I need inspiration! What gift would you like for £100-&150?

Hi everyone - my close friend turns 60 in a few weeks & I haven't got a clue what to buy her. Budget is £100-£150.

She's very glam & trendy. Into jewellery clothes, bags, beauty etc. Not perfume tho as she has gallons of it. Would prefer not a voucher as I want something she can unwrap on the day.

I need something I can get online as I don't live in the uk. Am hopelessly out of touch so would really appreciate some inspiration from you stylish, trendy mumsnetters! Thank you!

@BeaRF75 No need to be rude 'FFS', I'm much younger than 60 and like a good scented candle so it wasn't a crappy ageist suggestion as I feel you're implying. Whereas I can't imagine anything I'd like less than a membership or stationery, 'FFS'. Each to their own, which is why it's so hard to buy expensive gifts for others.

Also OP has just said she bought a candle for her friend last year, so... Dick comment.

How about something from Aspinal?

Hmm … Although this is S&B, as my post above indicates, I wouldn’t really welcome style or beauty gifts from friends. At 60+ I very much prefer to choose that sort of thing for myself.

Books, wine, an evening drinking cocktails are my idea of worthwhile gifts …

Theatre tokens were my first thought (but that’s not ‘Style and Beauty

Cashmere jumper?

Celtic and co - I’d love something from here, but don’t know if it’s her taste.

I have bought these for glam good mates (loads of big bdays in the last few years):
A Mason Pearson hairbrush
A voucher for a luxurious massage
A Tom Ford Candle
A large body lotion and shower gel of the perfume they like
An Alexander McQueen Skull Scarf
A vintage Chanel wallet
Some liberty pjs
A vintage Liberty Umbrella
If only if nightwear

I hope some of these ideas could work

EllenLRipley · 21/07/2024 13:55

should say vintage GUCCI Umbrella :)

Floisme · 21/07/2024 16:04

I didn't suggest vouchers as you'd specified no in your op but, since they've come up anyway, when you already have some great clothes then what's sometimes lacking is an opportunity to show them off, so vouchers for e.g. a swanky restaurant, afternoon tea, theatre etc might work. That's what I'll request when my 70th comes along if I'm given half a chance.

Zephyry · 21/07/2024 16:17

I think you need to avoid anything too personal unless you are absolutely sure she likes that look, or you know her size. So if you want to go beauty id get something that isn't too personal, like an amazing body scrub from space nk, rather than a lipstick that might be the wrong colour for her. Likewise silk pillowcases aren't too personal but feel luxury. If it were colder I'd say cashmere gloves or wrist warmers, might still be a shout ready for autumn. Does she travel? A nice passport holder? What is her favourite booze?
I would probably hedge bets a bit and get three things, a mixture of the above. You can't go wrong with fortnum champagne if she's a fan, plus body scrub and silk pillowcases/wrist warmers?

dbeuowlxb173939 · 21/07/2024 16:19

I wouldn't want anything. I would much rather be treated to a spa day/afternoon tea/dinner/theatre tickets etc. I don't like being bought stuff just for the sake of it and it's so hard to get right- like I've been bought lovely scarves but the colour doesn't suit me or I've been bought lovely earrings but the person forgot I'm allergic to most metals, or if you get a dressing gown they could already have one they like so it's just a waste.
Sorry if i sound miserable but I just prefer to buy stuff I need myself and would rather just spend time with my loved ones instead of them spending money on presents.

Does she like gardening? A David austen shrub rose is pretty

Doesn’t cost £150 though!

Luhou · 21/07/2024 17:14

I would love one of these but can't bring myself to splurge on one.

Definitely the one hundred stars dressing gown

personally, I want another longchamp bag

RosesAndHellebores · 21/07/2024 17:30

I'd be very happy with a Smythson make-up bag. I'm 64 and have everything. I'd like that but wouldn't buy it for myself. Ditto a very nice ballpoint pen. Other things I'd like would be L'Occitane: soap, shower gel, handcream. Paxton and Whitfield subscription.

MissNowt · 21/07/2024 19:24

Wow thank you everyone for the fantastic suggestions! Have ordered a Coach bag (reduced) for my pal which I know she'll love and a one hundred stars dressing gown for me!

Good choices OP!

can someone explain the 100 stars size thing for me. I am a size 8. How can the same item fit me and a person who is a size 18? I can kind of get it with the robes, although it would be so long on me compared to someone who is 5ft 10 for example but the trousers? They can’t possibly work for all sizes as they’d be either too short or too long on most people? The clothing looks lovely but I can’t see how it works.

Ophy83 · 21/07/2024 21:22

If she likes Chanel, perhaps a refillable lipstick https://www.chanel.com/gb/makeup/p/171538/31-le-rouge-satin-lipstick/

Though Guerlain does one that is much cheaper and has a mirror which I think looks fancier!

I'm a size 8 - 10 and have a One Hundred Stars dressing gown. It drapes beautifully, and the material is very fine so it ties without any bulk around my waist. Makes me feel like the female lead in an Agatha Christie film!

Maybe I will add one to my birthday wish list! Thank you.
