Please help. What tops with these (strangely) coloured trousers?

Is this impossible? What colours (other than white) would go with these trousers? Any specific tops you could link to that would go well?

I'm scared of looking like I've fallen of the back of the circus wagon.

I don't want black because I think there is a lot in that advice that if you put black with a bright colour it makes you look like you work in a theme park/Butlins red coat. and these are well on the way to clown costume.

Asking because I saw that Alex Jones had worn them with a lilac top and I'd never have thought of putting that with it. I think the lilac looks better than white because the white puts the whole focus on the trousers where as the lilac is more balanced. Looking for other suggestions like that but totally struggling!

Are you any good at sewing?

If be really tempted to find a cream top I liked and then find a fabric in that persimmon shape, cut out a large circle (say 30cm) and appliqué it on, off-centre...

Gonna stop spamming you now! 😁

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 13/07/2024 15:18

*persimmon shade- thanks autocorrect...

Cheeesus · 13/07/2024 15:21

I wonder about a grass green.

soberfabulous · 13/07/2024 15:48

Nothing to say other than I LOVE these trousers! (I'd wear a white top)

Catlord · 13/07/2024 15:58

I think a blue. Depends on your colouring but my first thought was aqua through to powder blue, or a navy/ dusky blue for a neutral. Natural fibre, not too new or shiny looking

BitchyHen · 13/07/2024 16:08

What about a graphic tee with red or yellow in the print?

Please help. What tops with these (strangely) coloured trousers?
Mary46 · 13/07/2024 16:16

They are lovely. I think navy or beige very nice.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 13/07/2024 16:44

ClownsFear · 13/07/2024 13:39

@Metempsychosis navy is interesting idea.

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle thanks for your suggestions. i think that was the point about the lilac top is that it detracts from the @@ -ness of the the trousers. I thought it was more balancing myself

the jacket you suggested is interesting. I wouldn't be for the bare skin but the idea of cream with a bit of red on it is a good one.

PS: that's a hard no to the co-ordinating top! I'm aiming for less clown effect not more!!

You'd have to put a plain white cami or t- shirt under the jacket.

ClownsFear · 13/07/2024 18:09

@MrsGhastlyCrumb the next top is great and probably a good red match but I won't shop from next on principle. terrrible customer service experiences!

i'm dire at sewing sadly

@BitchyHen interesting idea but I fear there is so much going on with the trousers that a graphic tee as well would frighten the horses!

blue seems to be winning out here...

Thank you for reminding me about Kitri OP. It's an interesting brand but had gone off my radar.

I love the colour Alex is wearing With them if it was me though I'd probably go for a yellow t shirt I'm quite a "safe" dresser.

If you was a safe dresser you would not be wearing those trousers lol

Check out novasistas on instagram - loads of outfits with these trousers if you’re a fan of bold colours!

thanks I just had a look but found only two outfits one with a pink kawaii/hawaiian style shirt and one with a green t-shirt. I thought they both looked terrible to be honest. I was after a more sleek stylish look - the Alex Jones type rather than make it more clashing and brighter.

Those sistas are a bit like Prue Leith on steriods!

Seeing quite a lot of overlarge white buttoned through shirts, with the tails knotted together around - might be worth trying?!

Clearly I lack excitement in my life.., 😬

Horsedatives · 14/07/2024 00:23

Denim blue (not necessarily demin fabric) would tone down.

Also peach looks surprisingly good or the burgundy

Garlickest · 14/07/2024 04:08

I like that Kettlewell colour thingy! You were only looking at winter options, OP, there are four times as many ...

I can't stay up playing with it any longer, so here's an unadventurous duo from Kettlewell.

If it were me, though, I'd go for the Kitri jacket with a sandy shade vest underneath.

Wow, those trousers are fantastic & I love them with the lilac. I think I would go for a navy or baby pink. If you are brave enough to wear them, you could get away with any colour.

Honestly if you want a sleek stylish look, those trousers probably aren't for you.

V hard to wear.

Personally I'd pair them with a light - mid cobalt blue top for a winter.

Staringatthewalljustmeagain · 14/07/2024 07:43

I’d wear a cropped boxy tank in black or white. I’d let the trousers do the talking.

PadstowGirl · 14/07/2024 09:04

Dark khaki
Black
Navy.

I don't think white looks great with them to be honest, they'd look better with a darker colour.

You (general you) can have be stylish with these trousers but they're not meant to be sleek.

I like the tops they've been paired with on the Kitri website, including the 1 the OP thought was too much (it isn't). They're not an outfit which should be toned down

I don't know who Alex Jones is but she's managed to make the trousers not stylish by adding that non- descript top, in an attempt, presumably to tone them down, and she's not sleek.

Cantalever · 14/07/2024 14:26

White, cream or ecru shades, but I would put on a wideish belt in a darker colour to draw the eye and pull it all together.

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/07/2024 15:41

I'd wear them with navy or bottle green. I mean I wouldn't as I am too pear shaped for such extravagant pantaloons, I would look like a fat Coco the Clown.
