It's a wedding in south of France in Aug so will be hot. Bride said her teens are wearing trousers and shirts with trainers. Is this too casual

Yes that's too casual for a wedding guest dress. Is it a French wedding with French guests or are the couple Brits marrying abroad? French wedding guests are quite stylish and that dress would look out of place.

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/06/2024 23:10

Yes, far too casual. Fine for a trip to the supermarche but not for a French wedding.

spanieleyes22 · 22/06/2024 23:13

Ok! Bride French groom American. Am just worried about the heat. I have to have sleeves. This is the other dress I have but my dd says it's too dressy

Dress 2 is better. And not too dressy at all.

No, that's perfect!

I don't think it's "evening" at all.

Dinosaumug · 22/06/2024 23:17

Love dress 2! Where is it from please?

spanieleyes22 · 22/06/2024 23:18

Ok great I've been looking for another dress but if you all think that one is ok I'll stick with it. I like it!

Dress 2 is lovely.

spanieleyes22 · 22/06/2024 23:18

It's monsoon . The only thing is it has a triangle cut out on back and dd thinks it shows my back fat

What material and is the dress midi/maxi length? I would wear it in a raw or heavy silk fabric, accessorised with silver heeled slingbacks, pearl earrings, loads of bracelets (no necklace).

If it's a thin cotton fabric, then it's not wedding suitable.

edited to say post referred to dress 1.
I would go with dress 2, which is beautiful.

Ignore dd. Also, if there is any, you can't see it, so you don't know.

Mmhmmn · 22/06/2024 23:20

Definitely dress 2. It’s lovely and not too dressy. There’s no such thing as too dressy for a wedding.

sprigatito · 22/06/2024 23:22

DD needs to button it Grin

That second dress is beautiful and perfect for the occasion.

spanieleyes22 · 22/06/2024 23:26

Thanks all I feel reassured now I did love the dress when I got it but got dd opinion when she came back from uni and was a bit disappointed she didn't love it too!!

Surely, it dependents on the type of wedding? Just because it’s in France doesn’t mean it’s fancy. Is it in a château or local maire and an after party in their garden? Is the wife from an extremely wealthy Catholic family or a primary school teacher from a working class background?
I’ve been to weddings where the second dress would be too casual and others where it would be way fancier than what the bride was wearing.

spanieleyes22 · 23/06/2024 00:49

It's in a chateau. I'm a bit stumped how dressy it will be. Bride was keen to stress that the boy teens are wearing trainers and no jackets. I just hope I won't be overdressed

fedupwithbeingcold · 23/06/2024 01:06

Boys teens might be a bit more casual than the average female guest. I don't think you'll be overdressed at all

JC03745 · 23/06/2024 01:22

Dress 1 is a summer dress and I personally wouldn't think suitable for a wedding anywhere other than barefoot on the beach! Dress 2 might be passable, but looks very short IMO. Is the wedding in a church then a meal in the chateau? Unless you are very short, I'd wear something longer that covered the knees. I have no idea why your daughter said its too evening? Its a wedding! Other than black tie, what other event is more formal?

SleepPrettyDarling · 23/06/2024 01:54

I’m sorry to respectfully disagree and say that neither dress IMHO looks great. Teen boys in pressed shirts, chinos/shorts, and trainers sound lovely and appropriate. But I’d expect the adults to be more dressy, and both dresses you’ve shown look a bit inelegant for a wedding. Have you anything with a bit more structure/shape, or draped? What footwear would you wear?
