Summer work party outfit

Please help

I need an outfit for husbands work summer party. It’s on Fri eve, so lots will be coming straight from office, fairly conservative industry in the city, but they’ve hired a trendy venue for the event.

I was thinking of a floaty dress and heels, but apparently no one wears heels anymore?! I don’t want to be overly dressed up in an evening summer dress when everyone else is more casual.

No budget as such but don’t want to spend a fortune, and would be nice if I could wear it again a few times this summer.

Have no idea about shoes though, I would normally wear flip flops with a summer dress!

I have the long-sleeved version of this. I love it but it's very low cut, much lower than it appears in the pictures. I have to wear a vest underneath.

If your DH’s colleagues are on the stuffy side, they’re probably not going to appreciate fashion trends. So if you rock up in a Laura Ingalls prairie dress they’ll see a nightie! Also with the shortie beach styles. And I know you discounted it already, but that shift with those huge black boots is awful to me.

I’d go for summery, feminine and above all something you feel great in that doesn’t challenge your comfort zone too much.

I probably would get infinitely more wear from a long denim skirt, just assumed that would be too casual?

I’ve always found trouser shopping difficult, as I have a boyish figure, so whatever fits on tummy usually has a ridiculous amount of excess fabric at hips. Only low rise styles used to suit me, tho haven’t worn them since kids, as not practical and too revealing when needing to bend over.

Will have a look at some co-ord options and try some too!

I don't know about other people, but I would boil in knee high boots in summer.

Totally agree with pp about no denim unless fashion/media company. You did say it's a stuffy industry so go for something simple & stylish.

I work in the City, in a stuffy industry and have just had my summer party. So hopefully this will be helpful.

Most popular outfits seemed to be shimmery bias cut skirts and either a t-shirt, cami or blouse, linen suits in neutrals but one girl had a powder pink suit and I really coveted it, and some floral nobody's child style dresses. Shoes were were either trainers or sandals.

The Rixo dress would be perfect and I'd get some metallic ballet flats to wear with it or a mule with a small heel if I wanted a bit of extra height.

Another option that I find really flattering and good for all occasions is a floaty skirt or wide leg trousers with waistcoat - any shoes will go really too!
