you're going hill walking or similar you need appropriate footwear but for walking in a town any normal shoe will do.

This. I live in dresses and flats. No need to carry spare shoes.

Edited

I would assume no one has suggested this before because it’s not a great idea. Who wants to have to lug a spare pair of shoes around with them!

BlueBlackYellow · 23/07/2024 17:47

Would I be able to wear this shoe and tights

I prefer men's shoes because they fit my feet better.

Would that go well with the dress?
