Just that really. I am off to Canada on holiday and doing lots of outdoorsy stuff. Thanks for any help!

I just got a nice one from Uniqlo

I have the Sweaty Betty Motion parka too; it is waterproof and reasonably stylish. I've been complimented on it several times.

RainSister does really stylish raincoats, and according to the reviews some of them are completely waterproof. Gudrunsjoden also often have a waterproof raincoat or two in their collection, sometimes in lovely prints.

Vicliz24 · 03/07/2024 17:54

Protected Species all the way . Stylish and really comfy to wear . No rustling noise when you move either .

I got one of their coats in TK Maxx a few years ago- longer than this one and patterned, but basically this design
it is incredibly waterproof- more so than my outdoor gear really - although I guess I only wear it for an hour or so at a time but it is very well designed, things like elasticated inner cuffs and reflective strip on the hood for dark winter walks to work

These are utterly gorgeous.

On a more practical level, Didriksons are extremely waterproof but more functional looking. I've got one for dog walking!

I got a Protected Species after seeing them recommended on here. I bought it on Vinted so it wasn’t especially expensive. They look good whether it is break duty at school, sightseeing or out walking my dog.

Lelivre · 03/07/2024 19:14

Buy your coat there? Canadians know how to produce superb performance coats.

These are perfect! thanks so much, I'd never heard of them :)

Read Stutterheim Trust Pilot reviews, they’re awful.

MidnightPatrol · 03/07/2024 14:48

I wouldn’t want to climb a mountain in it, as it is t very breathable.

good for standing around in pouring rain though.

Breathability is key for me.

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 03/07/2024 19:31

I've got a Rains puffer coat - toasty warm, completely waterproof and not sweaty. It's marvellous.

Lixon · 03/07/2024 19:41

My protected species coats are much better than my stutterheim on every measure! Apart from possibly pure design/aesthetics. Comfort, performance, wearability protected species is well ahead.

Rains - so stylish and waterproof. Good for in the city as stylish too. Doesn't have the same fit as a typical waterproof so not ideal for hiking, but the length is perfect for a wet day out and about.

Geiyotue · 03/07/2024 20:09

I looked for years, because I also wanted something stylish with a hood. I eventually found this one which I absolutely love

Ygfrhj · 03/07/2024 20:16

I have a Rains coat for the city but I would feel ridiculous wearing anything like that in a national park in Canada.

For outdoors I buy from Arcteryx, Patagonia or REI.

I have something like this in a navy/black animal print. It's so well cut it looks amazing over jumpsuits, dresses or jeans as well as being completely waterproof. I wore it yesterday when it tipped down after my blow-dry and it survived pretty well.

I bought mine in the JL Oxford St sale for about £70 and didn't realise what a total bargain it was at the time. I'd like to get another one form my DD but the company doesn't deliver to the UK atm. Luckily we will be on holiday in Ireland later this month so will get it delivered there. That's her birthday sorted.

I've just ordered a nice one from Tog24. Can't remember the name of it but it's longish (past bum) and comes in a range of colours.

I bought a jacket from Joules a few years ago, it said waterproof but I didn't expect it to be. It genuinely is waterproof, I still have it now (went to New York in 2019 with it, so it's old) and it's still waterproof. Not sure if they still make it or similar, but I would definitely recommend if they have something you like.

My water (and wind proof!) coat is from Joules. I'd wanted one for ages and am so happy with it. I got it for cheap from eBay brand new with a factory fault that I fixed in five minutes on my sewing machine 😬

echt · 03/07/2024 23:34

Another vote for Protected Species.

EllenLRipley · 03/07/2024 13:46

Yes, the prices are crazy to me when I won't wear it again but I think I might need to suck it up

OP

Why don't you have a search on vinted? It is great. I buy n sell stuff on there

Mumofoneandone · 04/07/2024 07:37

I'm with you on waterproofs needed but really like something stylish. Have a pacmac for emergencies, seasalt raincoat, trenchcoat, craghoppers, mountain warehouse and a drizabone. (All varying thicknesses and lengths for different occasions!)

Blueink · 04/07/2024 08:31

Helly Hansen last forever; different colours

Often cheaper to buy once you get to Canada as a PP suggested. My stuff is still going 20+ years later and been adopted by stylish DC!

Sweaty Betty jacket didn’t last long. Probably a couple of years at most.

I don't own one of these but I saw the website the other day and thought the coats were lovely https://rainsisters.com/en-gb/collections/functional-design-coats-for-women

Sorry but I think you’d look ridiculous bear watching in a national park in Canada wearing one of these.
