If you have long hair...

How do you wear it at bedtime?

My hair has finally reached the length where I can tie it back. However I need to come up with a solution for how to wear it at bedtime.
I have tried wearing it loose but I have woken up feeling strangled by my own hair. I also have the joy that is night sweats (thanks menopause!) and have woken up a sodden mess of knotted locks.

Surprised there's only one pp using a silk bonnet. It's been an absolute game-changer for me. I have finally been able to grow my hair long and it's stayed thick right to the ends. Even when it's previously been short, I've always woken with a matted, knotty mess at the back of my head

You all can't wriggle as much as me! Mine is below bra band and I wear it loose, can't imagine sleeping with it any other way as it reminds me of annoying rags in my hair in the 80s!

I’ve always had long hair and I wear it down.
I just sort of flip it up away from my neck on the pillow. I’ve tried plaits and a bun before
( to get beach waves) but found it so uncomfortable, I took it out halfway through the night. Also, I’m a bit weird and like to cover my ears with my hair a bit when I’m sleeping incase a spider crawls in.

We're a curly family and use bonnets, too! Goes tangled and frizzy, and goes in weird shapes without lol

Tbh, everyone could benefit from it, even just to keep your pillows clean and oil-free.

Always a low pony tail but I might try this bun business to see if I can generate curls or a wave!

GLC789 · 25/06/2024 22:56

Low loose bun. Satin scrunchies only as they don't pull on hair when I pull it out in the morning xx

Twinkletwinklelil · 25/06/2024 22:57

Plait, folded pony or bun on top of my head

i used to sleep with it out to avoid kinks but no chance anymore 🤣

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 25/06/2024 22:59

Top knot/bun with a satin scrunchie. It's absolutely wild when I take it out in the morning but settles down into a nice wave pattern (usually).

rosyvalentine · 25/06/2024 23:08

Low ponytail with a silk scrunchie which helps to protect the hair. Also a silk pillowcase. When I use a regular cotton one. My hair feels much drier and more tangled the next morning.

Heronatemygoldfish · 25/06/2024 23:24

Plait. Except when I forget to wash it early enough like tonight as it was too hot and now have to go to sleep with it loose and damp. I hate sleeping with wet hair. It's length has been somewhere between my thigh tops and my shoulder blades my entire life. Waist length at the moment.

Justleaveitblankthen · 25/06/2024 23:39

High ballerina style top not.
Has to encompass my fringe that I scrape in there.
Wish it really was long though. I'm totally obsessed as my own won't grow past my shoulders 😔

Floralnomad · 25/06/2024 23:40

Loose bun , I tried a silk hat but it drove me mad.

Luckingfovely · 25/06/2024 23:42

Could some of you amazing experts share exactly, in minute detail, how you put long hair up so it looks nice in curls in the morning, please?

*I suspect nothing will help my hair which frizzes at the mention of heat or damp, and combined with terrible night sweats, makes me wake up every morning looking beyond insane.

But just in case there's a magic trick!

pandasorous · 25/06/2024 23:55

plaits are the best and then wrapped into a silk bonnet. I don't get on very well with bonnets, so its just a plait for me. apparently silk pillow cases also make a difference

Would you not plait it damp?

sashh · 26/06/2024 06:07

I discovered plastic spiral hair ties. I put my hair in a knot and then wrap the spiral around it quite tight.

They look like they would damage your hair but they don't and they stay put.

Heronatemygoldfish · 26/06/2024 08:09

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel sensory thing! That and if damp, it sticks to everything when plaiting.

In this weather it's getting plaited then clipped up!

No33 · 26/06/2024 08:11

I'm also a messy top bun, however I sadly do not get lovely waves 😭

ZZGirl · 26/06/2024 08:34

I don't do anything with it. If it's wet I'll plait it

GrouchyKiwi · 26/06/2024 08:42

Plait. Otherwise it smothers me or gets stuck under me when I roll over etc.

MammaTo · 26/06/2024 08:51

Low pony with a nice soft scrunchy

Bloom15 · 26/06/2024 09:03

masomenos · 25/06/2024 22:33

I flip mine up the pillow when I lie down. I only ever sleep on my back or sides, so it sort of stays up at the top of the pillow while I twirl around under it. Also menopausal and my god the hot flashes. But never on my head or neck at night (just every-bloody-where else 🙄).

Same as me

space99 · 26/06/2024 11:24

I just leave it down. I think it would annoy me tied up as I'm always fidgeting and sleeping in different positions.

Maddy70 · 26/06/2024 11:25

Always just let mine loose

jay55 · 26/06/2024 15:10

Bun with a scrunchie.
