Will 100mls of shampoo last me for 2vweeks?

We're going away for 2 weeks with carry on luggage only. Normally I'd pack toiletries in hold luggage.

I appreciate that Boots in airports sell shampoo and conditioner but at grossly inflated prices. Plus we can't bring it back. I'm just trying to work out if I can get away with 100 mls of shampoo for 2 weeks. I'll have 200mls of conditioner as DH doesn't use it so can take 100mls for me.

I usually wash my (shoulder length, fine) hair every other day. Will 100mls last me or do I just sick it up and pay airport prices? I'm going to have to buy the suncream airline as I burn really easily.

Just decant the amount you would need from your current bottles into travel bottles? No wasting.

Peonies12 · 02/07/2024 20:39

Get a shampoo bar or buy there, they do have shops in other countries

BoobyDazzler · 02/07/2024 20:39

I always buy toiletries abroad. It’s part of the fun, imo.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 02/07/2024 20:42

Just buy it when you get there, I never take toiletries with me regardless of where I'm going

Twotimesrhymes · 02/07/2024 20:43

Yes to the shampoo bar (I get them in Poundland so I don’t have to worry if I want to leave them there)

Crocsareanoforme · 02/07/2024 20:47

I toon with me and also bought when we were on holiday (away for 9 days) and needed shampoo, conditioner and shower gel but we were somewhere hot and washed my long hair every day.

Cyclingmummy1 · 02/07/2024 20:49

Gosh, yes, easily. How much shampoo do people use?

Fuzziduck · 02/07/2024 20:50

You could click and collect at Boots airside, would be the same price.

hoggyhedge · 02/07/2024 20:52

No. Buy it out there though

DoublePeonies · 02/07/2024 21:03

Yes!
A 400ml bottle lasts me months - and I would use even less conditioner.
But if you are concerned, just take 2 bottles.

I'd use way more than 100ml of suncream tho. Buy that airside.

ScamanthaBrick · 02/07/2024 21:36

I wash my medium length hair every 3 days and a 250ml bottle lasts me 2 months at least Confused but as this thread has proved there are many alternatives to being restricted to 1 x 100ml bottle, so I think you’ll be fine…

Cheesecakelunch · 02/07/2024 21:39

Definitely shampoo bars. The Ethique ones are nice and foamy.

Sorry, I misread 'Normally' as Normandy 😂 what a noob!

I'm travelling France - UK next month, going to the pound shop when I get there for shampoo, conditioner and deodorant!

I was impressed thinking you'd done some stalking on other OPs threads 🤣

That's not sad, I love visiting supermarkets in foreign countries too. Also agree that, if you're only taking hand luggage, it's easier to buy stuff when you get to the destination.

It's not sad. You always find something interesting or even ," what the hell is that"

Me too - other than contact lens solution (because I'm almost the last person in the world who still wears gas permeable lenses and it once took over an hour to track down a supply in Amsterdam and it wasn't much easier in Helsinki)

In carry on luggage haven't most airports gone back to 100mls? With regards your 200mls conditioner I mean.
I'd just get some in Boots airside, stick in your pockets and save valuable room in carry on bags.

Yes, so I will take 100mls and DH will take 100mls but won't use his share, I will

The whole can't bring it back thing is a little stingy to be honest. With the price of getting away considered, it likely isnt worth worrying about too much.

I haven't got a problem buying stuff abroad - like PP said, I quite like a foreign supermarket! But DH hates waste.

You aren't restricted to how many 100ml bottles of a product you take as long as everything fits into the size bag they give you. It could be all 100ml bottles of shampoo. (Also don't understand why your are using your husband's "allowance" just decant what you both need for 2 weeks and split it between hand luggage)

You are making this far more complicated than it needs to be

Helenloveslee4eva · 03/07/2024 10:22

Buy at your destination !

MotherWol · 03/07/2024 10:30

Unless you're going somewhere really remote, buy it at your destination. You could always take some empty 100ml bottles to decant the remainder into and bring back if leaving a half used bottle of shampoo behind is an issue for you.

NightPuffins · 03/07/2024 10:36

You can have up to 1000ml of liquid in no more than 100ml parts, so you and DH can both take 10 liquids.
100ml shampoo lasts me about a week on holiday.

Westfacing · 03/07/2024 10:42

For shampoo bars, I recommend Faith in Nature. Lasts for months and washes & lathers well.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 03/07/2024 10:43

I’d not use that at home but would need more than that on holiday showering every day with swimming and beach etc. I’ve done click and collect at Boots in an airport before, and also gone to a supermarket for other holidays. That or a shampoo bar if your hair responds well!

TakeOnFlea · 03/07/2024 11:54

"Yes, so I will take 100mls and DH will take 100mls but won't use his share, I will"

🤣 you know you could take 10 x 100ml of shampoo if you wanted? You don't just have one each. Seriously. It's less than £1 at the airport for boots own shampoo anyway.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/07/2024 12:47

@justhereforthechristmasthreads you're right, I'm definitely overthinkung this!
