Looking for elegant dress for Board meeting

Puppalicious · 16/07/2024 16:31

I want to look classy and elegant at an upcoming Board meeting, and I think I fancy a dress. Probably in navy or black - I do have a penchant for bright colours but now I want to look like a grown up. I do have wide leg back and narrow leg navy Joseph trousers, which I could pair with a nice blouse (I have bright green and white but wore the white one recently and green might be too bright) so will accept suggestions there too. But for some reason fancying a dress. I have big boobs so v necks suit but not sure in fashion and cleavage can be an issue! So classy, elegant, maybe a bit quirky/with a twist. Budget up to about £500. Hit me with your suggestions - thank you!

That’s meant to say wide leg black rather than back…

I think the days of dressing up for work are over? I can't get excited about work clothes and dont distinguish from non-work clothes anymore, and I'm quite senior. I think I'm on the wrong thread!

RookieMa · 16/07/2024 16:43

L K Bennett dresses hit the brief

Look on Selfridges and Harvey Nicks websites

And Net a Porter (a previous boss of mine bought all her dresses on here )

RookieMa · 16/07/2024 16:45

The days of dressing up for work have never gone away

That's an odd statement to make

The days of having to dress up might have gone away in that you can wear what you want within reason

You clearly haven't adopted the pyjama-adjacent style of non-work dressing I see every day.

Or any other Fold dresses.
I used to wear them for the Board Meetings before Covid (changed jobs since and don't need to anymore)

RookieMa · 16/07/2024 16:49

Also try Boden

They cut well for the well endowed female

Of course every style is different so not all styles will accommodate

TheUndoing · 16/07/2024 16:50

Seconding the fold. Hobbs also good if you want to spend a bit less.

Mildrewish · 16/07/2024 16:51

All our board members (and most boards I've ever seen) wear suits and other boring/safe office gear. Is it a board that's particularly fashionable? Like for a gallery or similar? Otherwise I probably wouldn't bother putting much thought into your outfit if you don't dress up normally

I still dress up for work in that I don’t generally get to dress up at home (small kids), I have a couple of suits, but other than that I have a few nice tops and dresses I can wear when I go out too (from kooples, zadig & Voltaire, rixo, that kind of thing). But I have a senior job and want to look pretty conservative in this meeting…maybe that’s not a thing at all any more!

Also re dressing up for the meeting - it gives me confidence. And I want confidence!

The Fold . Sale now on . I have 2 dresses ( one navy , the other a pale grey ) and they always make me feel on good form and confident.

What a silly answer. It depends on the industry, I’m corporate, no way I can front up to a management meeting in a pair of leggings and trainers.

op, way under budget but I have this, v comfy as it has Stretch, so also flattering. And I am also large boobed and find a decent minimiser bra and a higher neck is much more flattering and modern than a v neck, which is quite dated at the moment.

you didn’t say size or height though.

The Fold looks interesting but I’m nowhere near London and wouldn’t be able to try them on which would be a risk when they’re so expensive.

oh wow @Wakemeup17 Fold has some lovely stuff (but scary price point for me). thanks for the link!

AFmammaG · 16/07/2024 17:01

What about something like this? My boss wears this style and it looks v professional and flattering.

I ordered them from outside UK (but before Brexit), I put them on credit card and then sent back what I didn't need. Refunds are very straightforward and quick.

SaltyGod · 16/07/2024 17:05

The Fold has some lovely things.

Another option might be Reiss. Our CEO is often in Reiss and it always looks professional but interesting. Subtle details, luxurious fabrics that drape nicely, well cut.

Just my experience :-)
I'm in a serious (medical) industry, and CEO of collaborating company came to board meeting with his dog on his lap, so I think anything goes nowadays!

Illpickthatup · 16/07/2024 18:45

The pretty dress company has some lovely dresses that would be suitable. They're great quality dresses.
